EA Sidelines Medal of Honor Franchise

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

I hope you don’t have your hopes up for a third modern Medal of Honor game. During last week’s investor’s call EA Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore announced that the publisher will be moving in a different direction in regards to their annual FPS release. Surely it had something to do with poor sales or an absolutely devastating meta critic score.

While on the call Mr.Moore explained that Medal of Honor will be removed from Electronic Art’s bi-annual rotation, although he did not offer specifics as to what will replace it. Considering that Crytek, developer of the ever impressive Crysis series, just purchased the HomeFront IP after the demise of THQ, EA will partner them to thwart another North Korean invasion.

Did you enjoy Medal of Honor Warfighter? Speak out in the comments section, because as fellow Broken Joysticks Founder Eric will tell you, he quite enjoyed the game.

We’ve got a quote from the call after the jump.

Mass Effect Invades Dead Space 3

One of the benefits of big companies is the potential for cross promotion within their owned franchises. Dead Space and Mass Effect have joined up to bring you a set of N7 Armor to Dead Space 3.

So what’s the catch?

Nothing really, the only thing you need are:

1) Play Mass Effect 3 and have a save file

2) Purchase and play the full game for Dead Space 3

3) Unlock your awesome N7 Armor

Electronic Arts and Visceral Games were nice enough to drop a trailer showing off the N7 Armor, so check it out!

Dead Space 3’s Terrifying $160 Dev Team Edition Detailed

Posted on January 13, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Looking for forward to EA’s Dead Space 3? Well, the publisher has unveiled the $160, Dev Team Edition, for the most hardcore necromorph hunters out there.  For an entry price like that you’ll get the game on your platform of choice (PS3, Xbox 360 or PC),  an 8 inch Black Marker statue, a Med Pack Water Bottle, 20 page note book filled with extra lore, an art book and post cards.

There was a time when Collector’s Editions of blockbuster videogames were a little daunting with almost every triple AAA title releasing an version that costs nearly double the price. Luckily things have slowed down a bit, save for the Halos, Dead Spaces and Call of Duties of the world.

Are you a fan of limited edition games? I’ve personally bought the Halo 3 limited edition (with Cat Helmet!) and the limited edition Gears of War 3 steel box, but little else. If the Dead Space 3 Dev Team Edition sounds up your alley get more information on EA’s website.

New Fuse Trailer Goes Into Story Mode

Posted on December 19, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Fuse, which was previously called Overstrike, is Insomniac Games first stab at bringing a game to the Xbox 360 console. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, well it should – they are responsible for the ever popular Resistance series on the Playstation 3. I’m excited to see Insomniac go multiplatform and bring their talent to everyone on all different gaming systems.

So, Fuse was announced back in June 2011 and there really hasn’t been a lot of details beside the information on the characters and the official trailer. So today Insomniac Games has released a story trailer to give a bit of information on what the storyline will be based around. Enjoy!

Fuse currently doesn’t have an exact release date, but it is expected to release Spring 2013.

Mass Effect 4 Coming Late 2014 – Mid 2015 (Update)

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Update 12/13/12: This is why we state it was a “mystery source” as now the Gamer Syndrome article that was posted was pulled today with the site stating:

“This interview has been removed. The information provided previously by the author of this post was deemed to be obtained from an inaccurate source and NOT an official Bioware or EA interview response. We apologize for the inconvinience.”

So there we have it folks. If new information comes into the light, we will be here to share it with you. At least we do know that Mass Effect 4 is in development now.

Original Story

An unnamed Bioware dev gave Gamer Syndrome an interesting update on what the status of Mass Effect 4. This mystery source states that:

“Fans can expect a similar style of choices and action that they’ve come to know in Mass Effect. Casey Hudson is very much involved in the new Mass Effect game, as well as many from Edmonton. BioWare Montreal is a great studio and they did fantastic with the multiplayer for Mass Effect 3, so fans should know the series is in good hands,” they said.

“You’ll hear more about the new Mass Effect game in 2013.”

So, we are pretty sure that this game will definitely be next-gen and almost 100% that it will run on the Frostbite 2 engine – which was created for Dragon Age 3.

I’m personally hoping that they let you pick from different races then have the storyline alter depending on what race you pick. I can dream, but regardless: I’m ready for Mass Effect 4, Dragon Age 3, and the next generation to get here! What would you all like to see implemented in the next iteration of Mass Effect? Please don’t say competitive multiplayer…please!

Dragon Age III Bound For The Next Generation of Consoles?

Posted on November 28, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Rumors, reported by Kotaku, state that Electronic Art’s next entry in the Dragon Age franchise, Dragon Age III, has shifted focused to the as unannounced Xbox 720 and PS4 rather this current generation of consoles. The source for this rumor is a LinkedIN profile for a former employee of Bioware who worked on the game as a level designer. This platform shift apparently will cause the game to be delayed from a late 2013 launch window to sometime in 2014.

Kotakue reports that the unnamed employee wrote on their social resume:

“Scope of the DAIII has been chaged [sic], which will target next gen platform [sic] and will be postpone [sic] to 2014.”

If DAIII was released two years from now would that spur your decision to jump into the next generation? Let us know in the comments below.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition Details & Concept Art

Posted on October 22, 2012 by Joshua Rust

There have been rumors of what’s to come in Dragon Age III: Inquisition. Here are some new details that we know for sure.

– It has been in pre-production longer than Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, or Mass Effect 2.

– Cinematic designer Jon Perry states that “one level in DA3 is big as all levels in DA2.

– There is a possibility that you will be able to own/control your own tower

– It will feature character customisation “in a big way” including “follower customisation”

– “The storytelling legacy BioWare is known for, with deep RPG gameplay, all on a brand new RPG game engine underpinned by EA’s critically-acclaimed Frostbite 2 technology”

– You will play as a human as you did in the second game (which I find disappointing..but oh well)

While it did manage to bring new players to the franchise, a lot of people felt that Dragon Age 2 was a major letdown. I’m truly hoping this one will be a bit better.

Here is some of the concept art from the game, including the potential castle that you may be able to control.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition was announced last month, it is expected to launch late Fall 2013.

Mass Effect 4 Will Be ‘Shepard’-less

Posted on October 19, 2012 by Joshua Rust

That’s right everyone – Shepard will not make it to Mass Effect 4 (or the equivalent name to the next game). In a recent interview, art and design producer Fabrice Condominas from BioWare Montreal, told VG247:

“There is one thing we are absolutely sure of – there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over.

“This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don’t even know what kind of time frame we’re going to be in. All we’re doing is more gathering ideas from the teams.

“So first, we don’t want to make ‘Shepard 2′, or Mass Effect 4 with like, ‘oh there’s no more Shepard but you’re a soldier in the universe’. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest.”

Personally, I’d like to see you be able to choose the race you want to start with. Then have the story cater around the race you have chosen through dialogue and the storyline. For instance if you were a Krogan and you had to go to the Salarian’s for help, you might have to do extra things to convince them to help you – or vice versa. Or you could just kill them all and take what you wanted…after all, when will a Krogan ever ask a Salarian for help?

But that was just an example of how Bioware could open up the missions to a whole new complexity. What are your thoughts?

Mass Effect 3: Omega – Biggest Expansion In Franchise History

Posted on October 13, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Boasting to be the franchises’ biggest DLC yet, did Bioware. Stating that this DLC is “twice the size of any previous released DLC.” Instead of playing Shepard in Omega, you get to take control of Aria as she hunts down operatives of Cerberus.

From the Bioware Blog:

Soldiers of the Milky Way,

Disturbing reports from the Citadel suggest that something big is about to go down. If our Intel is accurate, Aria is on the move. This was anticipated, as we did not expect her to sit idly by while Cerberus ran roughshod over Omega. With her biotic capabilities and well-documented mean streak, what happens next won’t be pretty.

Our informants believe that Aria intends to seek out Commander Shepard for assistance. We are aware of the Commander’s ties to Aria, but are unclear about how deep they run. What we do know is that Aria will be relentless in her fight to take back Omega, and with the Commander at her side, she may very well be unstoppable.

We will be observing this situation closely as it develops. Continue to monitor this channel for further communication.

A timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, you can get Mass Effect 3: Omega on November 27th, for 1200 MSP. Hopefully it won’t become this kind of “timed exclusive.”

EA/Bioware Launches Mass Effect 3 Portal N7 HQ

Posted on October 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

So, what exactly is this Mass Effect 3 Portal N7 HQ? Think of Battlefield’s Battlelog, only less Battlefield and more Mass Effect!

You can find the newly launched N7 HQ website by clicking here.  This portal will track all of your hours played, matches played, challenges completed, etc, etc. Also you can check where you are ranked on the leaderboards. As well as checking up on your friends (or enemies) and see where they stack up too! Not to mention to see how they are leveling up their characters!

It seems that EA/Bioware has gone all out for Mass Effect 3, which is a good thing. It’s good to see them contining to support the title in different ways. Whether by launching a stat tracking site or adding new multiplayer maps every so often.

What do you all think about this new site?

Fox Developing Battlefield: Bad Company Into TV Series

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Deadline.com reports that Fox has started development of a tv show for the ever popular Battlefield franchise. More specifically, the Battlefield: Bad Company game.

Here are the official details as shown by Deadline.com:

Fox has put in development Bad Company, an hourlong action comedy based on EA’s bestselling video game from Alias alum John Eisendrath, Sony TV and studio-based Happy Madison.

Written by Eisendrath, Bad Company features the main characters from the game. It follows four renegade soldiers as they exit military life and enter the private sector. But trouble is never far behind as they realize their commanding officer had used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks. Eisendrath is executive producing with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson and EA’s Patrick Bach and Patrick O’Brien.

So could this be the new trend for video games? To start releasing tv shows based on established names? I’m all for it if the quality is there. How about you all?

Just when you thought the universe couldn’t get any bigger in Mass Effect 3, Bioware/EA comes out of nowhere and announces a new multiplayer expansion (called Mass Effect 3: Retaliation) that lands on October 9th.

But what is included in this, the biggest multiplayer expansion yet, you may ask? Well, there are 6 new maps, 16 new characters, new enemy type: The Collectors, new weapons to collect, new “challenge” feature, and each map will receive “environmental hazards” to make things a little tougher.
