Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Demo Lands on PSN

Posted on December 4, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The collaborative RPG effort between Professor Layton developer Level-5 and legendary anime studio Studio Ghibli, Ni No Kuni, finally has a presence in North America with the release of a playable demo on the PlayStation Network. If you can’t wait for the game to ship on January 22nd of next year, you now can try a slice of the game free of charge!

The demo allows players to experience two levels from the final game including two boss fights – the Guardian of the Woods and Moltaan, according to IGN.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was developed by Level-5 in 2010 for the DS before being ported and completely overhauled for the HD Era with a PlayStation 3 release in 2011 in Japan.  Studioo Ghibli, the creators of such great Anime features such as Princess Mononoke and Howls Moving Castle handled the art direction and character design. The story centers on a 13 year old boy, Oliver, who is able to use a book that belonged to his deceased mother to enter a parallel world.

Double Dragon Neon | Review

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Version tested:  PlayStation 3

Double Dragon has one of my favorite openings in games:  A babe stands alone in a street and a gang approaches her; a dude steps forward from the gang and he punches the babe straight in the gut. He then hoists her over his shoulder, turns, and walks off with the gang. The garage door of the residence in the background opens, and 1P emerges. He has a Camero by his side, but ignores it. He’s taking this to the streets. Everyone on the street. You’re Billy Lee, and some dudes just took your girl, and you’re going to beat the shit out of everyone that gets in your way until you get her back. It’s this single mindedness and lack of exposition that makes the opening so damn great. It doesn’t matter why they took her–they just took her! And so starts Double Dragon.Read More

NiGHTS into DREAMS… | Review

Posted on October 22, 2012 by Jeff Wade

Much like listening in on someone’s dreams, NiGHTS into Dreams… is endlessly fascinating to those experiencing it but incomprehensible to anyone listening in.

First released on the Sega Saturn 16 years ago, NiGHTS (hencforth just Nights for the sake of copy editors everywhere) was Sonic Team’s big push for the console, an ambitious game that aimed to accurately convey the feeling of flight just as their namesake aimed to capture the sensation of speed. This re-release comes in two flavors; a no frills rendering of the original as seen in 1996 and an HD upscale of the 2008 Japan only PS2 remake.Read More

Darkstalkers Digital Collection Announced, Teaser Shown

Posted on October 12, 2012 by Jeff Wade

Kicking off New York Comic Con with a scare, Capcom announced plans to release a collection of titles from their monster button masher Darkstalkers series for digital release in early 2013, and continued to fan the flames of a full on sequel.

Darkstalkers Resurrection will bundle the series second game Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge along with the beloved Darkstalkers 3 together in one digital bundle. The collection is being handled by Iron Galaxy and will come with the same filters, GGPO online play and dynamic challenges that were seen in their ports of Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition and more recently in Marvel vs. Capcom Origins.

The digital title will run $14.99 on PSN and 1200 Microsoft points on XBLA, and will release when the full moon of the new year wanes to the early days of the new. Or early 2013, your preference.Read More

To refesh your memory, The Unfinished Swan was an indie game which was briefly mentioned in a few different game conferences from developers Giant Sparrow. You control a boy named Monroe in a entirely white space environment and he is chasing after a swan that escaped a painting his missing mom left him. Equipped with a paint gun, he can use it to paint the world black to reveal the geometry of the world to navigate.Read More

Posted on October 1, 2012 by Seung Lee

Sony’s been pushing PSN a lot, lately, as evident by the new Day 1 Digital program. Now, the company’s giving you even more incentive to make the switch to digital, with a new deal: spend $100 on PSN, and receive a $20 PSN voucher. If you happen to be interested in this offer, it’ll be important to know that you’ll receive an e-mail (for the account used to set up your PSN account) with the code. If e-mails aren’t your thing, then XMB messages will also be sent to PS3 registered accounts.

There’s a ton of stuff out on the PlayStation Store that deserves some love; why not buy some of it, and then be able to have some more? Check out the full details here.

PSN Day 1 Digital Will Be Upon Us This October

Posted on September 25, 2012 by Seung Lee

If you don’t know what the PSN Day 1 Digital program is, then you’re in luck, because I’m about to explain what it is, in a rather quick and painless paragraph. Over the course of this October, PS3 gamers will be able to get their hands on digital copies of upcoming popular titles, such as Resident Evil 6, NBA 2K13, Dishonored, and Assassin’s Creed III. One key benefit of digital downloads is being able to play games on the same day that they officially release. PlayStation Plus members will also receive 10% discounts on quite a few of the many titles that Sony has to offer.

That wasn’t too bad, was it? If you hate the lines at your local retailers, or just driving out to places, then why not take advantage of this program? A word of advice, though: you may want to keep some space open for the HDD. Check out the PlayStation Blog post describing the program in full, here.

PlayStation Plus For Vita Out This November

Posted on September 19, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony announced this morning that PlayStation Plus will be launching on the PS Vita this November. At E3 Jack Trenton announced that the service would be coming to the handheld but very little in the way of details were offered. We now have a better picture of what the portable iteration of Sony’s premium membership will offer.

The most anticipated features, free games will of course be available on Vita. Sony promises more details in the future regarding which titles will be offered on Vita. Outside of the free goodies PSN+ members will be able to enjoy discount on downloadable vita games, DLC as well as regular sales. The automatic update feature, which downloads free DLC and patches to the console while on standby, will also be available this November.

What do you think about the inclusion of PSN+ on the Vita? For me, it means more reason to bust out one of my favorite handhelds. The free games do have me a little worried, the Vita doesn’t have the strongest line-up at this point so I don’t see Sony offering any premium games. Perhaps they’ll offer downloadable games like Escape Plan or the recently reduced (can be found for less than $20) Wipeout 2048 or MLB.

Grand Theft Auto III PSN Date Revealed?

Posted on September 18, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

After a long wait, Grand Theft Auto III will finally hit the Playstation Store after months of delay due to issues surrounding certain tracks of the game’s soundtrack. However the news is coming from Sony Hong Kong’s website and they have it listed for September 25th. This source could be trusted as in the past the Hong Kong PS Store has matched release dates with the US and EU. Rockstar has not officially confirmed the date for the release however. While we await the release of GTA V, why not kick it old school? Read More

Sonic Adventure 2 & Nights into Dreams Release October 2nd

Posted on September 17, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sega continues their recent trend of releasing HD ports of previous generation classics with the release of Sonic Adventure 2 HD and Nights into Dreams HD early next month. Both of these games will be available individually for $9.99 on Playstation Network and Xbox on October 2nd & 5th respectively.

Similar to the DX Addon for the HD Port of Sonic Adventure the sequel will have an optional $5 add-on. The “battle mode” addon allows players to gain access to the previously GameCube exclusive multiplayer modes. Nights Into Dreams also has its own expansion content, Christmas Nights, an add-on that was originally available through gaming magazines and special orders. Unlike Battle Mode Christmas Nights will be available free of charge.

I cannot wait to rip up the streets of San Francisco in City Escape, even just for old time’s sake. Sure, the game might be dated but that level makes the $10 entry price worth every penny!
