Biomutant Trailer Shows Off Combat, Traversing the World, and a Mech?

Posted on February 19, 2018 by Joshua Rust

Developer Experiment 101 looks like they may have a winner on their hands. If they can deliver on everything they are promising: a one-of-a-kind hero with  a plethora of different gaming mechanics. In this new video, they show off some of these things such as using the crossbow to traverse the land, a glider, there’s even a mech!  This is probably one of my most anticipated titles of 2018. It looks a bit Fable-ish and Zelda-ish, but with a whole new, different kind of hero. Can Experiment 101 deliver us a new classic, it’s quite possible. See the video below and see for yourself!

Biomutant is heading to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC later this year. We’ll keep you updated as soon as a firm release date has been announced.

Former publisher THQ is suing EA as well as UFC brand owner Zuffa, claiming EA garnered details from purchase negotiations in order to dismantle and undermine THQ’s relationship with Zuffa.

Crytek USA Looking To Buy Darksiders Rights

Posted on March 29, 2013 by Les Major

Fans of the Darksiders series may still have hope yet as Crytek USA looks into buying the franchises rights. Crytek USA is company made up of past employees of Vigil, the studio who created Darksiders in the first place. I definitely hope Darksiders ends up back with it’s creators so we can see the natural intended progression of the series.

Final bids on Darksiders and several other THQ series such as Red Faction and Homeworld are due by April 15th. MX is also being sold seperately like the previously mentioned titles while two bundles of additional titles are being sold together such as Destroy All Humans! and Summoner that make up the internal bundle.

While we’re on the topic, I really hope Red Faction gets picked up! The Geomod engine is a fantastic tool which I’d assume would come included in the sale. I couldn’t get enough of Red Faction: Guerrilla!

Darksiders Is Finally Set To Be Auctioned Off…Along With Other THQ Properties

Posted on February 27, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It’s never easy hearing about a publisher, developer, or anyone in the gaming industry (let alone anyone at all) lose their jobs. Such was the case with THQ as the publishing titan came crashing down. Speculation could be pointed at their failed attempt to make uDraw the next big thing, but just one thing isn’t the cause of their unfortunate demise.

Just a short while ago most of the bigger name franchises were auctioned off, such as Saint’s Row, Homefront, & Metro. To my biggest surprise, Darksiders was nowhere on the list of being picked up by anyone. Granted the second game wasn’t that much different that the first one, but it was a solid game.

It looks like Darksiders will get a second chance at redemption as the rest of THQ’s properties will auctioned off soon and will be in their new homes before the end of April. Here’s hoping that Platinum Games picks up Darksiders…I’m willing to bet they could pull off an amazing sequel. I really wouldn’t mind someone picking up Full Spectrum Warrior as well and making a sequel/do-over.

For a full list of all the properties that are up for grabs, keep reading after the break.

EA Sidelines Medal of Honor Franchise

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

I hope you don’t have your hopes up for a third modern Medal of Honor game. During last week’s investor’s call EA Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore announced that the publisher will be moving in a different direction in regards to their annual FPS release. Surely it had something to do with poor sales or an absolutely devastating meta critic score.

While on the call Mr.Moore explained that Medal of Honor will be removed from Electronic Art’s bi-annual rotation, although he did not offer specifics as to what will replace it. Considering that Crytek, developer of the ever impressive Crysis series, just purchased the HomeFront IP after the demise of THQ, EA will partner them to thwart another North Korean invasion.

Did you enjoy Medal of Honor Warfighter? Speak out in the comments section, because as fellow Broken Joysticks Founder Eric will tell you, he quite enjoyed the game.

We’ve got a quote from the call after the jump.

The 2012 Top Five

Posted on January 15, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Editor’s note: Staff at Broken Joysticks will be sharing their top five games, or game related stories, from 2012 throughout the week. We’re continuing the feature with the top five from our editor, kashhoward.

For me, 2012 was a year with many games I anticipated releasing to great success, and some falling short due to various choices. Since I’m always playing fighters, it’s less common for me to purchase the newest games. While I had to omit some games that I never got to play from my list, here are my top five games of 2012.

Metro: The Last Light Limited Edition Detailed

Posted on December 14, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Metro: The Last Light is poised for a March 2013 release and if you haven’t went to pre-order this game yet, you might be more entitled to do so now. As of today, THQ has announced that all pre-orders will automatically be upgraded to the Limited Edition of Metro: The Last Light.

What does this limited edition include you may ask? Well, it will include a harder difficulty mode known as “Ranger Mode”. For those familiar with the first game, Ranger Mode is insanely hard – one hit by a bullet will kill you. Not only that, you don’t have a HUD and pick-ups have less quantities of ammunition. But, players were also entitled to 3x damage with their own weapons. Sounds like fun huh?

As you can tell from the above picture, you also get Extra Military Grade Bullets which are essential for either trading or killing enemies quickly and effectively.  In addition, you also receive the Modified Russian Rifle which is ideal for “claustrophobic combat.” Oh yes!

So what are you waiting for? Really, what are you waiting for! Go pre-order Metro: The Last Light and get the FREE Limited Edition upgrade. I’m expecting this game to stand out a lot more that its predecessor (which was a really solid, under-the-radar hit). You definitely need to check this out! Here is a trailer if you need a little more persuasion.

Metro: The Last Light “Genesis” Trailer Comes Into The Light

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

If you haven’t played Metro 2033 from 4A Games you are missing out on one of the greatest hidden gems on the Xbox 360 console. While it averaged a favorable reception from critics (earning a 77/100 on Metacritic across 83 reviewers), I still believe it’s one of the best un-established games that has come out in this generation of consoles. For those that haven’t played it, THQ is offering up a free steam code by “liking” their Facebook page – but the quantities are limited so hurry!

So apparently it did so well that it justified a sequel and rightly so! For those unfamiliar with the lore of this game, it is adapted from Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro 2033. For more information about the book, you can check out this wiki page. For those of you who have played the first game, I’m interested to hear what you thought about the first game and which ending you did?

Now, onto the trailer from the sequel – Metro: The Last Light

While an exact date hasn’t been narrowed down just yet, Metro: The Last Light is expected to launch March 2013.

Troubling times are still apparent at THQ, despite the current releases of Darksiders 2 and the more recent WWE ‘13. (Check out our review of WWE ‘13). In a recent report coming from THQ regarding their Fiscal 2nd Quarter Results, the company announced a delay on three of their more anticipated titles: South Park and the Stick of Truth, Metro: Last Light, and Company of Heroes 2.

WWE’13 | Review

Posted on November 4, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Woo Woo Woo You Know It, it’s time for the annual WWE release with WWE’13, developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ. The game was released on October 30th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii consoles. The game is the second of the WWE series of games but the fifteenth overall in the combined series. This review is based on my experiences with the Xbox 360 version of the game. The question now is should you go smell what WWE’13 is cooking? Or avoid it like the rebranding of ECW in 2008. Darksiders 2 DLC ‘Abyssal Forge’ Coming October 30th

Posted on October 24, 2012 by Joshua Rust

The second DLC for Darksiders 2 is set to release next week. If you happened to miss the first DLC, Argul’s Tomb, check out our review here! Releasing on October 30th for 800 MSP will be the Abyssal Forge.

Here is the official description of the DLC:

“The Abyssal Forge is a living machine designed to harness the unfocussed dark power of the Abyss and create the most powerful legendary weapons.

“The Maker who built this abomination, known only as the Mad Smith, was shunned by his own people and sealed away in the Shadow Lands with his creation. However, the forge hasn’t remained dormant all those years of captivity; it has constructed a vast army and now threatens all creation.”

The Abyssal Forge will take place in a “vast swamp-like Shadow Lands”. Which will include “two challenging new dungeons, new enemies, secrets to uncover and unique legendary loot to collect”.

If you have bought the Season Pass, make sure you download it in game that way you don’t buy it twice. Speaking of the Season Pass for Darksiders 2…pay attention to the site as we might have something special for you…

Darksiders 2: Argul’s Tomb Review

Posted on September 26, 2012 by Joshua Rust

When it comes to downloadable content, especially without achievements (yes, I’m an addict), I am cautious when buying certain ones. I like DLC that expands upon a game’s story or content. Unless you pre-ordered the Limited Edition of Darksiders 2, you didn’t get the redeemable code for Argul’s Tomb. Fear not! We are here to offer up our opinion so that can you can make the decision yourself as to whether it’s worth your time and/or money to purchase this expansion. So read on!
