Posted on April 17, 2012 by Matthew Regier

After the recent announcement of Project X Zone, the collaboration project between Capcom, Namco, and Sega many fans have been speculating what the game is going to be about and what characters we will be seeing. We are now that much closer to getting more information revealed with the launch of the game’s official website which can be viewed here.

Unfortunately nothing about the story or game’s system has been revealed, but according to the screenshots found on the site we can see that it appears to be a fighting game with a sprite based art style and a very smooth manga-esque style for cut away supers (as seen by Ryu charging up a shinku-hadouken).

Electronic Arts Set To Lay Off Up To 1000

Posted on April 16, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Electronic Arts has announced  a companywide lay off from between 500-1000 people. A number that will result in having 5%-11%  of their staff back out on the job market. This lay off was originally planned to happen last Monday (4/9) but was pushed back. It has been confirmed that they are coming very soon however.

After EA’s plummeting stock prices dropping from a once lofty $61 per share has recently fallen to $16 per share. While being speculated to keep falling. This is believed to have been caused by 2011 not having as many big blockbuster hits aside from Battlefield 3,  highly underwhelming success from Star Wars: The Old Republic, and high marketing costs. Additionally The Consumerist naming the company as the “Worst Company In America” recently, may have the higher ups considering some restructuring.

Capcom Announces Lost Planet 3

Posted on April 13, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom has announced the next entry in the Lost Planet franchise will be heading to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime early next year. The game centers around protagonist Jin, who accepts a hazardous contract on the planet EDN III. He is part of a pioneering force sent to the plant to prepare it for colonization.

Lost Planet 3 aims to return to the series roots, that means braving an ever changing climate and collecting resourcesto keep yourself from succumbing to mother nature. It wouldn’t be a Lost Planet title with the presence of fierce arachnids and the abolity to blow them away with a mech suit.

If you’re aching to kick some arachnid before LP3 ships in 2013 you could always pick up for the first two, or check out the trailer and screenshots CapCom have released after the jump. Read More

Free DLC released for Wargame: European Escalation

Posted on April 12, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Wargame: European Escalation, the “Cold War goes Hot” themed RTS from Eugen Systems, has just received its first downloadable content pack. The free “New Battlefields” DLC adds skirmish AI, a feature that was sorely missed in the original game by fans of “comp stomping.” Other features include seven additional maps and a “flare” system that will allow players to place a message on the tactical map. This could be useful in multiplayer if you are, say, being overrun by dozens of T-72s.

Prepare To Shout Kamhamha With Dragon Ball Z Kinect

Posted on April 11, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Akira Toriyama’s hammy long running anime series Dragon Ball Z will be shouting its way on to Xbox 360 Kinect this October thanks to Namco Bandai and Funimation, the holders of the western license for DBZ. This new game is the fourth iteration on Microsoft’s latest home console after Burst Limit and Raging Blast 1 & 2.

Dragon Ball Z Kinect boasts over 100 different moves mapped to various physical movements. Developer Spike Chunsoft has included brand new high definition footage that has never been included in a North American or European DBZ titles.

I’m guessing this game will increase the number of people screaming “Kamhamha” at their televisions tenfold. Hopefully we’ll get more information on Dragon Ball Z Kinect soon.

Assassins Creed 3 More Desmond-Centric Than Ever

Posted on April 5, 2012 by Kirk Williford

Assassins Creed 3 Lead Writer Matt Turner recently told CVG that the upcoming Ubisoft title will feature more Desmond than previous Assassins Creed installations.

“All I can say about Desmond’s story is you’re going to experience more Desmond than you’ve ever had before,” Turner said. “We’re spending more time on the present than we have in past games.”

Ubisoft has been quiet on the status of Desmond in AC3, mainly focusing on the reveal of the Revolutionary War protagonist Connor Kenway. Turner promised that in addition to more Desmond sequences, there will be more present-day events and connections compared to other AC games.

Assassin’s Creed 3 is scheduled to launch on October 30th, 2012 — stay tuned to Broken Joysticks as we’ll bring you more on the game as it’s announced.

Yesterday | Review

Posted on April 5, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

If Tim Schaffer’s Kickstarter campaign wasn’t proof enough that the point and click adventure genre is not dead, then we have a new contender. Yesterday was developed by Pendulo Studios, a company who clearly still believes in and loves the point and click genre. Yesterday will take you on a wild journey; you will discover lost secrets hidden for centuries.  Yesterday is a game for fans of point and click adventures with a strong narrative, if story is not your thing you have come to the wrong game (and possibly the wrong writer).Read More
