Posted on February 17, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Ever wonder what would happen if EA/Popcap’s Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare crossed over into the real world? Well, us neither, until we seen this new trailer released this week. Can you imagine what a dolphin gun would look like? Ace Ventura is probably screaming out to his jungle friends as we speak. Seriously though, this is plants eating zombies eating plants, so why not have a dolphin gun?Read More

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Gameplay Trailer

Posted on January 23, 2014 by Joshua Rust

Earlier last week, PopCap Games and Electronic Arts unfortunately pushed Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare back. Fortunately, it was only for one extra week. While this game doesn’t follow the formula for the first title in this franchise, it looks to be equally intriguing. Some of the key features include 24-player multiplayer mayhem, customization options for both zombies and the plants, and four-player online co-op. The Xbox One version will feature offline split-screen co-op and SmartGlass & Kinect functionality as well.

To help ease the wound of Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare’s slight delay, PopCap & EA have released a new trailer to smooth it overRead More

Unit Lost! EA Cancels Command & Conquer, Closes Victory Games

Posted on October 30, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Arts has debriefed the developers of the upcoming free to play Command & Conquer for the last time it seems. The upcoming multiplayer shooter has been shelved by the publisher and the game’s developer, Victory Games, has been shuttered according to multiple media reports. It’s sad to see such a promising entry in a long running series and an untold number of developers assigned to new projects or worse out of a job.

In a detailed statement on the official C&C website the publisher revealed the decision to cancel the project after collecting feedback from the game’s recent closed alpha test. In particular they cite the game’s lack of focus on a campaign mode and “built-in economy system” as a concern from series veterans. They promised to continue work on C&C, but with the developer closed it’s probable that whatever form the series takes next a new developer will be at the helm.Read More

NHL 14 | Review

Posted on September 11, 2013 by Jason Nason

Aside from demos, I haven’t played a full edition of EA’s NHL series since way back in NHL 07. That’s a long time to be away, though I have played that game an awful lot. The newest game in the series, aptly titled NHL 14, continues on with everything that I thought was great in that game and builds upon it to make an even greater game.

Included in NHL 14 are a few new modes as well as the franchise’s continual advancement of existing features.

One of the new modes is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of NHL ’94, which was released twenty years ago for the SNES and Sega Genesis. NHL ’94 Anniversary Mode is a new way to get into old-school NHL action.

Need For Speed Franchise Now In The Hands of EA Ghost

Posted on August 30, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA’s premier racing franchise has had a bit of an identity crisis the past few years, switching from recent developer Criterion to other studios under the EA umbrella. It looks like a little bit of continuity will be coming to the franchise in future installments starting with the upcoming Need For Speed: Rivals thanks to developer EA Ghost.  Instead of switching between developers with every iteration of NFS, Ghost will handle development exclusively.

It seems that EA is aware that the last few games have been met with mixed opinions, at least critically. 2010’s Need For Speed reboot was stylish re-envisioning and a breath of fresh air, at least in my opinion. NFS 2010 yielded a metacritic score of 88, 2011’s more character driven Need for Speed: The Run took a bit of a hit with an average score of 69, while last year’s Need For Speed: Most Wanted seemed to redeem the series’ recent reputation with a respectable 84. Electronic Arts has yet to release details on the iOS/Android versions of NFS, and whether these mobile versions will be also developed at EA Ghost.Read More

Sim City To Be Released On Mac Later This Month

Posted on August 6, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Arts is preparing to release the promised Mac OSX port of Sim City later this month, according to a press release issued earlier in the day. Multiplayer is front & center in the new Sim City and it is no surprise that the game will be cross platform, enabling established PC players interact with Mac players/

Sim City will be available in both digital and physical (boxed) flavors on August 29th. Here’s hoping that the Mac version isn’t plagued as some of the same connectivity issues as the PC version. Last I heard, things have been running rather smoothly.

Screenshots From Private Battlefield 4 Alpha Surface

Posted on June 9, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Art’s latest Battlefield game isn’t exactly a secret, in fact when the game was unveiled a few months ago they treated us all to over ten minutes of in-game footage taken from the single player campaign.  What is concerning is that someone has leaked almost a dozen screenshots from an internal Alpha build right before E3. While none of the details presented are confirmed, these screenshots hint at some exciting new features for this military franchise.

As others have pointed out, a few screenshots in the gallery make allusions to enhanced knife, gun and character customization. BF4 may also include changes to the squad re-spawning system as well, raising the amount of players in a Squad to five. Only one new map is featured in the Alpha multiplayer trial – titled “Siege”, appears to take place in Shanghai.

Obviously these screenshots come from an unfinished internal alpha build, several areas like vehicles and environment lack finished texts and post-processing. Are you excited for Battlefield 4? Let us know in the comments, and check out a partial gallery after the jump.

Fuse | Review

Posted on June 5, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Version Tested: Xbox 360

Let’s face it, Insominac Games is a pretty big name in the gaming world. Series like Resistance and Ratchet & Clank are proof that Insomniac Games knows what they are doing. So, does their newest title, Fuse, the first game published by EA and developed for not only Sony’s PlayStation 3, but Microsoft’s Xbox 360, keep Insomniac’s tradition of quality titles running? Read More

Need For Speed Rivals Announced For Next/Current Gen

Posted on May 23, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Hot off the heels of the Xbox One announcement, Electronic Arts has revealed the latest entry in their long running racing franchise, Need For Speed: Rivals. The game is destined for next generation platforms, like the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as current gen machines.  Developed by Critereon Games (of 2010 Need For Speed and the Burnout Franchise) will be handling development duties targeting a November 19th release for the current generation consoles and “later this year” for next-gen.

Need For Speed: Rivals is powered by D.I.C.E’s impressive Frostbite 3.0 engine, which has allowed Critereon to craft a visually impressive game, complete with roadworthy physics. New to the series is a feature known as “alldrive”, which allows users to join and drop from friend’s game worlds instantly. The developers have already stated there will be differences between the current generation and next-gen versions in terms of alldrive, including the number of simotanous players, with more details expected to be released at E3.

We’ve got a small gallery of screenshots featuring several famous automobiles like Ferrari, Austin Martin and Porsh, as well as a trailer, after the jump.Read More

Electronic Arts Kisses Online Passes Goodbye

Posted on May 15, 2013 by Joshua Rust

This could quite possibly be some of the best news I’ve heard in quite a while in regards to Electronic Arts (EA). It’s been known for quite a while that EA’s upcoming game Fuse will not require an Online Pass to play the multiplayer component of the game, but who knew that EA was actually listening to its fan base (for lack of a better word) when we say that Online Passes suck!

According to a recent interview with GamesBeat,  EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg, told them that, “Yes we’re discontinuing Online Pass. None of our new titles will include that feature.”

I think the question remains is how EA will get around this. It’s not a matter of “if”…just “how” and “when”. This could have something to do with the possible success of micro-transactions through games like Mass Effect 3 and Dead Space 3. But, either way it’s good to see that they are doing away with these Online Passes that were “supposed to extend the server life” of games because the them being bought used. Which we all know that didn’t happen as most of the game servers are still taken down pretty much two years after the games have been released – mostly sports titles though.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on EA getting rid of the Online Passes? Perhaps EA is trying to get back on the right track with consumers…?

Disney and EA Announce Multi-Year Star Wars Games Partnership

Posted on May 6, 2013 by Joshua Rust

The House Of Mouse and publishing giant Electronic Arts have agreed to multi-game and multiyear agreement that will put the Star Wars brand in the hands of studios like Visceral, DICE, & Bioware. Of course Bioware is no stranger as they have put out one of the best Star Wars games ever created, in my opinion, Star Wars: The Knights Of The Old Republic. No, I’m not talking about that MMO one either. Unfortunately, I don’t think this means that the impressive and promising Star Wars 1313 game will be resurrected – but one can hope.

Electronic Arts will be handling the ‘core’ Star Wars games, while Disney will focus on the casual games – ranging from phones, tablets, consoles, & PC. Here’s hoping that we will get some quality titles out of this deal. For the official press release, keep reading after the jump.Read More

Electronic Arts announced today the new features for EA Sports’ upcoming NHL 14 title, which is set to be released in the fall. The new features promise to unleash the aggression, speed and skill of NHL hockey through the best technology of this console generation that EA Sports has to offer.

Army Of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Launch Trailer

Posted on March 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Visceral Games got off to a fairly decent start this year with Dead Space 3 averaging in at a 78/100 on Metacritic. They look to revive an otherwise stale franchise next week when they release Army Of Two: The Devil’s Cartel on Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. So to keep the hype up for the games impending launch, Electronic Arts & Visceral Games have released a new trailer – the launch trailer in fact.

While I loved the first game, I felt that the sequel was a bit off in places. I’m hoping that Visceral Games renews my faith in this franchise because at its’ core it’s a great co-op game to play with a friend. So here’s hoping that it receives just as good, if not better, reception from the critics.Read More

EA Launches ‘Origin Gamer’s Appreciation Sale’

Posted on March 19, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA wants to show you, the gamer, that they love you, buy offering you heavily discounted PC / Xbox 360/ PS3 titles for the next week. Over 200 titles are discounted up to 70% off including some big names from last year.

Some of the noteworthy deals include Battlefield 3 Premium for $24.99, Crysis 3 for $29.99, Mass Effect 3 for $9.99 and Hitman Absolution for $15.00. They’re also throwing in free shopping on physical item orders over $25. I couldn’t possibly list all of the games here, so check out the Origin Store Front for all of the deals.

Will this be enough to sway users to Origin after the disastrous launch of Sim City? I’m sure that EA will be a huge influx of cash from these deals, and Crysis 3’s inclusion is surprising considering the game came out only a few weeks ago. Although players who purchased Sim City and then were offered free copies of Battlefield 3, among other games, must be pissed off that the company is discounting the games used as an apology– effectively tarnishing it.
