Batman: Arkham HD Collection Leaked For June Release On PS4 / Xbox One

Posted on April 19, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

RockSteady’s original two Batman Arkham games will be re-released in a new Batman Arkham  HD Collection for the PS4 and Xbox One according to a GameStop employee.  The collection will reportedly include 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum  and 2011’s Batman: Arkham City with graphical improvements and optimization for both platforms.  It will also include all of the previously released DLC for both titles as well. It will be available for pre-order later today with a release date set for June 10th.

I reviewed RockSteady‘s last game, Batman: Arkham Knight on PS4 last summer. Here is what I had to say on that game:

“At the end of the day Batman: Arkham Knight is a solid open world title that packs in a number of different side activities and main story missions that will keep players engaged for many hours. The larger open world environments are a welcomed change of pace for the Arkham series but arbitrary gating of new territory tied to story missions is something that I had hoped Arkham Knight wouldn’t have continued. The writing in Arkham Knight  is also problematic in how it handles its female characters and falling clearly into trope territory while leaving Batman as an un-relatable avatar that exists solely to facilitate the game’s excellent combat.”

Previously released DLC for Arkham City included: Several skins for batman packaged as a Skin Pack, an optional Challenge Room pack that included The Bat Cave and Joker’s Carnival and a playable NightWing pack that included a new playabale character and challenge maps.

Previously released DLC for Arkham Asylum included: Several challenge maps – Dem Bones, Crime Alley, Heart of Darkness, Hothouse Prey and the previously PS4 / OSX exclusive The Joker Challenge Map collection.

WB Games / 2K Sales Hit PlayStation Network This Week

Posted on January 20, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Prepare to enter the shadows like the caped crusader or sneak up on some Orcs like the protagonist of 2014’s Shadow of Mordor with deals from both Warner Bros Games and 2K Games on PlayStation Network this week.

I’ve neglected to list pricing on these games simply due to the fact that the Canadian dollar is in a bit of a free fall right now and I suspect the prices I am seeing on the PlayStation Network might not exactly be accurate.

Currency oddities aside there are a number of excellent games from years past on sale this week. If you haven’t played any of the Arkham games across both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 the entire RockSteady trilogy is available at a reduced price.  You also can’t go wrong with the Handsome Collection – which includes two awesome Borderlands titles (2 & Pre-Sequel) with enhanced graphics for the PlayStation 4.

PS4 Games

  • A Boy and His Blob
  • Batman Arkham Knight
  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
  • Evolve
  • Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
  • Lego: The Hobbit
  • Mad Max
  • Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • WWE 2k16

P3 Games

  • Batman Arkham Asylum
  • Batman Arkham City
  • Bioshock
  • Borderlands 2
  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
  • Mortal Kombat (2011)

PS Vita Games

  • A Boy and His Blob
  • Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
  • Mortal Kombat (2011)
  • Odd World N’ Tasty

Does AMD’s Crimson Driver Suite Really Increase Performance By 20%?

Posted on November 25, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

As we reported earlier this week AMD has released an elaborate overhaul of both it’s Windows 10 / 8 / 7 drivers for AMD Radeon Cards that support the Graphics Card Next (GCN) architecture. In the interest of performance, I’ve decided to test the performance of the last AMD Catalyst Software / Driver versus the newly released AMD Crimson. Check out my testing methodology, suite of games and results after the jump!Read More

AMD Crimson Driver & Software Suite Rumored For Imminent Release

Posted on November 24, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Owners of AMD cards have been seeing some inferior benchmarks when compared against comparable Nvidia hardware with recent titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum and The Witcher III. Many tech journalists and enthusiasts users have speculated that this disparity may have to do with these titles utilization of Nvidia’s proprietary GameWorks technologies. Rain effects in Batman, Lighting in Fallout 4 and hair in The Witcher III all utilize Nvidia exclusive technologies that AMD owners have had to tone down or disable entirely in order to achieve the same framerates as GeForce owners.

It looks like AMD might finally have an answer with the (rumored) impending release of AMD Radeon Crimson – a brand new driver and software suite that according to leaked marketing material will provide a number of benefits to owners of existing and future hardware.

On the r/PCGaming sub-reddit a user by the handle of BehindaCorpFirewall posted a link to over a dozen presentation slides that outline the AMD Crimson software. Here are a few of the more interesting points, at least to me:

Higher Frames Per Second

  • Asynchronous Shaders allow for breaking serial workloads into parallel tasks
  • Idle GPU resources used for this task instead of queuing
  • Improved multi-threading performance

Low Frame Rate Compensation Technology

  • Smooths out gameplay when application frame rate falls below monitor refresh rate
  • Algorithms adjust GPU output and refresh-rate to prevent game stuttering
  • No additional hardware or configuration required for this feature.

Custom Resolutions Support & Better Up-Scaling

  • Allows users to create custom resolutions.
  • Control over pixel density & refresh rate.
  • Improved 2k (1080P) à 4K (UHD) scaling

What do you think of some of these rumored changes that the Crimson driver & software may bring? If these leaked material are even close to accurate we could see the rollout of this new software package in the coming days. If you head-on over to the AMD website you can already watch a preview video outlining some of the work that has gone into Crimson.

Right now all of this should be considered a rumor, as an AMD owner I’ll be sure to take some bench marks in some of the games I regularly play and report back after the rollout.

Take A Trip To Gotham In This New Arkham Knight Gameplay Vid

Posted on November 25, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Out of the shadows comes a brand new gameplay video for Batman: Arkham Knight from Warner Bros Interactive. This video gives you a great look at the game’s combat as well as how the Batmobile will be useable during missions! In part one of this three part walkthrough series Batman has to enter Ace chemicals and take down the Arkham Knight’s henchmen as well as rescue Ace workers who are being held hostage.

If I am not mistaken… Batman may have killed a dude at the 1:07 mark, I mean shoving someone’s head into a panel full of live electrical wires doesn’t exactly sound survivable.

Regardless, part two will be released on the Arkham Knight facebook page with the final video premiering during the PlayStation Experience Keynote on December 6th.

Batman Arkham Knight will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 2nd 2015. Check out the full video after the jump.

Batman Arkham City 50% Off On Steam This Weekend

Posted on May 4, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Quick, to the batmobile! This weekend’s deal on Steam is particularly tempting for all us comic fans out there. Until Monday May 7th Batman Arkham City has been discounted on steam to an absolutely mind blowing $14.99!

For that price you’d have to be as mad as the joker not to pick up Arkham City (okay I’ll stop with the lame jokes!). If you missed out on Arkham back when it launched in October now is as good as any time to get in on the detective action, especially with the Harley’s Revenge DLC coming out at the end of the month.
