Dolphin Emulator

The fifth version of the Dolphin Wii / Gamecube emulator was released just prior to this weekend and it packs a number of enhancements that will surely have the emulation community ecstatic for the foreseeable future. Version 5 is the first major release in sometime, Dolphin 4.0 was finalized all the way back in September 2013.

A bump up in version number isn’t superfluous, the developers behind have used the last 24+ months to increase the emulation of hundreds of titles – improving everything from shadow accuracy, texture loading to how audio is handled by both the emulated system and physically connected Wiimotes!

Alongside the release of Dolphin 5.0 the developers have also released a YouTube video documenting and visually demonstrating the positive impact all of these enhancements will have for users.

Here is a small list of some of the major improvements:

  • Increased Shadow Accuracy
  • Texture Loading Fixes
  • Texture Environment Fixes
  • Depth Emulation Fixes
  • Progressive Scan Functions Properly In All Games
  • Proper System Menu Emulation (Wii)
  • Audio / Video Timing Issues Fixed
  • Wiimote Plus Can Now Connect On Windows 8
  • Compatibility with hundreds of games improved due to Zfreeze implementations
  • Supports controllers, wavebirds, third party controllers and bongos without the need for button configuration.

Pandora’s Tower Shipping Today And New Trailer

Posted on April 16, 2013 by Les Major

The Wii is getting a new JRPG today and we’re eager to see Xseed’s latest title! Following the journey of Aeron as he collects the flesh of boss monsters known as masters to free the cursed Elena from turning into a monster herself. It’s a bit of a grusome task since she must eat the flesh of these monsters to break the curse. Definitely it’s a twist on the regular story line of saving a maiden in distress. Pandora’s Tower Dated for April 16th

Posted on April 3, 2013 by Jason Nason

Nearly two years after hitting Wiis in Japan, Pandora’s Tower will hit North American Wii systems in just a few weeks. XSEED Games has finsihed localizing the game and the Wii-exclusive JRPG will hit store shelves on April 16.

Developed in Japan by Ganbarion together with Nintendo, Pandora’s Tower takes the familiar maiden in distress theme and turns it on its head, asking the protagonist to slay over a dozen giant monsters and collect their flesh in order to lift a curse that has befallen his lover.Read More

First U.S. Trailer For Pandora’s Tower

Posted on March 11, 2013 by Les Major

The folks at Xseed are bringing Pandora’s Tower states side and it’s sounding good! Personally I like the voice acting in this first U.S. version trailer. The story focuses on A young ex-mercenary named Aeron trying to break the curse on Elena, a singer his heart has been pledged to. She will turn into a monster unless Aeron can obtain the flesh of twelve masters in the towers, seemingly the ones located in The Scar. Elena must then eat their flesh to break the curse. In the trailer, she looks realistically hesitant when faced with this task.

Set to be released in April, Pandora’s Tower was developed in Japan by Ganbarion in conjunction with Nintendo, exclusively for Wii. Read on for the trailer.Read More

Canada Is Thinking Smaller With The Wii Mini On December 7

Posted on November 27, 2012 by Seung Lee

Nintendo has officially confirmed that Canada will be receiving the Wii Mini: a $99.99 version of the Wii, but with no GameCube compatibility, no Internet connectivity, and less size. The whole package will come with a red Nunchuk, a red Wiimote Plus controller, power adapter, sensor bar, and standard composite cable. Canadians can expect the Wii Mini to arrive on December 7, just in time for some early holiday shopping.

You can definitely tell that the Wii Mini is all about cashing in on the holiday shopping craze (note the red motif and cheap pricing). The strange thing is, however, that the Wii Mini (so far) will only be available in Canada this year. Will the rest of the world ever see the Wii Mini? Time will only tell, but I would rather save up, and put the cash towards a Wii U that can actually play both Wii and Wii U games, alongside a boatload of other features.

Check out Nintendo’s official announcement of the Wii Mini here.

Ubisoft Were The Big Winners of Amazon’s Black Friday Weekend

Posted on November 26, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

With Black Friday sales currently being tallied up at the writing of this article, one fact has been confirmed, Ubisoft have been successful this past weekend on arguably the best online store on the Internet. According to data from Cowen & Company, the French video game company pulled away with massive sales this Black Friday weekend, with Just Dance and Assassin’s Creed III in the top 20. On record, the Just Dance franchise have always had a title at the top of the most sold game on Black Friday weekend, and this happenstance is no different.

December might just be 31 days, but it accounts to a quarter of annual video game software sales in the U.S., which are undoubtedly vital for publishers to factor in when capitalizing in on the days after Thanksgiving.

Other factors worth noting is ten Xbox 360 games made the top 20 list, the oldest game on the list is technically Gran Turismo 5 (XL Edition) as it was reduced to ten dollars for the weekend, and even the previous iteration of Just Dance for the Wii even squeezed onto the list.  This list of top sellers from Amazon.com are listed below.

Estimated top-selling video games on Amazon.com, as of November 23-25:

  • Just Dance 4 (Wii)
  • Assassin’s Creed III (Xbox 360)
  • Halo 4 (Xbox 360)
  • Assassin’s Creed III (PS3)
  • Dishonored (Xbox 360)
  • Madden NFL 13 (Xbox 360)
  • FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3)
  • FIFA Soccer 13 (Xbox 360)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Xbox 360)
  • Just Dance 4 (Xbox 360)
  • Madden NFL 13 (PS3)
  • Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (PS3)
  • Dishonored (PS3)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
  • Dance Central 3 (Xbox 360)
  • Skylanders Giants (Wii)
  • God of War Saga (PS3)
  • Just Dance 3 (Wii)
  • Lego Lord of the Rings (Xbox 360)

Nintendo Wii U is Region Locked

Posted on September 24, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Oh, Nintendo. Why do you go and make something awesome and then decide to pull things like this. If you have been catching up on the latest and greatest news on the Nintendo Wii U, then you will know that Famitsu just put out an article regarding the Wii U.

They have reported that Nintendo’s newest addition to your living room not feature the ability to play games outside of the US and Canada. So, if you want to play your Nintendo Wii U games from Japan, you’ll need to buy a Japanese Wii U in order to play them. This is very typical Nintendo as both the original Wii and the Nintendo 3DS are all region locked.

If you’re an avid collector of European or Japanese games, then I’m sure you’re just as disappointed as I am with this development.

Nintendo Wii U releases on November 18th, 2012 here in the States and will start at $299.99.

No Nintendo Wii U News in September?

Posted on August 29, 2012 by Jason Bassett

If you got to watch the Nintendo Direct this morning, we bet you were probably a little disappointed by the outcome: No Wii U information. You did get a slew of new 3DS information, however. But, today Nintendo president: Satora Iwata killed any hope that information will be during the conference on his Twitter (if you can read that, then you are a wizard) feed:

There are more than a few people who are thinking, ‘There will be a Nintendo Conference in September.’ I want to tell you in advance that the announcement of the Wii U in Japan is planned in a way not involving the Conference.”

Now, this certainly doesn’t mean that there won’t be any news around the time of the conference, but we do know that there won’t be any information during the conference. It should be noted that Nintendo may plan to show only software during it’s conference and leaving information about the hardware using their Nintendo Direct service.

Only time will tell what’s on the minds over at Nintendo.

Rumor: Nintendo Wii U Launch Date Leaked? [UPDATED]

Posted on August 27, 2012 by Jason Bassett

UPDATE:
Kotaku has an update to a story they posted about the Nintendo Wii U release. PDP Community Manager: Candice Hinton wrote:

“At this time we can’t confirm Nintendo’s dates and we don’t know exactly what was heard, but we simply do not know that this point. We are launching accessories, but the date for the accessories doesn’t mean a confirmation on the hardware. If you seek confirmation on the date that is something that is going to need to go specifically though Nintendo, but we can’t confirm or deny dates on any of their hardware.”

Original Story:
The news on the newest Nintendo device has all of us scratching at the bit for any new information that Nintendo will at throw us. Well, now, we may have found out one of the biggest pieces of the Nintendo Wii U puzzle: It’s release date.

Today, during the Gamestop Manager’s meeting, a video game peripheral manufacturer gave us the goods on upcoming hardware for the Wii U. It also, may have inadvertently showed the release date for the console? So, what did it say on the trusty slide? November 18th, 2012. This date fits perfectly for Nintendo.Read More

Madden NFL 13 | Review

Posted on August 24, 2012 by Seung Lee

Just as the sun always comes up in the morning, there’s a new Madden game out every year. Back when Madden NFL 12 was released, I heard some people mutter the words, “another year, another Madden.” Admittedly, I haven’t played a Madden game in a while (in fact, the last game I played was 2005!), but this year’s edition definitely feels like it tries to break the mold that’s built up on the franchise over the years.

Celebrate The Olympics With NBA 2K13

Posted on August 15, 2012 by Seung Lee

It’s the 20th anniversary of the USA’s “Dream Team” for the Basketball event at the Olympics, and 2K Games is celebrating by including the 1992 and 2012 teams in NBA 2K13. Jay-Z, the executive producer behind 2K13, states that he made the decision to have these two crews in the game so that people could settle “one of the greatest sports debates of our time.”

I’ve never heard people hype up the 2012 team, and probably for good reason. You just can’t compete against people like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Scottie Pippen. Although, Pippen appears to be absent in the featured image above with the 1992 team.

NBA 2K13 will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, PC, and Wii on October 2, 2012. Check out the game’s official website here.
