E3 2018: One of the Games I’m Most Excited For (From E3) Is a Mobile Elder Scrolls Game

Posted on June 19, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Elder Scrolls series doesn’t exactly have a positive history with mobile iterations – there’s that cancelled PSP version from 2008 that never saw the light of day and a 2006 Java phone game which is probably better off forgotten. All of that is about to change with the upcoming release of The Elder Scrolls: Blades for Android and iOS.

It seems that technology has finally caught up to Bethesda’s vision for a mobile ES title, as Blades is set to offer full dungeon exploration, full movement via digital touch controls, spell casting and console quality graphics. From the brief look given to the Blades at their E3 press conference it will be a hybrid between dungeon exploration (both procedurally generated and human designed) and customizing a town. Rather than being an open world sandbox players will be upgrading their town, taking on quests in various dungeons and leveling up their player avatar.

No word yet on how The Elder Scrolls: Blades will be monetized – it is available for pre-order on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store right now. Seems pretty silly to pre-order a free to play title, here’s hoping there aren’t literal “loot chests” in Elder Scrolls: Blades. As much as I despise “stamina systems” that encourage you NOT to play a given title, random loot drops are by far more predatory.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades is scheduled for release sometime this fall on Mobile and may eventually come to PC, Nintendo Switch and other consoles.

E3 2018: Death Stranding’s Fourth Trailer Is Just As Confusing As The Rest

Posted on June 13, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Kojima Production’s Death Stranding has been confusing viewers since its debut at E3 2016 and the previous 3 trailers gave us no reason to suspect that the first glimpse of gameplay would be any differed.  Coming in at just over 8 minutes in length, this latest look at the game confirms that Norman Reedus’ character is named ‘Sam Porter Bridges’ and that he makes deliveries. Throughout the nearly ten minute presentation we see Sam carry a number of boxes on his back, utilize motorized robots and other delivery related equipment. HOLY SHIT WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT DEATH STRANDING WAS JUST A ‘STACK STUFF ON YOURSELF SIMULATOR’..

Of course, this is Kojima and things aren’t that simple: What we do now know thanks to this trailer:

1) Parts of Sam’s name have appeared on the two different suits that he has worn in trailers 3 & 4. With ‘Bridges’ and ‘Porter’ respectively.
2) As revealed at the end of the trailer – eating one of the slug shaped creatures will ‘keep the Time Fall away’.
3) The time reversing rain that we’ve seen in trailer’s 2 and 3 is known as Time Fall and causes rapid aging.
4) Kojima has talked about how death will not be the end of the game in Death Stranding. Instead, Sam awakens in an alternate death dimension. This is referenced directly by a voice over Sam’s radio in Trailer 4.
5) The invisible ‘things’ that killed the work crew in trailer 3 can be sensed by Sam but not seen, while his new female companion can see them it seems.
6) If Sam is eaten by one of the invisible creatures he will come back back to live but a giant crator will be created, just like we saw in trailer 3.

Now fans get to start piecing together … wait these pieces don’t seem to fit together at all. *sigh* well, we might be back at square one with this. Are the invisible creators (called ‘ludens’ by fans) the souls of former people? Is Sam’s name actually a combination of his job ‘porter’ as in “a person employed to carry luggage and other loads, especially in a railroad station, airport, or hotel.” and ‘bridges’, a company? Why do the little worm things keep the Time Fall away? Do they spawn clones of the carriers?

AAAAAHHH my mind is broken for now. Death Stranding still has no solid release date but it is coming eventually for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.

E3 2018: Dante and Crew Are Back In Devil May Cry 5

Posted on June 13, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Get ready for cheesy one liners, fluid chain building combat and an over the top melodramatic story featuring angels, demons and other mythological creatures in Devil May Cry 5. Billed by Capcom as a true sequel to 2008’s Devil May Cry 4, DMC5 marks the first time Capcom has taken the series in-house after a decade hiatus.

The story of DMC5 picks up several years after the last entry – with a demonic invasion looming and the seeds of the Demon Tree starting to take root within Red Grave City, Dante’s younger ally Nero is drawn to investigate this new threat.  Without the power of his demonic arm, Nero must utilize a new mechanical prosthetic (which he can ride like a rocket) to dispatch the forces of hell. Can Nero find Dante in time to stop the oncoming invasion?

Devil May Cry 5 is powered by Capcom’s RE Engine which made it’s debut in last year’s Resident Evil 7. It’ll be directed by Hideki Itsuno and will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in the Spring of 2019.

E3 2018:Co-Op FPS Earthfall Gets Brand New Trailer

Posted on June 12, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Grab three friends and get ready to save the earth in a brand new a co-op survival experience that honestly feels very reminiscent of Valve’s Left for Dead titles. Earthfall is a 4 player multiplayer FPS coming to Xbox and PS4 on console and is already available in Early Access on Steam.

Guns aren’t the only tools available for players to aid in their survival – weapons can be 3D printed in a really neat sci-fi looking fabrication process using the Genie Workbench 5 printer. Players can also craft both usable and automatic turrets, barricades and other tools of destruction.

Earthfall features campaign-like narratives that take place throughout it’s various stages. Each of the 4 playable characters have their own personalities, voice lines and interactions, I wonder how long it will take players to see them all?

Here’s the official description of Earthfall from its Steam Page:

“When the world ends, the fight begins! In co-op shooter Earthfall, gather your friends, load your weapons and grab your portable defenses and work together as a team to battle through swarms of ferocious aliens. Complete objectives, fortify and defend holdouts and use 3D printers to create more weapons, barricades and turrets to get the job done by slaughtering the alien scum through 10 epic levels full of brutal combat and rich lore.”

Players on PC shouldn’t really worry about taxing system specs, requiring only a GTX 750 and 8GB of RAM, even medium-spec systems should be able to run Earthfall just fine,

  • OS: Windows 7
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4430
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 750 2GB
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 20 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Recommended

Earthfall will launch out of Early Access onto all platforms on July 13th.

E3 2018: First Gameplay Demo of Battlefield V Shown

Posted on June 11, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA kicked things off yesterday afternoon with the first gameplay demo of the upcoming Battlefield V. We already knew that BFV wold set during World War II and will feature playable female soldiers both in the campaign mode and online. While no gameplay of the rumored Battle Royale mode was shown during the conference, nor were concrete details divulged, developers from DICE did confirm that BFV will ship with a Battle Royale mode when the game arrives this fall.

DICE’s Frostbite Engine once again provides the near photo-realistic graphics and physics for Battlefield V. Improvements made to the engine for this year’s title include the ability to vault your soldier through pane of glass and now larger vehicles like tanks can also destroy entire buildings – which admittedly does look really freaking cool.

The Battlefield franchise has never really been my shooter of choice, I much prefer arcadey and up-close titles like Quake and older Call of Duty titles but for those looking for large scale, 64 player mayhem, BFV should have them covered. It will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. An Origin Access Trial Version is set to be released on October 11th, one week before BFV’s general release on October 19th.

Bethesda Announces Fallout 76, May Be A Online Survival Game

Posted on May 30, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda had been running a mysterious and unannounced Twitch stream yesterday that was literally just a Fallout bobblehead standing upright in front of a camera and occasionally a “Please Stand By” title card.  Not exactly something that was going to set the world on fire, and it can be easy to see why the hype and announcement of Pokemon Lets Go: Eevee & Pikachu overshadowed anything Bethesda was doing it.

It turns out all of this was to build up hype to the announcement of Fallout 76, a game officially know nothing about and whose press release simply confirms that it exists and will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – alongside an official logo.

Unofficial sources told Kotaku that the game is an online survival RPG in the vein of Rust or ARK or 7 Days to Die. That means it will allow multiple players to connect via a central server to build fortresses, gather resources and well.. Survive. What we don’t know about Fallout 76 is whether or not the game will support offline play or player run servers (as both 7 Days to Die and ARK do).

More details are expected at Bethesda’s E3 showcase in two weeks time.

Nintendo’s E3 2018 Plans Include Splatoon 2 World Championship, Smash Bros and More

Posted on April 30, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

With six weeks until the kickoff of E3 2018 Nintendo has provided an outline of what exactly fans can expect during the show. For those that can make it to Los Angeles and have the credentials (or cash) for a pass – that means a chance to go hands-on with the newly announced Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch as well as a selection of 3rd party titles. As in prior years, Nintendo will also be hosting a sponsored tournament – this year it’s the Splatoon 2 World Invitation – and of course the now traditional Nintendo Direct E3 presentation.

Nintendo’s first competitive showcase will be the Splatoon 2 World Invitation which will take place on Monday June 11th from 3PM – 6PM PST. If you’ve already checked out Nintendo’s official E3 website, yes the artwork for the Splatoon 2 World Invitation looks to be directly inspired by the 1990s Nintendo World Championship. Will winners receive a golden commemorative GameCard that will retail for thousands of dollars on eBay?

Right after the Splatoon festivities end on June 12th is the gameplay debut of the brand new Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch (which we still don’t know the final name of). Alongside professional players, fans will also be given the chance to play the new brawler thanks to a sponsored cosplay competition that the Big N is throwing. No further details yet on what exactly will be playable for Smash Bros how folks can enter the cosplay contest – so be on the look out for those details.

As is usual, on Tuesday June 12th the E3 2018 Nintendo Direct video presentation will take place at 9 AM PST. Whatever surprises that the creators of Mario have in store for us will remain a mystery up until the broadcast itself but they have mentioned that they will be focusing on already announced games. Nintendo will also only focus on titles that will be released in 2018 – so no teases for what is to come in 2019!

Possible Games

  • Yoshi (Name not known)
  • Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch
  • Octopath Traveler (Square Enix)
  • Travis Strikes Again (Grasshopper Manufacture)
  • Super Meat Boy Forever
  • Untitled Fire Emblem for Nintendo Switch (Intelligent Systems)

So to recap – here is a shortlist of important dates for E3 2018 when it comes to Nintendo:

Splatoon 2 World Inivational – June 11th and 12th
Super Smash Bros Tournament – June 12th
Treehouse Live! – June 12th – 15th
Nintendo Direct E3 Presentation – June 12th @ 9 AM PST
Super Smash Bros playable by the public – At Nintendo’s booth
