Worms: Revolution | Review

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

If you were to think about video game franchises that have had a constant stream of releases in spite of economical and cultural shifts in the last few years, you would immediately point fingers at the more obvious Mario, Legend of Zelda and even Call of Duty as of recent. However, no one would ever mention Team 17’s algebraic trajectile strategy franchise, or better known as the Worms series; a franchise with more than a dozen titles to its name on everything from the Amiga to the Xbox 360. Truthfully, the only reason that people often forget about Worms is the fact that the franchise hasn’t made a successful impact to the gaming scene since Worms: Armageddon in 1998. For years, the blokes at Team 17 have been grasping at straws to return to that gold standard, and this year’s attempt comes in the form of Worms: Revolution, with a name that should invoke promises of a radical shift to the franchise which it does, and does not.Read More

Double Dragon Neon | Review

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Version tested:  PlayStation 3

Double Dragon has one of my favorite openings in games:  A babe stands alone in a street and a gang approaches her; a dude steps forward from the gang and he punches the babe straight in the gut. He then hoists her over his shoulder, turns, and walks off with the gang. The garage door of the residence in the background opens, and 1P emerges. He has a Camero by his side, but ignores it. He’s taking this to the streets. Everyone on the street. You’re Billy Lee, and some dudes just took your girl, and you’re going to beat the shit out of everyone that gets in your way until you get her back. It’s this single mindedness and lack of exposition that makes the opening so damn great. It doesn’t matter why they took her–they just took her! And so starts Double Dragon.Read More

New Dead Island: Riptide Info!

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Just got an email a bit ago from our friends at Deep Silver, chock full of new information about Dead Island: Riptide.  First of all, that handsome fellow in the featured image at the top there?  That’s John Morgan.  He’s your fifth playable character, and he ain’t one of those “play this one level designed for this character” additions to the DI franchise.  No, he’s one with whom you can play the whole campaign.  A hand-to-hand combat expert who is a Marines drop-out and has been making a living as a cook on a ship, he joins the other four protagonists in the fight of/for their lives.  One cool tidbit – this character was inspired by a fan-made hand-to-hand combat mod that was created for the PC version of Dead Island.  Just another shining example of why PC developers should embrace fan-made content and modifications of their games.  Those suckers know what they’re doing, by and large.
