Kingdom Hearts III Off-Screen Pictures Emerge Before Embargo

Posted on May 17, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Four off-screen camera phone pictures of a development build of Kingdom Hearts III surfaced earlier this afternoon on 4Chan and were later picked up by several users on Twitter. It is public knowledge that Square Enix recently held a preview event for KHIII and the embargo supposedly ends tomorrow morning.

The user who posted these images on 4Chan noted that they were subsequently kicked out of the event and had their phone confiscated for the breach.

Spoiller Warning Obviously

Each of the 4 images given us a bit more information on KHIII’s gameplay and systems. We now know what each of the buttons on the PlayStation 4 controller do while piloting the Toy Mech. This leak confirms rumors that a Wreck It Ralph stage complete with Fix It Felix game will appear in the game … and most of all, who is this mysterious woman with blue hair?

BrokenJoysticks did not attend the KHIII press event and is not under any sort of NDA or embargo. We have, in the past, attended Square Enix preview events.

Destiny 2 Leaks Point To A Likely PC Release

Posted on March 24, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

It is no secret that Bungie & Activision are hard at work on a sequel to 2014’s Destiny, the loot-based shooter that launched 3 additional content heavy expansions that when combined with the base game have kept guardians busy for years. A set of new leaks, one comprised of promotional materials from an Italian retailer, and another from a shop listed from a German retailer point to Destiny 2 coming to Windows PC for the first time.

Originally appearing on the Italian website Leganetwork.it, the now removed poster showcases three helmet humanoid guardians – each brandishing a different type of weapon.  Featured prominently on the poster in that familiar Destiny typeface is “Destiny 2 – September 8th“, adding further credence to speculation that the Destiny sequel will launch in the early Fall.

Via PCGamer here is a look at the Italian Destiny 2 Poster:

Yesterday according to this Reddit post on r/PCGaming Destiny 2 briefly appeared on GameStop Germany’s public facing website listed for Windows PC. The listing has since been taken down and clicking the provided GameStop.de will simply redirect you to the store’s homepage. The thread is still an interesting read, not for new information on the unannounced sequel, but rather to see just how polarizing a game like Destiny can be. Some in the thread enjoyed the original despite its’ lack of story content, some see the potential of an MMOFPS but feel Destiny 1.0’s approach got it all wrong and others deridde the genre hybrid all together.

None of this information is exactly new as industry veteran reporter Jason Schreier reported almost six months ago that Destiny 2 would indeed appear on PC. In his initial report, he stated that Bungie had decided that they wanted to shift the games’ multi-platform strategy to include PC in the full sequel even if that meant leaving behind all of the characters & content created for the first title.

In part his report said:

“Earlier this year, I’d also heard from a person familiar with Bungie’s plans that Destiny 2, which is currently slated for a late 2017 release, will be on PC…. Bungie’s leadership wants Destiny 2 to feel like a proper sequel, even if that means leaving old planets, characters, and activities behind. “

At the end of the day while we don’t have a lot of concrete details on the Destiny sequel these latest retail promotional material & listing leaks could point to an imminent reveal. Huge publishers do have a habit of sending promotional materials to specialty stores like GameStop ahead of product reveals, but these reveals are usually only days or at most a week separated from the shipment of said posters & promotional items. Remember how badly Ubisoft got burned a couple of years back when they shipped Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag posters early?

Leaked Mega Bloks Set Reveals Potential Destiny Tower Battle

Posted on February 10, 2017 by Les Major

Destiny Cabal Rumors

There’s nothing set in stone about toy sets. Manufacturers aren’t bound to make products that follow series canon perfectly. So gamers shouldn’t look too far into this latest announcement about leaked Mega Bloks Destiny sets, however one interesting detail has emerged. One set focuses on a battle that occurs against the Cabal in the Tower on Earth.

Many are speculating this is a nod to Destiny 2. Other leaked information has suggested that the Cabal would be a major part of the sequel’s story. Considering they took a back seat so far in all of the raids from the original game, that assumption doesn’t seem far fetched. What I would like to see, and what I really hope is happening here, is that this is the epic conclusion to Destiny 1.

Think about it for a minute. Speculation has been that the Tower wouldn’t be the social area of Destiny 2. The sequel is seemingly about moving on and exploring new areas. What better way for the original game to wrap up would there be than to have the Tower fall? Let alone it sounds like you can’t bring your character along into the new game, or at least equipment doesn’t carry over. Again, all speculation since we do not have official word on any of this yet. If that is true however, the Tower falling could be an epic set piece to go out on. Your previous hero(s) could potentially have given their lives to save the city below in an all out battle against the Cabal. Destiny 2 could be about taking up arms against the Cabal and fighting back after this confrontation.

Whatever is going on, I’m putting in my two cents and betting on that. Just because I think that would be an epic wrap up to the game we’ve all come to know and love these past two years. So let’s see where this goes! For more details on the other leaked Destiny Mega Bloks sets check out VG247’s post.

Overwatch Sombra Blizzcon Print Leaks As Halloween Event Ends

Posted on November 1, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Remember that huge Overwatch leak from a few weeks back that confirmed Junkenstien’s revenge before its’ reveal and supposedly contained in-game character art for the mysterious Sombra? The character’s design has pretty much been confirmed thanks to an early leak of a Sombra art print that will be available on the Blizzcon Gear Store during next week’s convention.

The art piece in question was drawn by artist John Polidora who has worked as a Senior Concept Artist / Character Designer for Blizzard Entertainment since 2014 but he has been with the company in other roles since 2008. His credits include work as a character designer for Overwatch and modeling on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Litch King.

As for Sombra’s design – she’s shown wearing the same purple leatherish outfit complete with amazing sidecut and Uzis. She seems to be channeling some kind of energy into a large omnic like the ones seen in the background of the volskaya industries map, this has lead to players hypothesizing that she might control armies of the robots and her Uzi is simply for protection up close – not unlike Mercy’s blaster.

Here is the art that leaked:

With the Halloween event ending today at 4PM PST do you think Blizzard will reveal Sombra tonight or wait until this weekend’s Blizzcon?

Huge Leak Reveals Overwatch Halloween Event & Sombra

Posted on October 8, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Multiple leaks may have confirmed a number of new additions coming very soon to the world of Overwatch including a new limited time event, a new set of loot boxes and our first look at the illusive Sombra. It is important to note that none of this has been confirmed by Blizzard and all of this information comes from multiple sources, so make sure you firmly plant all of this in the rumor column until it is officially confirmed.

Sombra

sombra

The leak involving our would be hacker / assassin comes from reddit user je_te_vois who posted an internal screenshot that not only gives us our first look at Sombra’s in-game design but also details about her background.

Sadly this portion of the leak is short on details about she might play in-game. Here’s a list of what we do know:

  • She is one of the most renown hackers in the world of Overwatch.
  • She suffered a great loss as a child “costing her everything”.
  • Sombra worked as a freelance hacker before going underground due to something (the image is cut off).
  • She was later recruited by the terrorist organization Talon (which explains one of Reaper’s voice lines).

In terms of her design she sports a small SMG machine gun, a purple and white leather coat with a large collar. Her aesthetic is completed with a glorious side-cut, here just take a look for yourself:

Upcoming Comic

junkenstein

A brand new tie-in comic revealing a bit more about the Overwatch universe may drop as early as this Tuesday and the cover art for the comic tells us a lot more than just little tidbits of backstory. Titled “Junkenstein” this comic appears to be one of the centerpieces of the game’s upcoming Halloween event. Inspired by classic monster movies (for its title) and other Halloween tropes we see new outfits for both Junkrat and Mercy.

Also rumored to be coming to Overwatch (via Neogaf) but with a lot less information to back it up is a PVE horde mode where players will battle against Omnic A.Is on a special version of the Echenwald castle – sadly we have no images or further details on this possible new mode but if it is true, this would add a much needed PVE focus to a game that has been soley PVP focused since its release.

636113849615588905cyufl

Lastly what would a brand new event be without more loot boxes? Given the comic cover it is safe to say that there will be new Halloween inspired legendaries available. These loot boxes appeared briefly on the Xbox Live Marketplace so there is a high chance that they are legit.

What do you think of all of this? Quite a bit to chew through but if legit then Overwatch is about to get one heck of an expansion come this Tueaday.

We will update this story if anything becomes official.

30 Minutes of Cancelled Goldeneye XBLA Footage Appears Online

Posted on August 24, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It would appear that the almost impenetrable fortress of secrets that is Rare’s England based offices couldn’t keep James Bond’s cancelled XBLA mission a secret forever. A YouTuber by the name of ‘Rare Thief’ has uploaded 30 minutes of what appears to be direct-feed footage of the cancelled Xbox Live Arcade reimagining of the 1997 classic.

Previous leaks surrounding the unannounced, incomplete and unreleased title amounted to a widely circulated magazine cover story from Xbox Magazine from a few years back and a 30 second video clip from the Silo level.

Rare Thief’s leak is much more substantial – showing the Dam and Facility missions on Agent difficulty level in full as well as the bonus Aztec mission and some split-screen multiplayer. If GoldenEye Source got you nostalgic a few weeks back then this leak will hit you right in the feels.

As Unseen64 describes the development of the game – this project was never sanctioned by the then holders of the James Bond license (Activision) and had a very small staff of 8 people working on the upgraded port. Microsoft would eventually partner with 4J Studios for an updated version of GoldenEye’s spiritual successor Perfect Dark on XBLA in 2010.

Here is how Unseen64 described the development of Goldeneye XBLA:

the game was developed in just one year by just 8 people; Dam, Depot and Frigate levels are selectable as multiplayer arenas (even the fabled Citadel was considered just “for the fan reaction”) and the N64 version isn’t technically a port, but a rather smart graphic filter use that makes the new game look the old-fashioned way.”

It is quite interesting to imagine what could have been if Microsoft / Activision and Nintendo had come to an agreement to release this port back in 2008. I’ve reached out to try and find out as much information on the Goldeneye XBLA footage that I can. To date no copy of the unreleased title has leaked to the public and it is not known how old this footage is or what its source of origin may be.

New Pokemon Sun & Moon Leak Show Off New Pokemon Forms & Team Leaders

Posted on August 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo is set to unveil new details for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS Exclusive Pokemon: Sun & Moon this Friday but leakers have other plans for the company’s announcements. Just 24 hours after scans of an early copy of Japanese gaming magazine CoroCoro appeared online spoiling some of the fun, clips & screen grabs from the upcoming Pokemon Sun & Moon trailer appeared online.

Here’s what has leaked so far:

  • A new water type Pokemon called Wishiwashi which has both solo & school forms. The school form is actually several discrete combined WishiWashi that form one giant fish – kinda like a PokeFish version of Voltron.
  • Giant cuddle monster Raichu gets a brand new form thanks to its surfing capable variation which also comes with a new Psychic / Electric type combination.
  • Morelull is a new fairy/grass type Pokemon whose aesthetic is best described as one big purple umbrella and two smaller ones.
  • Who is going to oppose the teenage protagonist this time around? It looks like Team Skull will be our adversaries in this brand new Pokemon adventure and one of their new members, Plumeria is described as “Team Skull’s big sister” as well as a “Team Skull Admin”.

Pokemon Sun & Moon will be released on November 18th. Check out screengrabs from this 4chan/Neogaf leak below:

Supposed NVidia Geforce 1060 VS Radeon 480 Benchmarks Leak Ahead of Launch

Posted on July 12, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nvidia’s latest  attempt to absolutely dominate the mid-range GPU market kicks off in one week, on July 19th the graphics card manufacturer will launch the Geforce 1060. Reviewers who have units are under NDA until launch day according to several other hardware blogs, but it appears that official benchmarks straight from team green have leaked ahead of the card’s release.  If the 1060 performs as well as these benchmarks imply will it be enough to stop the waves of hype / stock shortages created by the success of AMD’s Radeon RX 480?

*prepare your loads of salt to be taken before looking over these numbers*

salt

Alright ready? These supposedly official benchmark compared an unspecified Geforce 1060 (presumably the 6GB model, but whether  any overclock settings were used is unknown) against the Radeon RX 480 and last generation’s Geforce 960.

In terms of games tested Nvidia selected 3 Direct X 12 titles – Forza Motorsport: Apex Beta, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ashes of the Singularity.  Their selection of Direct X 11 titles gives a wider variety of benchmarks with 9 titles ranging from last year’s Star Wars: Battlefront & Crysis 3 from Electronic Arts to CD Projekt Red’s highly demanding The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

Forza Motorsport

How are the results? Well apparently the Geforce 1060 is faster than the Radeon RX 480 in every game tested aside from two – The Division and Fallout 4, where the scores was less than a 1% difference.

AMD’s Radeon 480 was unveiled last month and released on June 29th for $199 USD for the 4GB model and $249 USD for the 8GB model. Demand for these cards have been red hot for the past few weeks with shortages in places like Canada leading to retailers charging a premium on markets like Ebay and Amazon.  It could be a while before you can simply walk into a shop and pick up a 480 off the shelf.

Here are the leaked benchmarks:

Geforce_1060_perform1

Geforce_1060_perform3

Geforce_1060_perform2

Do you think that hardware reviewers will find a huge difference between the Geforce 1060 and Radeon 480 when the NDA drops next week? As a Radeon 480 owner I’m interested to see what the competition brings to the table but I’ve already made my choice for my current-generation VR card.

Dead Rising 4 Leaks Ahead of Official Unveiling Next Week

Posted on June 7, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like the cat is out of the bag for one of Capcom’s big reveals at Microsoft’s E3 press briefing. The infected shall rise again, facing off against longtime Zombie slayer Frank West in a Xbox One / Windows Store exclusive Dead Rising 4 according to leaked screenshots and promotional material that appeared online yesterday.

Reportedly the game will also shift the time period of the Willamette Incident from late Summer to Christmas time. Unlike the other games in the franchise, DR4 will run on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, ditching the proprietary engine that has powered the series since Capcom Vancouver’s Dead Rising 2.

Random Xbox Live User Given Access To Partial Halo Wars 2 Test Build

Posted on May 6, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Halo Salute

Yesterday Redditor OniYsoni posted a brief clip of an early network test build for Microsoft’s upcoming console RTS Halo Wars 2, running on his retail Xbox One. The build that OniYsoni had access too wouldn’t progress further than the creative assembly / 343i logos and the game’s main menu, which are described as being stylistically inline with the first title. After posting the YouTube clip and accompany off screen shots OniYsoni lost access to the internal Halo Wars 2 build which clocked in at about 18GB, a little too big to be just a series of menus.

Halo_Wars

Other posters in his Reddit thread confirmed that Creative Assembly and 343 Industries distributed a test build of the game, but of course, it was under NDA.

Microsoft issued a statement to PCGamesSN regarding Halo Wars 2 at E3, while dodging the topic of the recent Xbox One leak entirely:

“It’s no secret that we are hard at work on Halo Wars 2 .. and as a part of the development process, we continually test various aspects of the game. We look forward to showing Halo Wars 2 to the world at E3.”

Broken Joysticks will have staff in Los Angeles covering E3 2016 this year. If anything about Halo Wars 2 breaks or the game is playable on the show-floor we will be sure to bring it to you!

Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition Includes Early Access

Posted on April 25, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Gears of War 4 beta is in full swing until the end of this week but Microsoft has already flipped the switch on pre-orders for the Ultimate Edition edition of the game which includes a week of early access to the title when it ships later this year. Originally spotted on the New Zealand Xbox One digital store the game’s description dishes out additional details – it’s not just the early access that might be of interest to potential buyers.

According to the store listing by purchasing the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War 4 players are guaranteeing that they will have access to “one year of maps”. This of course implies that extra content for Gears 4 will not be provided for free, like Halo 5’s but will rather be tied to some sort of Season’s Pass. This Season’s Pass will give owners access to 24 maps in custom games & private server meaning that those playing pre-configured playlists will be at the whim of that week’s selection of maps, but presumably all maps will make their way in and out of rotation.

Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition had a price point of $149.99 NZD which roughly translates to $99.99 USD based on current exchange rates. We will bring you more information on Gears 4: Ultimate Edition as it becomes available.

Check Out The Evolution of Half-Life 2’s Prison In This Video Compilation

Posted on April 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It is well known that the story, environment and even characters of Valve’s classic shooter Half-Life 2 went through many different iterations during the game’s five year development.  YouTube user TalonBrave.info have taken it upon themselves to chronicle the many different changes the Nova Prospekt map (once simply known as ‘Prison’) underwent throughout 2002.

Speaking about one particular unused area called ‘The Caffiteria’ TalonBrave wrote:

“The level you’re seeing here is from a VMF named cafeteria, which appears to have been produced by David Sawyer; who was a designer at Valve, who produced most of the iterations of the Prison that we’re going to see.The level you’re seeing here is from a VMF named cafeteria, which appears to have been produced by David Sawyer; who was a designer at Valve, who produced most of the iterations of the Prison that we’re going to see.”

Ubisoft Files New Beyond Good & Evil Trademark

Posted on April 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft has filed for a brand new trademark that would cover the oft thought abandoned Beyond Good & Evil franchise. This new trademark would cover game software, clothing, online components to game software and interestingly paper products. While I doubt we could be seeing a BG&E pen & paper RPG, perhaps this new filing lends some credibility to the rumor from earlier in the year that Beyond Good & Evil 2 would be revealed as a Nintendo NX exclusive at this year’s E3.

Trademark

The original reveal for BG&E 2 took play at Ubisoft’s Udays conference almost 8 years ago. After Michel Ancel reportedly left Ubisoft in 2010, this coincided with a confirmed gameplay leak that featured protagonist Jade running through an urban environment. Bringing things more closer to the present, it was reported last year that game was being play tested at Ubisoft’s Montpellier studio and whatever game Montpellier is working on, it has been confirmed to be targeted for current generation hardware (PS4, Xbox One, PC like specs).

[youtube id=”rsfs4Kvsr-U”]

What do you think of this latest filing? Could BG&E 2 be on the way? Whatever happens, Broken Joysticks will have folks on the ground at E3 2016.
