Sonic Adventure 2 HD | Review

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Oh Sega. You have come a long way since the Sonic the Hedgehog reboot for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. You have been trying your hardest to give us a great Sonic game since those days where you were at your lowest point. With the last games: Sonic Generations and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episodes I and II, it seems as though you’re starting to come back into good graces with the fans.

With Sonic Adventure 2 HD and the plethora of other old Dreamcast titles, it seems as though Sega is going back to the past to look for some inspiration. It’s good that they have come back to Sonic Adventure 2, because it was one of the most controversial titles during it’s time on the Dreamcast and now we have the full version just sitting on our Xbox 360 and PS3 hard drives. So, does Sonic Adventure 2 bring the goods?Read More

Microsoft Confirms Cash for Xbox Content on Windows 8

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Today, Microsoft lifted the veil on their pricing for Xbox content on PC’s running Windows 8. Windows 8 will indeed be taking normal money for Xbox content. This is welcome news for anyone looking to get new content via the Xbox Live Marketplace. In a statement that was given to The Verge:

“Current Xbox Live customers may also make a purchase using points,” says a Microsoft spokesperson.

This also brings up a very big important point for Xbox 360 users. Microsoft will not be getting rid of the Microsoft Points and it will still the the primary method of obtaining content on Xbox 360 machines. This is a huge blow to many fans wanting Microsoft to get rid of the point system and using normal currency to purchase and obtain content. Microsoft also gave The Verge a statement about this as well:

“Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console.”

Does this mean the Xbox 360 will always use the point system? It seems very possible that Microsoft will continue to use the point system until the end of the Xbox 360’s lifecycle. It could be an inclusion in next year’s Xbox 360 console update cycle. I wouldn’t hold my breathe on that one.

Angry Birds Star Wars Games Announced

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Joshua Rust

It was bound to happen sooner or later. A franchise that knows no bounds, Angry Birds, is expanding its force by teaming up with Star Wars for a crossover. While it has been given a November 8th release date, the platforms aren’t all confirmed at the moment. But we will update you when we know.

[youtube id=”lyB6G4Cz9fI” width=”600″ height=”350″]

CMO of Rovio, Peter Vesterbacka, had this to say about the crossover:

This is the best Angry Birds game we’ve ever done. It’s the best parts of Angry Birds with all new cutting-edge gameplay set in in a galaxy far, far away. As a big Star Wars fan myself, I’m really excited about this new universe. The Force is definitely strong with this one.

Colum Slevin, Head of Studio Operations for Lucasfilm, stated his opinions about the crossover as well:

Both Star Wars and Angry Birds share the instant and irresistible appeal of hands-on fun. People seem to instinctively know what to do when handed a lightsaber or a bird in a slingshot, so this is a natural combination.

So I guess the real question is: What do you all think about this? Too much of a good thing is a bad thing? Or the more birds the better? It does have me wondering what’s next for Angry Birds. Perhaps LEGO’s or Angry Birds Marvel Universe….

Dishonored | Review

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jesse Lord

What would you do with a drunken whaler,
What would you do with a drunken whaler,
What would you do with a drunken whaler,
Early in the morning?

High towers rise up, overlooking long-neglected ruins.  Plague runs rampant throughout many of the city’s districts.  Houses and apartments are fitted with reinforced blast doors, the sign of another family lost to the powerful and fatal disease.  Train cars trundle about down the narrow streets, brimming with canvas-wrapped bodies.  Corrupt and power-drunk city watchmen prowl the streets, looking for any opportunity to inflict pain and suffering on the survivors.  Huge whaling ships float by in the harbors, off to search for more of their bounty and it’s life-and-power-giving properties.

Welcome to Dunwall.

Echo Logs From Gaige, the Mechromancer (Plus Skill Tree Unveiled)

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Gaige the Mechromancer, the upcoming fifth class in Borderlands 2, has decided to tease us with a couple of Echo logs. From the sound of it, she could be just as crazy as Tiny Tina. Wait, check that, I don’t think anyone is as crazy (and adorable) as Tiny Tina.

[youtube id=”Ijs-FEk3OIk” width=”600″ height=”350″]

[youtube id=”9zNk8kM2Qj0″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

As for the skill tree for Gaige, Gearbox has unveiled it over at the official Borderlands 2website. You can find it by clicking here. You may have to enter the age gate first. If so, enter that in and come back and click the link again. This should direct you straight to her skill tree page.

Gaige is expected to release October 16th free for Premium Members (it will be 800 MSP for non-members). I wish it was here already!

Fox Developing Battlefield: Bad Company Into TV Series

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Deadline.com reports that Fox has started development of a tv show for the ever popular Battlefield franchise. More specifically, the Battlefield: Bad Company game.

Here are the official details as shown by Deadline.com:

Fox has put in development Bad Company, an hourlong action comedy based on EA’s bestselling video game from Alias alum John Eisendrath, Sony TV and studio-based Happy Madison.

Written by Eisendrath, Bad Company features the main characters from the game. It follows four renegade soldiers as they exit military life and enter the private sector. But trouble is never far behind as they realize their commanding officer had used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks. Eisendrath is executive producing with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson and EA’s Patrick Bach and Patrick O’Brien.

So could this be the new trend for video games? To start releasing tv shows based on established names? I’m all for it if the quality is there. How about you all?

The World of Warcraft Killer

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Have you been playing World of Warcraft recently? Do you have the latest expansion Mists of Pandaria? Are you sitting there reading this and getting mad? Then you’ve probably hit the Mists of Pandaria hacker today on World of Warcraft.

So, here’s the story by Dual Shockers: A level one player managed to hack the game to get to fly around the city and start killing innocent bystanders that just happened to be at the Alliance capitol city: Stormwind. Why was he doing it? Well, we do not have that information at this time, heck, we don’t even have the player that was doing it. What makes this even weirder, is that there Blizzard was working on a fix that would stop players from being stuck on the world connection screen. Pretty weird, eh? Is that a coincidence somehow?

It seems that Blizzard is still looking into this issue and have already rolled out the fix for the connection issues. We’ll update you more as soon as we hear anything. You might want to stay away from Stormwind for a while in the meantime.

On-Disc DLC In RE6?

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Most of you are probably thinking in your head “I knew it was too good to be true” but hold off on that thought for a moment.  Modders were mining the date on the Resident Evil 6 disc (since when is mining now the trend for new games?) and found a code on the disc for a No Hope difficulty setting along with other taunts, costumes and melee attacks for the controllable characters. Read More

MW2’s Favela Is Being Benched, Possibly Forever

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Seung Lee

If you’ve ever played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, then you’ll probably remember playing on Favela, a map based on the Brazilian shanty towns. But, if you hop on MW2 right now, you’ll notice that it’s no longer in the map rotation for any of the game modes. That’s because some upset Muslims have banded together to demand Infinity Ward and Activision, the companies behind MW2, to remove the map from the rotation.

It’s a shame because Favela was one of my favorite maps on the game, but instigating heated arguments here isn’t in my interest. Would it kill the people who patched the game to at least patch One Man Army or Danger Close, though? I’m sure a lot more people (including myself) would play MW2 again, if we knew we wouldn’t be blown up every five seconds.

Rayman Legends Delayed

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Uh oh! It looks like the one of the very first launch titles will be delayed. Rayman Legends will be delayed until to Q1 2013 said Ubisoft today.

In a statement given by Ubisoft, this is what they had to say regarding the delay:

Rayman Legends will launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2013.

We’re happy that fans are excited about the game, and we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations. We’ll have more details to share soon.

The original plan for Rayman Legend was that it was supposed to be one of the 23 launch titles that would ship with the system. The Wii U launch title count is now down to 22 in the US and 12 across Europe. One now has to wonder if the more titles could be delayed with the November 18th release date now creeping closer.

We hope, however, that this will be the last piece of bad news for titles coming out close to or on the release date .

We are just a few short days away from the launch of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. What I’ll be interested to see about this game is how it stacks up in comparison to come of the older games in the franchise…and I do mean older games. If you have Steam, you can download the demo incase you are skeptical about this game.

While we wait for the games release, check out the launch trailer!

Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron | Review

Posted on October 5, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the sequel to the surprise hit Transformers: War For Cybertron. I managed to miss the predecessor, but thanks to some friends here at Broken Joysticks I got my hands on the sequel. Man does it feel good to be playing a good transformers game. The Transformers franchise has not been treated so well in recent years. With those terrible movies and all, I’m glad to see developer High Moon Studios has such high respect for the source material.Read More

Persona 4 Arena | Review

Posted on October 5, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Wait a second an RPG is transcending it’s genre and making the leap to…a fighting game? I couldn’t believe the precedent being created when Persona 4 Arena was announced. I had an even harder time believing that such a drastic leap away from the norm could turn out so well. Yes dear readers P4 Arena is not only a competent fighter, it is also a great one. Can you believe it? This sets the stage so that other fighters could possibly become RPGs or something completely different. Man we live in one exciting time. Well here we go let’s talk about how one of the best JRPGs released in the last decade made the leap to a tournament level fighting game.Read More
