Borderlands 2 Gets Massive Patch on Xbox 360

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Gearbox Software has issued a pretty massive patch for the Xbox 360 version of Borderlands 2. Back when the game launched this past September users reported resets in regards to their badass ranking. Surely, this must have been enraging.

In a surprising twist Gearbox not only fixed the issue but also added the ability for players to reset all challenges once they have completed at least 85% of them.  You will not be able to earn any additional tokens from this but it can help bolster your rank. Tossed in as a thank you for waiting is also ten golden keys!

Check out the brief patch description below:

Players can now reset all challenge progress for a character once they’ve completed 85% of all non-DLC, non-area-specific challenge levels. This will keep the player’s current challenge bonuses and rank, but reset all challenge progress to 0 and allow challenges to be re-completed for additional ranks and bonuses. This option will appear as a tooltip at the bottom of the “challenges” screen within the status menu if the player has met the criteria.

Skyrim Contest Results!

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Ok, we’re officially to the end of our Skyrim giveaway contest.  MAJOR thanks go out to Bethesda for not only providing the copies of Skyrim and Dragonborn DLC, but for also giving us a shout-out on the official Elder Scrolls Twitter account.  While our site quickly tapped out under the huge and sudden influx of visitors hoping to score the game, we got the word out via our Facebook page as well as our Twitter page.

We had an influx of tweets all asking for either the full version on PC, or the DLC for the 360.  Our Twitter following more than tripled in a very short timeframe!  After counting the number of unique entries, we then used a random number generator to get our two winners.  And without further ado, the winners are….

Metro: The Last Light “Genesis” Trailer Comes Into The Light

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

If you haven’t played Metro 2033 from 4A Games you are missing out on one of the greatest hidden gems on the Xbox 360 console. While it averaged a favorable reception from critics (earning a 77/100 on Metacritic across 83 reviewers), I still believe it’s one of the best un-established games that has come out in this generation of consoles. For those that haven’t played it, THQ is offering up a free steam code by “liking” their Facebook page – but the quantities are limited so hurry!

So apparently it did so well that it justified a sequel and rightly so! For those unfamiliar with the lore of this game, it is adapted from Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro 2033. For more information about the book, you can check out this wiki page. For those of you who have played the first game, I’m interested to hear what you thought about the first game and which ending you did?

Now, onto the trailer from the sequel – Metro: The Last Light

While an exact date hasn’t been narrowed down just yet, Metro: The Last Light is expected to launch March 2013.

Mass Effect 4 Coming Late 2014 – Mid 2015 (Update)

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Update 12/13/12: This is why we state it was a “mystery source” as now the Gamer Syndrome article that was posted was pulled today with the site stating:

“This interview has been removed. The information provided previously by the author of this post was deemed to be obtained from an inaccurate source and NOT an official Bioware or EA interview response. We apologize for the inconvinience.”

So there we have it folks. If new information comes into the light, we will be here to share it with you. At least we do know that Mass Effect 4 is in development now.

Original Story

An unnamed Bioware dev gave Gamer Syndrome an interesting update on what the status of Mass Effect 4. This mystery source states that:

“Fans can expect a similar style of choices and action that they’ve come to know in Mass Effect. Casey Hudson is very much involved in the new Mass Effect game, as well as many from Edmonton. BioWare Montreal is a great studio and they did fantastic with the multiplayer for Mass Effect 3, so fans should know the series is in good hands,” they said.

“You’ll hear more about the new Mass Effect game in 2013.”

So, we are pretty sure that this game will definitely be next-gen and almost 100% that it will run on the Frostbite 2 engine – which was created for Dragon Age 3.

I’m personally hoping that they let you pick from different races then have the storyline alter depending on what race you pick. I can dream, but regardless: I’m ready for Mass Effect 4, Dragon Age 3, and the next generation to get here! What would you all like to see implemented in the next iteration of Mass Effect? Please don’t say competitive multiplayer…please!

God of War Ascension Beta Releases Fury On PSN This Jan

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

If you’re a Playstation Plus member it is not just free games that you will get to enjoy early next year. The multiplayer beta version of God of War Ascension will hit the PlayStation store next month but those of you who completed the Rise of the Warrior social game earlier in the year will be able to jump in on the gore filled madness on December 16th.

God of War Ascension was announced at this year’s E3 expo and brings multiplayer to the series for the first time in its five game history. Developed by series creators Sony’s Santa Monica Studios this entry shakes things up a bit by featuring a single player story that has a revised weapon system and a “prompt-less combat” which does away with the traditional quick time events in favor of a more button mashy configuration.

The beta will feature two modes – Team Favor of the Gods and Free for All Favor of the Gods. You earn points via kills, opening chests or holding certain objectives. The full game will be available on March 12th 2013 in North America.

Cast & Crew of X-Play Say Goodbye With Final Episode

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The cast and crew of G4’s long running X-Play have said their final goodbyes to the show according to Blaire Herter’s twitter feed. He wrote the following alongside an image of the cast & crew assembled on stage:

“No better way to wrap X-Play than by surrounding myself with the most extraordinary folks I’ve ever worked with.”

X-Play, formally Extended Play, launched in the late 90s and has survived a staggering three console generations and an entire branding. Former X-Play EIC Adam Sessler left the show this past April to pursue other interests and since then G4 Media have announced that the channel’s game content will be coming to an end this week with the re-launch of the channel in early 2013 as an extension of the Esquire brand.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory Slotted For March Release

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

N.I.S America has announced that the third entry in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory will be released in North America in March of 2013. The game, like the other two main entries in the franchise, will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. No word on an exact release date but they did release several screenshots and a trailer to promote the game.

I’m.. going to try and contain myself like the fangirl that I am and tell you that the Neptunia series is some of the cheekiest and most hilarious satire of the console wars in sometime. Sure, the first game had some issues with grinding and dry combat mechanics, and it got some negative press for both of those, but the sequels are miles better and Victory includes some pretty neat additions.

Check out more after the jump… and N.I.S, JUST TAKE MY MONEY!Read More

Square Enix Announces Star Galaxy

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Square Enix officially announced Star Galaxy. A brand new social game that will work in-tune with your browser of choice. The entire page is mostly in Japanese and it’s was pretty hard to gauge at first read. The trailer that they provided didn’t help matters either with all the Japanese text. But, on the very bottom of the page, it says that the system of choice is Windows 7, Vista and 8. It also works with Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox.

If you head over to the Twitter page, you’ll notice a lot of comments being aimed directly at Star Ocean; and it’s not pretty. Many people seem to be pretty pissed and/or disappointed over the result.

You can view the site here.

Original Story

Are you ready for a new Square Enix game announcement? Well, if you’re not, then you better be. Because Square Enix is about to lift the curtains on a…spacey game. If you head over to the countdown page, you’ll be treated to a new huge picture of space with a bunch of words on the right side. Not to mention the big clock and a Twitter feed running down at the bottom of the clock.

But what will the game be? Given the premise of the space shot, I would bet a lot of money on the game being a new Star Ocean. While the Star Ocean: The Last Hope received average reviews, we question on why they have gone back to the game when only 720,000 people bought the game. Regardless, Square Enix seems to be heading in that direction. We will have details as the announcement happens later in the day. So watch this space!

UPDATE

We’ll be updating this page when the game is announced. So stay right here!

10:09PM  – Ahhh…yeah…we’re still waiting for the big announcement. Twitter is ripping Square to bits… uh oh!

GTA V Trailer 2 Analysis Video

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Let’s talk a bit about a little video game franchise you guys may have heard about.

For those that might not know, my love for all things Grand Theft Auto runs quite deep.  I helped to start GTA Hood, the IGN Grand Theft Auto portal site, and worked there from the beginning until IGN decided to shut all portal sites down earlier this year.  I’ve had the chance to visit Rockstar Games on three different occasions as a result of working with the site, to preview their upcoming games (EfLC expansion/Red Dead Redemption, L. A. Noire and Max Payne 3), and at these fansite events I had a chance to meet and interface with other major players in the Rockstar/GTA fansite world.  When IGN did decide to close the doors of GTA Hood, I knew I wanted to reach out to one of the other fansite owners and see if I could join their ranks.  Long story short, I ended up landing at GTANet, home to GTA game-specific sites and also the owner of GTAForums, the largest GTA forum on the interwebs.

So why am I telling you this?  Why should you care?Read More

Zone of the Enders HD | Review

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Version Tested: Xbox 360 (Also available on PlayStation 3).

In March of 2001, Konami unleashed a new type of game on the world with Zone of the Enders. It was a completely different take on the Mech action genre and hailed as one of the very best the industry had seen. Zone of the Enders was developed by an in-house team at Konami, led by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima. In this version of the game, Zone of the Enders HD features both entries of the original Playstation 2 hits: Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner. Each of these games contain frantic action and great story telling.

But, is Zone of the Enders HD worth your pickup?Read More

Chances are that you find oneself on eBay, glancing at bids and offers that makes the mind conjure up the great auctioning question, “Should I bid on this, even knowing good and well I shouldn’t?” Well then, here is an offer that makes the most of that great question.

A gentleman by the eBay username kaisetsuna has provided an auction for which he is selling the complete Super Nintendo collection that was available in the United States, Canada and Mexico, all for the low, low price of $24,999. So for the price of a new Chevrolet Camaro or the tuition for Texas A&M, one can own 721 Super Nintendo games, some with the original boxes and manuals to match. You not only get perennial classics like Super Mario World, Contra 3: The Alien Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time, but also games no one should even dare play, like Skuljagger: Revolt of the Westicans, Lester the Unlikely, and the worst version of Mortal Kombat.

If you want to bid on it yourself, there is a link right HERE that you can take advantage of, and be the first on your block to have more than enough 16-bit, Mode 7 and even Super FX gaming to take advantage for years.

Get in the Holiday Spirit with a Skyrim Giveaway!

Posted on December 10, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Around the Broken Joysticks offices, it’s beginning to look a lot like SKYRIM-mas!

Bethesda were kind enough to send us a Steam code for the retail release of Skyrim, in addition to an extra Xbox 360 DLC code for the Dragonborn DLC, which we’re currently playing through for review purposes.  So we figured we’d take the time right now to pull together a contest of sorts to get these fantastic products into your hands, dear readers.  Here’s what you have to do:

See, we have this twitter acccount, @brokenjoysticks – we’d love for you to follow that account, and then post something to your twitter feed  – @ us – declaring your desire to get the game.  That’s it.  It’s that simple.  It could be something like “I really hope @brokenjoysticks makes my Christmas by giving me Skyrim!” or “@brokenjoysticks is great because I just KNOW they’re going to give me Skyrim this Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa!”  Things like that.  It might make sense, if you have the game already for 360 and are gunning for the Xbox 360 DLC code, to have your tweet reflect as such.  So you could say “I hope to extend my Skyrim experience with Dragonborn DLC thanks to @brokenjoysticks!”  You get the idea.

The contest is open from right…. NOW, until Wednesday evening, 8:00 PM EST December 12th, when we’ll randomly pick two tweets and give the prizes away that evening or the following morning.  So get folllowing, get @ us, and get a game for free!

Happy Holidays!

(Unfortunately, the contest is only open to North American readers, for compatibility purposes with Steam and Xbox 360.  Sorry about that to all of our international readers!)
