Xbox Durango Production Diagrams Supposedly Leak Online

Posted on January 22, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The rumored Xbox Durangomay have gotten its innards spilled with the supposed leak of an internal planning diagram of the console’s architecture. Not only does the document give us a look under the hood of Microsoft’s next generation console, revealing several secrets, but this latest leak jives with the rumor that Redmond has begun test fabrication of the system’s innards.

Contained within the next Xbox will be a quadcore processor  based on AMD’s 1.6GHZ APU technology, 8GBs of DDR3 ram, an 800 MHZ graphics processor, support for N Networking, a Blu Ray Drive (although it is unknown if it will play movies) and  an HDMI 1.4 port capable of outputting a maximum of 4K resolution.

That sure is a lot of technical jargon but it suggests that the next Xbox will be future proofed in order to provide developers with ample room to create games before hitting technological ceilings. For reference the Xbox 360 only has 512MB of ram and that console has produced some of the best looking games of the last year.  The 360 only started to hit technical limitations after five years or so, the Durango’s specs could rival current mid-range gaming desktops!

New Fire Emblem Awakening Trailer

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nintendo released a new commercial for their upcoming trip game Fire Emblem Awakening today. The trailer sheds some light on the game including the fact that certain choices in the game will impact your outcome later.

“Every decision counts,” the trailer warns. “This is life; this is death.”

Seems like a pretty ominous especially when you have a reset button. But the implications are obvious and rather exciting. It’s nice to have consequences and differing outcomes based on your choices rather than one vanilla story and end result. Branching storylines, if this is what will be implemented, are fantastic.Read More

Kojima: Metal Gear Rising Originally Starred Grey Fox

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance once was set to star the original cyborg ninja, Grey Fox (Aka. Frank Jager), according to series creator Hideo Kojima. Speaking with IGN he states the original idea was shot down in favor of newly augmented bad ass Raiden after considering feedback given to him by staff at Kojima Studios. He felt that passing on some of the responsibility regarding the direction of the series to younger designers was key to its continued success.

“It was my staff in Kojima Productions that insisted on Raiden, and I respected their idea … In my personal opinion, I wanted to go for Frank Jaegar or Gray Fox. But if we had gone with that, I would have had to write the script and then be really committed to creating the game.”

Konami is set to launch Metal Gear Rising Revengeance on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Feb 19th in North America.

Sony Japan To Release Red & Blue Super Slim PS3s

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Two new colors of PlayStation 3 have been announced by Sony Japan. Called Amazon Blue & Garnet Red, these shiny reflective Super Slim PS3s are sure to be a hit with the Japanese market as well as collectors, who will likely import them for a lot more than the 24,900 ($279 USD) suggested asking price.

Garnet Red & Amazon Blue join  Classic White as new colors announced for Sony’s current generation machine. The Classic White Bundle is available for $299 in Canada with a year of PS+ bundled in the box.

Perhaps if you’re a patriotic American and you’re feeling left out because these new colors are exclusive to other countries, perhaps you could buy all three to show your support for the red, white & blue?

Starbreeze’s New IP Is ‘Storm’ – Defines Their Future

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

T0day Swedish developer Starbreeze Studios has announced that they are working on a co-op Sci-fi FPS that will define the future for them – or so their website states.  Very few details are known about Storm, except that it is a Sci-fi co-op FPS that is being developed “behind closed doors” and that it is “a long-term project.” A lone image has been posted on the company’s official website.

I’m hoping for Starbreeze to make some magic as they did all those many years ago with games like The Darknessand their take on The Chronicles Of Riddickfranchise. Those two games made me fall in love with Starbreeze. While I personally didn’t get a chance to pick up their most recent game, Syndicate, it didn’t fair to well with the critics – falling in at an average 74/100 on Metacritic.

As more details become available be sure to stay tuned here!

I hope Stormdoesn’t “make or break” the Starbreeze Studio as so many other studios have been going through financial woes. On the bright side, they do have Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons to hold them over for a while.

January 17th Nintendo Download

Posted on January 17, 2013 by Jason Nason

No love for DSiWare this week as the week’s releases are confined to the Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo released the highly anticipated Fire Emblem Awakening demo today as well as Kirby’s Star Stacker for the 3DS Virtual Console and the quirky Tokyo Crash Mobs. Otherwise there’s a couple of older 3DS retail titles added to digital download and the addition of Amazon Instant Video to the Wii U. Somewhat of a slow week on the download front this week.
