Sony Issues Mysterious Credits To Loyal PSN Users Ahead of Press Conference

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Quick, check your PSN account! Did you receive a $5 or $10 voucher from Sony for the PlayStation Store? Several PSN users in North America are reporting (via twitter and NeoGaf) that they have received either of the credits in their PSN wallets as well as a thanks from the company for being a loyal supporter. While we don’t quite know their motive behind this move, perhaps it has something to do with the huge “See The Future” event being held in New York City?

There was also no apparent pattern for who received the credit, with some users reporting that they had the funds added to their account as much as a week ago. Perhaps Sony will be putting something special on the store during their press conference?

It is expected that we will get the first details of the PlayStation 4 at tonight’s event. We will be blogging during the entire event and posting recaps afterward, are you as excited as we are?

Murdered: Soul Suspect Trailer Released

Posted on February 19, 2013 by Joshua Rust

“What is the hardest case to solve?” Well, Square Enix thinks they know the answer with their newly announced upcoming game Murdered: Soul Suspect. It was announced only a few weeks ago, but there has not been much information released on it yet – other than the tagline “What is the hardest case to solve?” and that it is a new Square Enix IP (a developer’s name hasn’t been attached to this project just yet). But today they released a teaser  trailer for you to enjoy!

[youtube id=”V3v3fM9BbQQ” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Of course with little to no details about Murdered: Soul Supsect we can only speculate. I’m hoping for something in the wake of the Sherlock Holmes games, which it could quite fall into that category. Any thoughts on who you think the developer might be? Crystal Dynamics? No release date has been announced, but stay tuned as more information becomes available!

Sony Recaps The Life of PlayStation In 3 New Videos

Posted on February 19, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony’s PlayStation brand has stood the test of time, lasting more than 15 years, despite some out of the gate hiccups with the current generation. It is widely rumored that the PlayStation 4 will be unveiled tomorrow at the “See The Future” event in New York City. To drum up excitement Sony released a series of four retrospective videos on their YouTube channel highlighting various accomplishments. Were you around for the launch of the original PlayStation in ’95?

Each video only runs about 2 minutes and length and while they are slickly produced they do kind of gloss over a few things. Aside from the PS Video, most of them are recaps of the system’s launch with some PR sales number and hit game titles thrown into the mix. The accomplishment of games key to the systems’ success such as Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot and the PS2-era JRPGs are only glossed over, in a favor of news footage. Seems like a bit of a lost opportunity.

Regardless of their content, it is neat to look back and reminisce about everything Playstation. Check out the videos after the jump.Read More

Even Oddworld’s Just Add Water Wants FantaSize 2 To Succeed!

Posted on February 16, 2013 by Les Major

In a completely unexpected turn of events for the FantaSize 2 animation campaign I’m personally running over on IndieGoGo, JAW tweeted the above after learning about it from a fan. The crowdfunding campaign is in it’s last hours with only six hours remaining and very little left to raise to it’s goal! Definitely a huge thanks to JAW for the tweet! Here’s to hoping we reach our goal before time runs out!

PS4 Controller Prototype Images Emerge

Posted on February 15, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

We’ve done a lot of reporting on the PlayStation 4 these past few weeks and now it looks like images from the unannounced system’s development kit are starting to pop up all around the web. From destructoid to gametrailers, anonymous sources have given the world its first look at two different prototypes for the PS4’s controller.

The controllers design pays homage to the Dualshock design of the past and, as rumored, adds a touch sensitive pad, similar to the one on the back of the PlayStation Vita, to the face of the controller. The grips on the controller, as well as the overall casing, look a little more ergonomic and rounded. Commentators have also pointed out that the sticks also feature indented thumb-sticks, but this could be a result of Sony using cheaper parts to prototype their controller. Both controllers plugged in via USB but they were both said to be early prototypes, one featuring the distinct glow featured on the PlayStation Move.

Sony is expected to unveil the PS4 at their “See The Future” event in New York city on Feb 20th. Check out a picture of the prototype controller after the jump.Read More

Naughty Dog Delays The Last of Us Until June 14th

Posted on February 13, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The wait for Naughty Dog’s Ps3 exclusive post-apocalyptic action game The Last of Us is about to get a little longer with the announcement that the game is now due out on June 14th 2013.

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog, made a post announcing the delay on the PlayStation Blog this morning. Citing the fact that the extra few weeks will allow the studio to continue to polish the game, he promised it would allow them to stick to their original vision without cutting corners.

Interestingly the game is scheduled just after E3 2013 is scheduled to run, from June 11th through the 13th. We already know that the PS4 will be unveiled well before the convention; perhaps The Last of US will be one last hurrah for Sony’s seven year old platform.

Are you excited for the The Last of Us? The first hands-on previews of the game came a little while back but other than that things have been relatively quiet. Perhaps SCEA and Naughty Dog will scare up a new trailer soon.

Check out a quote from the PlayStation blog after the jump.Read More

Next Xbox Runs Multiple Games At Once, Requires Kinect

Posted on February 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The race towards the next-generation is heating up, and whether or not Sony or Microsoft will acknowledge it, gamers will get their first tastes of their next home consoles in just a few short weeks with Sony’s “see the future” press event in New York City. Out of Kotaku comes a huge expose exploring some of the options developers are playing with in regards to the Xbox 720/ Xbox Durango (henceforth referred to as simply ‘Durango’).

We already knew a ton about the innards of the machine, powered by a custom AMD APU, but we didn’t really know about mandatory game installations, forced Kinect connectivity, a tweaked controller and the ability to run multiple games at once. If even 50% of these new ‘facts’ are true things are going to be mighty interesting come this fall.Read More
