The Game Awards Have Always Been Trash

Posted on December 8, 2023 by Rae Michelle Richards

As someone who has covered videogames as an industry since 2002 off and on for the past two decades –  big corporate events and spectacles are something I’ve seen morph from being laser focused on single titles accessible to a select few to livestreamed “events” that draw millions of eyeballs waiting for the next big trailer or reveal. With E3 dead and over The Game Awards have since taken the place as the premiere space for “world reveals” and preplanned P.R campaigns. It is no secret that the The Game Awards are primarily a platform for upcoming games and surprise

Report: New Final Fantasy Souls-Like In Development At Team Ninja

Posted on May 26, 2021 by Rae Michelle Richards

According to new reports the Final Fantasy franchise might be branching out in a slightly unexpected direction – the “souls” genre. Going from a party of casters, melee, healers and heroes to a single playable character is quite the departure from what we are used to from Final Fantasy. Sure the series has experimented with a three member setup (XIII) and even a two party setup (Lightning Returns) but the slower paced combat, potential focus on counters and expected difficulty spikes could mean the end result is something entirely unseen in the FF series. News broke via Fanbyte two days

Report: Blizzard Cancels Starcraft Shooter To Focus On Overwatch Sequel

Posted on June 8, 2019 by Rae Michelle Richards

Blizzard Entertainment is notoriously secretive when it comes to their in-development projects but that didn’t stop gaming journalist sleuth Jason Schreier of Kotaku unearthing that the Anaheim based developer halted work on the yet another Starcraft shooter (RIP Ghost) to move developers onto either a continuation or spin-off title set in the Overwatch Universe currently called “Overwatch 2”. Project Ares was the code name given to this potential Starcraft third person shooter helmed by veteran developer Dustin Browder. A playable build of the game reportedly cast the player as a Terran Marine who could “gun down Zerg monsters” but future

Major Changes For Destiny 2 As Bungie Prepares To Go Free To Play

Posted on June 7, 2019 by Rae Michelle Richards

It’s been a couple months now since Bungie and Activision parted ways with the conclusion of the publishers involvement with the Destiny franchise. In a live stream held yesterday Bungie announced what the future has in store for the two year old shooter, the announcement of a new distribution platform for the game, cross-save functionality and even the next expansion. There is a lot to take in! Destiny 2 will be jumping ship from the Battle.net launcher and making a home for itself on Valve’s Steam service starting this September. A process will presumably be in place by then to

Fortnite Brings Back Popular LTMS With ‘The 14 Days of Fortnite’

Posted on December 18, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

14 Days of Fortnite Epic Games will be rotating classic, brand new and fan favorite Limited Time Modes in both the individual and team varieties every 48 and 24 hours respectively from December 19th until Jan 1st. We don’t exactly know what modes will return but honestly I’m hoping for Team Terror, Squad Terror and Gliding 50s returning during this event. The “terror” series of LTMS was honestly the most fun I had in the game during Season 6 – the addition of PVE zombies made it feel like a slice of STW crossed over into BR. Gliding 50s is

Everything Talked About During The Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest Q & A

Posted on November 19, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Over the weekend Square Enix held the biennial Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest in Las Vegas. Expectations were high, and honestly it feels like Naoki Yoshida and co delivered with the debut trailer for the game’s latest expansion ShadowBringers. On Saturday Final Fantasy XIV Producer / Director Noaki Yoshida sat down with Sound Director Masayoshi Soken along with a translator. The pair took questions from curious Warriors of Light who traveled from all around the (physical) world to ask the pair questions about Eorzea, its lore and what the future had in store.  Topics ranged from how the developers plan

Five More Final Fantasy Games We’d Like To See On Switch

Posted on September 25, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

With Final Fantasy is making the jump to Nintendo Switch throughout the next year there are still many more tales that would be an absolute delight to have on the go on Nintendo Switch. The lack of Final Fantasy 8 in the release schedule has been covered to death – and apparently there’s no modern port for S.E to easily convert to switch – so baring that entry here are six more Final Fantasy titles that should grace our favorite console.  In no particular order….  Final Fantasy Explorers   Monster Hunter World showed that Capcom’s long niche boss gauntlet game can

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition Misses 2018, Coming In January

Posted on September 10, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

If you’re a “Tales of” fan like myself you’re probably really looking forward to the upcoming HD Remaster, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. Bandai Namco never officially gave ToV: Definitive Edition a solid release date in the west when it revealed the game at Xbox’s E3 presentation this past June.  Many fans and even some retailers expected the game to drop sometime this November but it appears the publisher had other plans for Yuri, Estelle, Rapede and Karol for their current generation debut. The gang’s going to get back together for their 10th anniversary when Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~ | Review

Posted on September 7, 2018 by Jason Nason

SNK HEROINES Tag Team Frenzy is a fast, colourful tag-team fighting game from NIS America. While the game is a little bit light and has a few small flaws, it’s an enjoyable and unique fighting game that is pretty fun to play. It’s not an instant classic that is going to become a tournament staple, but it holds its own. The game has a brief single player story mode. The heroines suddenly awoke to find themselves in a strange mansion they’d never seen before. And to top it off they find themselves dressed in strange new outfits as they begin
