Bethesda Announces Fallout 76, May Be A Online Survival Game

Posted on May 30, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda had been running a mysterious and unannounced Twitch stream yesterday that was literally just a Fallout bobblehead standing upright in front of a camera and occasionally a “Please Stand By” title card.  Not exactly something that was going to set the world on fire, and it can be easy to see why the hype and announcement of Pokemon Lets Go: Eevee & Pikachu overshadowed anything Bethesda was doing it.

It turns out all of this was to build up hype to the announcement of Fallout 76, a game officially know nothing about and whose press release simply confirms that it exists and will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – alongside an official logo.

Unofficial sources told Kotaku that the game is an online survival RPG in the vein of Rust or ARK or 7 Days to Die. That means it will allow multiple players to connect via a central server to build fortresses, gather resources and well.. Survive. What we don’t know about Fallout 76 is whether or not the game will support offline play or player run servers (as both 7 Days to Die and ARK do).

More details are expected at Bethesda’s E3 showcase in two weeks time.

Skyrim Roars Onto The Nintendo Switch Today

Posted on November 17, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda has released the long-awaited Nintendo Switch version of 2011’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It has been five years since the original release of Skyrim on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but the Nintendo Switch version does see several improvements from last year’s Skyrim: Special Edition. This means that the Switch version of Skyrim runs on a modified version of the 64-bit Fallout 4 engine and can make use of the system’s full 4GB of ram. As well Skyrim for Switch also includes the Dawnguard, Dragon Born and Hearth Fire DLC add-ons right on the cartridge.

A few Nintendo specific treats are also available that might interest those who are returning to Tamriel- Link’s Master Sword, Hylian Shield and Champions Tunic from the Legend of Zelda series are obtainable exclusively in this version of the game.

With the release of Skyrim on Switch every game from the original Nintendo Switch reveal video has been released!😀

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Launch Trailer Released

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is out on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This standalone sequel to last year’s Dishonored II also provides Billie Lurk with the starring role as the playable protagonist for this entry in the Dishonored franchise.

Billie does not have “the mark of the outsider”, instead she has her own unique set of abilities allowing her to plan a bank heist, enter underground fight clubs and ultimately take down the Outsider and bring a close to the plotline of Dishonored II.

Content Warning: Bethesda’s recently released launch trailer does mature content including graphic violence and at least one beheading.

Nuka-World Official Trailer Released Today

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Les Major

Nuka-World DLC

On August 30th, Fallout 4 fans will get to take on last summer vacation before we get into September. Bethesda Softworks’s last DLC entry in the post apocalyptic RPG adventure takes players to a theme park based on the Nuka Cola brand! Nuka-World seems to be a Disney parody sort of park with quite a lot to do. I mean, there’s even a Space Mountain like ride! Plus there’s Skee ball! Check out the trailer below for the latest on this new location being added to the game.

I have to give Bethesda credit. In a world where there are a ton of locations and side quests to explore, they do keep DLC coming that does encourage players to diverge off the beaten path for awhile and seek out something new.

Bethesda Working on Three Big New Projects

Posted on February 18, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

New projects Bethesda

Apparently Bethesda is working on no less than three big projects, each of which represents a “Bethesda-style game”. Speaking at Dice in Las Vegas today, Todd Howard, the director of both Fallout 4 and Skyrim, had this to say:

“We have three longer-term projects we’re doing that are all … we’ll talk about them at a much future date. But they’re different than anything we’ve done before while also being a Bethesda-style game; (they’re) big and crazy.”

It is not known whether one of these three projects is the next entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise, although seeing as “they’re different than anything we’ve done before”, they might very well all be new IP. Calling them Bethesda-style games seems to suggest they will be modern RPG’s in the vein of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Like with Ubisoft, I am somewhat worried that making the same game with a different coat of paint will eventually become tiresome. Bethesda isn’t milking that cow nearly as hard as Ubisoft however, and applying the formula to vastly different settings could be interesting. We still have far too few wild-west RPG’s in my humble opinion. Plus, if that happens, somebody will mod in Macho Man. Somebody always mods in Macho Man. And it will be glorious.

AMD Crimson Driver & Software Suite Rumored For Imminent Release

Posted on November 24, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Owners of AMD cards have been seeing some inferior benchmarks when compared against comparable Nvidia hardware with recent titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum and The Witcher III. Many tech journalists and enthusiasts users have speculated that this disparity may have to do with these titles utilization of Nvidia’s proprietary GameWorks technologies. Rain effects in Batman, Lighting in Fallout 4 and hair in The Witcher III all utilize Nvidia exclusive technologies that AMD owners have had to tone down or disable entirely in order to achieve the same framerates as GeForce owners.

It looks like AMD might finally have an answer with the (rumored) impending release of AMD Radeon Crimson – a brand new driver and software suite that according to leaked marketing material will provide a number of benefits to owners of existing and future hardware.

On the r/PCGaming sub-reddit a user by the handle of BehindaCorpFirewall posted a link to over a dozen presentation slides that outline the AMD Crimson software. Here are a few of the more interesting points, at least to me:

Higher Frames Per Second

  • Asynchronous Shaders allow for breaking serial workloads into parallel tasks
  • Idle GPU resources used for this task instead of queuing
  • Improved multi-threading performance

Low Frame Rate Compensation Technology

  • Smooths out gameplay when application frame rate falls below monitor refresh rate
  • Algorithms adjust GPU output and refresh-rate to prevent game stuttering
  • No additional hardware or configuration required for this feature.

Custom Resolutions Support & Better Up-Scaling

  • Allows users to create custom resolutions.
  • Control over pixel density & refresh rate.
  • Improved 2k (1080P) à 4K (UHD) scaling

What do you think of some of these rumored changes that the Crimson driver & software may bring? If these leaked material are even close to accurate we could see the rollout of this new software package in the coming days. If you head-on over to the AMD website you can already watch a preview video outlining some of the work that has gone into Crimson.

Right now all of this should be considered a rumor, as an AMD owner I’ll be sure to take some bench marks in some of the games I regularly play and report back after the rollout.

Surprising No One Fallout 4 Is Still The 2nd Most Played Game On Steam

Posted on November 18, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 is the 2nd most played game on Steam a week after its release with 256,000+ players. This comes after the game broke existing records when it launched last week with 360,000 players – the game went live at midnight on November 11th. Previously RockStar Game’s Grand Theft Auto V held the record for concurrent players with 301,000+ when it was released on PC this past April.

Fallout 4’s numbers are nowhere near the reigning champion, Valve’s DOTA 2, which had 318,000 concurrent players as of press time and a peak today of nearly a million players today! Comparing Fallout 4’s numbers to DOTA 2’s isn’t exactly fair since one game is a single player immersive RPG and the other is a 5 Vs. 5 MOBA.

Rounding out the top ten include PC staples like Valve’s own Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2. Surprisingly Activision’s latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops III is the last place on the top ten. I would have thought Black Ops III would have been a bit higher but I guess you can’t deny the power of the wastelands.

CURRENT PLAYERS PEAK TODAY   GAME
318,155 806,386   Dota 2
256,633 292,202   Fallout 4
250,258 586,014   Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
40,526 54,472   Team Fortress 2
37,893 58,566   Football Manager 2016
30,565 39,535   ARK: Survival Evolved
27,964 33,635   Sid Meier’s Civilization V
22,566 26,840   Garry’s Mod
21,037 26,366   The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
19,739 35,395   Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Fallout 4’s Minimum Specs Might Leave Your PC In Ruins

Posted on October 10, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda’s absolutely massive open world roleplaying game (that some people have successfully argued isn’t a roleplaying game but rather a society simulator) is due out in exactly a month and now we know the minimum PC Specs as well as the hard drive requirements for console players. Get ready to check your graphics cards and clear out your hard drive because the nukes are about to fall!

In terms of minimum PC specs these numbers aren’t so bad – the Phenom II 940 is a rather old processor from about five years ago and anyone who’s upgraded their graphics hardware should meet the minimum standards of a 550 TI 2GB or Radeon HD 7870 quite easily. More concerning for me (since I am primarily an AMD devotee) is the obviously overclocked recommended processor speed of a staggering 4.7GHZ with a 4GB graphics card.

Between Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront’s daunting system specs I think I’ll be going for the PS4 versions of both games. I am a little disappointed in Fallout 4’s minimum specs to be honest, I know my gaming rig is only a mid-range setup but I barely meet the recommended specs and I am not about to overclock my processor to nearly 5GHZ to play this game. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to trying out some of the cooler mods on PC, as Fallout 3 had great mod support.

In terms of console players the base game will require 28 – 35 GB of hard drive space, which isn’t too bad. For more details make sure to head over to Bethesda’s official blog post about the minimum requirements for Fallout 4.

PC Systems Requirements (Requires Internet Connection and Free Steam Account to Activate)

Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

Recommended
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

Sure, it’s just a teaser trailer, but a lot of people are more excited than ever for the upcoming new DOOM game. First off, is that the cyber demon from the original DOOM game in the image above? The Elder Scrolls Online Headed To Xbox One & PS4

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Proof that developers and publisher still believe that MMO’s can work on consoles. Defiance has started off on a pretty good note, it lacks a little depth after putting in about 100+ hours but it’s still proof that they can work on a console.

So, nothing makes me happier to confirm that Bethesda is bringing The Elder Scrolls Online to both the Xbox One & Playstation 4 – targeted at a 2014 release date. Straying from the traditional single player formula, TESO looks like it could be the next World Of Warcraft. Question remains, can they keep the integrity of what makes the TES games so great and transfer that into an MMO? I say yes.

Released at E3 was a gameplay trailer, which you can view after the jump!Read More

Wolfenstein: The New Order Announced By Bethesda

Posted on May 7, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Bethesda Softworks released a surprise announcement today, that is they are publishing a new Wolfenstein game. Titled Wolfenstein: The New Order, it is in development at Swedish developer MachineGames (which was founded back in 2009 by founders of Starbreeze Studios).

This new installment of Wolfenstein is set in an alternate universe where the Nazi’s won World War II and this game is thought as the “reimagining” of the franchise. So a new studio takes over a great franchise and hopefully they will make something spectacular of it – unlike the most recent attempt which received a 72/100 average over at Metacritic.

With the announcement of the Wolfenstein: The New Order is of course a new trailer, which you can see after the jump!

Bethesda Teases New Video Game, Reveal Tomorrow

Posted on April 18, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Bethesda, for the past few days, have released some really weird teaser clips for their next game. Announced today that the full reveal will in fact be tomorrow (April 19th, 2013), we can’t wait to see what they got up their sleeve. I know I personally am looking forward to the next Fallout game, but I’d gladly welcome any new franchise that they want to put out.

The first video features a spinning record, the second features burning flowers and a mystery background person, and the latest one features a shadow creeping around…

Can anyone make any sense of these clips? Bethesda mentioned this has nothing to do with the Fallout franchise, so this must be something new yes? Rumors say that it could be the next Wolfenstien or Zwei (next game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami).

Skyrim Gets Even More “Legendary”

Posted on March 4, 2013 by Joshua Rust

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the best looking games you will find on a console. Probably one of the most massive worlds you will ever roam as well. It’s great to see a game, especially of this size, still getting the support it needs and deserves from Bethesda for the players who are still roaming the land in pursuit of legend, fame, and an arrow in the knee.

So, if you’ve mastered playing Skyrim on the hard difficulty get ready because when the new update launches (sometime soon) it will add a “Legendary” difficulty. In addition to that, you will be able to reset your skills once they reach level 100 (deemed: Legendary) and start leveling them back up again – along with your character level…presumably resulting in an unlimited level cap? Read on for more details.Read More

Skyrim Contest Results!

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Ok, we’re officially to the end of our Skyrim giveaway contest.  MAJOR thanks go out to Bethesda for not only providing the copies of Skyrim and Dragonborn DLC, but for also giving us a shout-out on the official Elder Scrolls Twitter account.  While our site quickly tapped out under the huge and sudden influx of visitors hoping to score the game, we got the word out via our Facebook page as well as our Twitter page.

We had an influx of tweets all asking for either the full version on PC, or the DLC for the 360.  Our Twitter following more than tripled in a very short timeframe!  After counting the number of unique entries, we then used a random number generator to get our two winners.  And without further ado, the winners are….

Bethesda just sent over this fantastic new trailer for the first bit of DLC for Dishonored, called Dunwall City Trials.  Check it out below!

[youtube id=”mEqwAd1o_8k” width=”600″ height=”338″]

This DLC comes out on December 11th, this coming Tuesday, and will cost you $4.99 on PC and PS3, and 400 MS Points on Xbox 360.

Also, I just got a nice Holiday card in the mail from our friends at Bethesda, so I wanted to take the time to say thanks for that!  Here’s what they sent – it’s a very stealthy Christmas, apparently:
