LittleBigPlanet Karting | Review

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

My Sackboy has been getting around lately. Platforming in his own games, duking it out with other Sony stars and  racing. LittleBigPlanet Karting, while usually developed by Media Molecule, was designed by United Front Games, makers of ModNation Racers and Sleeping Dogs. The game was released exclusively on PlayStation 3 with no word if the game will receive a future port on the Vita. Is sackboy a decent racer as he is a platformer? Find outRead More

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim “Dragonborn” DLC Out Tomorrow – New Details

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Joshua Rust

While we are only a few short hours away from the next DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim releasing, that’s not stopping the media from releasing details about it. There are some spoilers to the story, so stop reading if you don’t want to spoil it for yourself. Out of the whole list, there are new Shouts, Spells, Armor, Locations, Houses to buy, and much much more. This looks to be one of the most ambitious downloads that Bethesda has released yet. No release date has been announced for the PS3/PC versions except early 2013, but the Xbox 360 version launches tomorrow for 1600 MSP.

*Note* All of this information has come from a beta tester, so judge it accordingly.

New Shouts

  • Cyclone – creates a small tornado (that is pretty funny to use)
  • Bend Will – force a dragon to fight with you.
  • Dragon Riding – player hasn’t gotten to this one yet.
  • Dragon Aspect – creates the dragon armor from trailer and gives stronger shouts, stronger melee attacks and summon Ancient Dragonborn to fight with you when you get low on health. Can only be used once per day.
  • Battle Fury – like Elemental Fury but for NPCs

Alpha Colony Kickstarter Yields Surprise Twist Ending

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

For those that were fans of the mid-80’s perennial interstellar economical multiplayer game known to many as M.U.L.E., then recently there was some good news. The developers at DreamQuest Games who have worked on a number of titles including Nexuiz and Lego Universe, had spawned a brilliant idea to replicate the classic with modern elements taken from the current generation of turn-based strategy games.

The game itself would be named Alpha Colony, and would usher in a new audience to those who enjoyed such games like Settlers of Catan or Carcassonne, all the while providing a more colorful and family-friendly style on the PC, iOS and Android.  Taking inspiration from other independent developers looking to rally a fan base around a brand-new product with a lack of funding, DreamQuest looked to Kickstarter for some funding and support from the soon-to-be fans. The goal in question would be a meager $50,000 USD, over the course a single month. Starting November 2nd, it would be clear that they could make the Kickstarter goal and fulfill their promises.  Now the bad news.

New Tomb Raider Screens Get Down & Dirty

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Joshua Rust

I have to say that I’m extremely excited to get my hands on the new Tomb Raider game when it launches March 5th, 2013.  I think I have played just about every Tomb Raider game that there is and this one looks like it could live up to the classic, original, Tomb Raider game. Throughout Lara’s history there have been some good incarnations and some really bad ones (yes Angel Of Darkness…I’m looking at you).

So in order to tide you over until Tomb Raider gets here, Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics have released some new screenshots for you to enjoy. Ranging from a weapon, to Lara sneaking around, and even going toe to toe with a wolf – these babies look fantastic. So check them out!

Again, Tomb Raider is expected to launch March 5th, 2013. Who’s ready for it?!

Live A Goomba’s Life In This Animated Short

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Les Major

“First Person Goomba” is an animation made for the Machinima Interactive Film Festival by animator Filipe Costa. While it can seem pretty deep, I’m sure it’s meant to be taken in a light hearted fashion. Don’t worry kids, when you restart a level all those goomba’s are back again. The film festival even allows you to vote for your favourite at MachinimaInteractiveFilmFestival.com (the animation sections seem to be coming soon).

I wish I’d have known about this earlier since I would have liked to participate. Filipe’s animation shows what my friend Jason Nason has been saying for a long time, it’s a shame we don’t have more animation that looks like the in game 3D content that comes with Nintendo titles. If they made a series like this, I’d definitely watch it.

Final Fantasy XIII-3 Features Game Ending Time Management

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Final Fantasy XIII-3 Lightening Returns hopes to turn the series on its head, just a little bit, with a new time management mechanics confirmed by an interview with outlet 4gamer. Square Enix already confirmed earlier in the year that the game would take place over a 13 day time peroid, forcing the player into a time management while focusing on the other parts of the (combat, cutscenes.. um teenage or 20somethings angst??)

Game designer Motomu Toriyama confirmed that one hour in the game takes about one or two hours in real life. This means that each play through is limited to anywhere from 13 to 26 hours and then the game will force an end upon you. Lightening is able to extend the time the game affords her by completing certain side quests or performing certain actions. Does this mean that the game will end ala Majora’s Mask? I am not sure but I can just imagine the moon crashing down on lightening, complete with that creepy face and everything.

Apparently no player should be able to experience all of the cut scenes in the game in one play through.  So get ready to replay the game a few times to ensure you see all of its content.

Tomb Raider “The Final Hours” Episode 3

Posted on December 2, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have been making sure they let you know everything about the upcoming Tomb Raider title that is due out early next year. This week’s edition stars host Zachary Levi and shows off the soundtrack forTomb Raider as composed by Jason Graves.

For those of you who do not know who Jason Graves is, well…you should. Even if you don’t know him, I can almost guarantee that you have played a game that has had his musical expertise implemented in it –  titles like Dead Space, F.E.A.R., Gauntlet, and Star Trek. For a complete list of all the games (and his many many awards) he has had his hand in, check out this site.

(P.S. Video does have an age gate, so you may have to sign in.)

Lego Lord Of The Rings Demo Now Available

Posted on December 2, 2012 by Les Major

It’s been a few weeks since the games release, but now you can adventure into Helm’s Deep to get a feel for Travelers Tales take on the battle. This seems like a great starting point since the Lord of the Rings movies did have great epic battles. It looks like the Lego game counterpart pulls that off quite well. There are some fun new mechanics here that keep up the big moments, such as riding on horseback.

Like Lego Batman 2, Lego LOTR has voice overs for the characters but still sticks with lots of comical movements to tell the story. At first I was put off by the idea of the characters talking. However with more complex storylines or those a player may be unfamiliar with or might have forgotten elements from, the voice overs are a plus.

The demo is out now on PC here, and on Xbox Live and PSN. Read on for the launch trailer.Read More

Archie Comics’ Megaman Is Great

Posted on December 2, 2012 by Les Major

When I bought my first Megaman comics by Archie I was concerned since in most comic stores I was lead to a specific kids section. It made me think the comics would be pretty basic, but that’s actually not true. From the inner conflict Megaman faces during his first battles taking down rampaging robot masters to a convention held hostage by an anti-robot protest group the comics are quite involving!

In 2013 Megaman will be meeting up with Sonic in a 12-part cross over. Written by Ian Flynn it is still unclear how the characters will meet, or on what grounds the story will develop. Ian is very excited about the project and definitely wants to make the most out of this opportunity. So if you’re a Sonic or Megaman fan, keep a look out for it. In the meantime Archie Comics has back issues as well as graphic novels if you want to get caught up on either hero.

The quality of Baldurs Gate is timeless, with many of my friends replaying the games over the years. Now it comes to an entirely new generation with enhancements!

There’s bug fixes corrected from the original, new characters, and a new adventure in The Black Pits! The game also includes some of the mechanics of Baldurs Gate II such as extra classes. On top of that the enhanced edition includes the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. There’s lots of goodies here and a great world to get immersed in. You can pick it up now for $20 on the games website BaldursGate.com.

A few hiccups have been noted on the games support forum, so you may want to check in and make sure you can run the game on your system.

Yesterday, Ubisoft officially released the U-Play app and is now available through the Nintendo Wii-U’s EShop. When the user downloads and installs the application, the user will need to enter a username and password to access special features upon using the application.

Some of the features the user has access to are information of games that Ubisoft releases, rewards, achievements and other content. Some of the content, however is still locked like U-Play TV, friends, and even more interestingly enough the the U-Play shop. When checking the Ubisoft website, these features are listed as Coming Soon.
