God of War Ascension Teaser Trailer Leaked

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Kratos has spent five games defeating the Greek gods and now he’s back for even more blood fueled vengeance in the sixth title in the series, God of War: Ascension. Confirmed by Sony last night, and leaked online by retailers earlier in the day, Ascension will see Kratos return to the PlayStation 3 after his 2010 outing on the Playstation Portable.

Confirmation of the game’s existence isn’t the only blood soaked treat we’ve got to enjoy. A teaser trailer for the game leaked online last night as well. Ascension serves a prequel to the previous three console games. Will Ascension possibly showing a much calmer Kratos? I highly doubt that! Kratos will probably solve his disputes with grotesque violence rather than words.

Check out the trailer after the jump.Read More

Mount & Blade Enters the Napoleonic Era

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Paradox Interactive has just released a Napoleonic Wars DLC for Mount and Blade Warband. Mount & Blade Warband: Napoleonic Wars retails for $9.99. Those who pick up the DLC will get over two hundred new units to play with, including player controlled artillery, as well as massive 250 person multiplayer battles. The Napoleonic Era is probably a good choice for the series, as it’s the most modern setting that would work well with Mount and Blade’s signature mounted combat.

Unfortunately for fans of the Mount and Blade series’ open ended single player campaigns, this DLC is multiplayer only. So, you won’t be able to rampage across a map of Europe for L’empereur.  You’ll find a full list of the DLC’s features after the trailer.

Air Conflict: Secret Wars Released On Xbox Live

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest title published by Kalypso Media, Air Conflicts: Secret Wars, has been released on to Xbox Live according to the publisher. If you’re looking to let out your inner pilot you can do so for a mere 1600 Microsoft Points ($15 USD).

Air Conflict is an arcade style flight combat game that spans both World War 1 and World War 2. Boasting seven campaigns, 49 missions, and varying objectives like bombing runs and hit & runs on targets. Air Conflict seems like it would appeal to both military fanatics (I’m looking at you fellow Broken Joysticks Staffer Daniel Shannon!) and casual flight fans.

If this sounds up your alley why not download the trial? It’s free and can be accessed from Xbox.com.

War in the east patched

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Publishers Matrix Games and Slitherine have announced a patch for Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945, a gargantuan wargame from 2by3 Games. I’m personally afraid to play this game, because fighting it out on the Eastern front at a 10 mile per hex scale is inherently intimidating. That’s a lot of hexes to occupy before you even get into the nitty gritty of logistics, political reliability of units, etc. It’s the type of thing that would either break me or consume every free second of my time. Those braver than me can check out what the patch fixes, which also affect the game’s Don to the Danube expansion, below.

Arma 3 Stratis Trailer Released

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Bohemia Interactive has just announced that Arma 3 will launch with an additional island for you to fiddle about on. The fictional island of Stratis is situated in the North Aegean Sea, and it brings an extra 19 square kilometers of potential military tomfoolery to Arma 3.  It’s tiny in comparison to Arma 3’s main island of Limnos, which covers about 300 square kilometers. However, it’s always possible that Limnos may get old, so an additional environment to roll over with a T-80 or evade hunters on as a doomed goat is welcome.

The inclusion of an additional island probably isn’t much of a surprise to fans of the military sandbox series as each game had at least a couple of different areas to play in. The trailer showcasing the major sights in Stratis may be viewed below.

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Matthew Regier

According to Rhode Island news station WPRI by the NDP Group, a majority of these sales numbers came from the first month of release, with 80 000 being sold last month. These sales numbers do not reflect digital sales or sales outside of the United States.

NDP spokesperson David Riley made the comment, “an impressive figure for just two months, no matter how you slice it”. This proves that a new IP is able to get its foot firmly in the door in this generation of established names in the industry.

Miyamoto Confirms Super Mario Land 4 In Development

Posted on April 18, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

When gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto speaks the entire gaming landscape pauses for a second and listens. With rumors circulating that Super Mario 4 would be announced this year, more than 20 years after the release of Super Mario 3 on the Nintendo Entertainment System, people took notice.

Speaking to Korean website BetaNews the man himself confirmed that the game was under development. Unfortunately outside of those details he offered little else.

“We have Mario team in company, so we are making Super Mario 4. But only I can say is, we just announced that game. More details will be revealed later.”

Perhaps an E3 2012 reveal? Word has been that this will be the big “coming out” party for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U.

Darksiders II Delayed Until August

Posted on April 18, 2012 by Matthew Regier

It won’t be until August now when we see Vigil Game’s highly anticipated sequel, Darksiders II. The game will be facing a two month delay from its initial release date at the end of June, so we will be seeing the title hit shelves sometime in August. Executive vice president of THQ, Danny Bilson is stressing that the delay is only to add polish to the title.

After a rather shaky year in 2011 many would think that this delay means bad news, but is actually quite the opposite. Ever since Saints Row 3 has officially shipped over four million copies, the company has been able to adjust their losses for the Q4 sales expectations, they are able to squeeze in the extra development time for what is being said to be a much larger game than its predecessor.

Posted on April 17, 2012 by Eric Regier

The next installment in the Halo franchise launches this fall and will mark the first time since 2007’s Halo 3 that Master Chief will be playable as the main character.

In the work shop since 2009 by 343 Industries, this will be their first full release Halo title. With Halo Waypoint downloadable for the 360 and Windows phone first under their belt, then went on to make the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Former Bungie employee Frank O’Connor is leading the development of the project it shouldn’t be straying too far from its roots.

Bethesda Announces The Elder Scrolls: Assassin’s Creed

Posted on April 17, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Okay, not really but that is what a lot of people are going to think when they watch the announcement trailer for Arkane Studio’s Dishonored, a first person sci-fi action game.

What we know about the story is that your main protagonist, Quartho,  an assassin framed for the murder of some Empress. And has he ever got a desire for a whole truck load of vengeance. The setting appears to be of the dystopian calibur showing imagery one would expect to see in a Half Life game, or in War of the Worlds. Showing a soldier on mechanical stilts shooting a flaming arrow into then street.

Prototype 2 Gameplay Walkthrough

Posted on April 17, 2012 by Matthew Regier

After the release of Radical Entertainment’s Prototype back in 2009 many fans and have been anxiously awaiting the release of the game’s sequel, Prototype 2. Which has promised to improve many of the more lackluster elements of the game. Well, a gameplay walkthrough has been revealed showing off a section of the game and some very sleek and stylish new elements by the game’s design director Matt Armstrong.

The short, but satisfying six minute video does a great job of showing off the games elements and style. We see our new protagonist, James Heller, near the beginning of the game infiltrating a Black Watch base with the ability to flawlessly disguise as enemies, as well as showing off how the AI reacts to this new appearance by frightening nearby civilians. It doesn’t take long into the video to show off the exciting combat gameplay by showing us a boss fight and some of the abilities you will get.
