Killing Floor Summer Sideshow Event Begins

Posted on July 6, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The second annual Killing Floor Summer Sideshow event has just begun. As with other seasonal events, the sideshow changes up Killing Floor’s usual menagerie of misanthropic mutants. Instead of facing off against angry, generally nude, specimens, Killing Floor owners will be facing angry specimens with freak show skins. The free update also includes some new achievements, another chance to unlock the Steampunk Mr. Foster skin, the new “Hellride” map, and 5 new weapons that were originally part of the IJC community weapons pack mod. While the skins and seasonal achievements will only be available until the 23rd, the new map and weapons are permanent.

Read on for the trailer and my impressions of the additions.Read More

PAA: OTRSPODE3 | Review

Posted on July 6, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 3 is the lastest entry in the Penny Arcade-themed video game.  At five bucks and available on many platforms, the barrier for entry is rather low.  But not everything that is cheap and easy to attain is worth the paltry sum of coins you must part with to attain it!  To that end, let’s discuss the nuances and finer points of this title, so you might be able to fully understand whether or not this is a game you’d enjoy housed in your collection.Read More

Square Enix Brings FFVII To PC

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Quite possibly the most beloved Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy VII, will be going digital on Windows PC Square Enix confirmed this afternoon. FFVII was released 15 years ago, all the way in 1997, and has been revered by fans and critics alike. This digital release is perhaps the closest that we will get to an HD remake, despite Square Enix’s teases back before the release of the PlayStation 3.

This updated version of Final Fantasy VIII isn’t just a straight port. The game features achievements, an editor that allows players to make out their stats, gain new items and more. I hope that the editor offers some kind of advanced control because if it is just the manipulation of your party members, their gear and statistics, it will make the game very easy!

This new version of FFVII will be compatible with Windows 7 (the original 1998 port does not work on modern operating systems) and will be released on Square Enix’s digital store later this year.

Second Free DLC Released for Wargame: European Escalation

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Eugen Systems released additional free downloadable content for Wargame: European Escalation today. The “Conquest” DLC adds a new mode (which also goes by the moniker “conquest”). This mode, playable against the AI or other people, is based around seizing and maintaining control of victory sectors on the map rather than annihilating the enemy’s forces. It also comes with 7 new maps (bringing the total number of maps to around 27). To commemorate the new DLC, Wargame is half off on Steam from now until the 9th of July.

You can read my review of Wargame here. Read on if you’re interested in my initial impressions of the DLC.Read More

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fans now have a second chance to be digitized as a playable avatar in Max Payne 3 with the announcement of a second round of auditions to be held by RockStar games.  Four lucky members of the RockStar Social Club will me immortalized in a Max Payne 3 DLC package, due out this fall.

The publisher will be holding several Social Club Events throughout July where those interested can enter to win.  To enter, simply select the “Social Club Event Playlist” in Max Payne 3’s multiplayer mode. You’ll have to play a complete game in order for your entry to count.

Random users who select the playlist will be invited to submit photos of themselves for consideration. RockStar provided the following casting sessions time & dates. Get your copies of Max Payne 3 ready!

Marvel Vs Capcom Goes Back In Time With MVC: Origins

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Get ready to restart the Clash of Heroes with the release of Marvel Vs Capcom: Origins for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this week. Origins is actually a compilation title comprised of Marvel Super Hereos and MVC Clash of Super Heroes. This is the first time that both of either of these titles have been released digitally, and I am sure it has been many years since a lot of games have thought about them outside of arcades filled with 90’s cabinets.

It has been many years since I’ve played the original Marvel Vs Capcom. The biggest memory it brings to life is sitting in a pizzaera with my fiancée (8 years going strong) battling over slices of Pizza. To be honest we’re pretty even, and maybe with the release or Origins we’ll take the battle into the online space over Xbox Live or the PSN.

MVC Origins will retail for 1200 MSP ($15 usd) when it releases this fall.

Magic: A Gift Or A Curse?

Posted on July 4, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Now I’ve made it very clear in the past that I love Dragon Age: Origins. I have mixed feelings on its predecessor Dragon Age 2, but that is a topic for another article. Today my dear readers we are here to discuss something far greater. Recently I was replaying Origins and I have been following this up with a speedy play through of Dragon Age 2. During this retread of familiar ground I have found myself able to reexamine some philosophical questions raised by both of these titles particularly the use of magic and mages themselves.Read More

Sony Buys Cloud Service Gaikai

Posted on July 2, 2012 by Kirk Williford

Sony has announced that they completed a deal last Friday to acquire gaming cloud service Gaikai. The service, similar to OnLive, cost Sony $380 million. The deal was originally rumored to be announced at E3 last month.

“By combining Gaikai’s resources including its technological strength and engineering talent with SCE’s extensive game platform knowledge and experience, SCE will provide users with unparalleled cloud entertainment experiences,” said Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House.

Cloud gaming allows gamers to play a game without having to run it on the local hardware, enabling high-quality games to be played on consoles, phones and apps with less than high quality hardware — all though streaming. This acquisition could be a major player for the next generation of consoles — perhaps Sony will use Gaikai’s services as an incentive for a cheaper SKU that is still capable of playing all PS4 titles. Or perhaps we won’t even need a new console at all, streaming all next gen titles directly to the PS3? Only time will tell!

Worms Evolution: The History of Worms Dev Diary

Posted on July 2, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Worms franchises have a long history, starting as a university project in the 1990s and has since evolved into a multiplatform franchise spanning the past 15 years. It’s been ported to every platform imaginable including the original PlayStation, the Dreamcast, PSP and now Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

The latest game, the 17th in the series, Worms Armageddon goes back to the series’ 2D roots while introducing a brand new engine. The games uses high resolution graphics and 3D terrain that acts just like the traditional 2D land masses from the previous games.

Persona 4: Arena Character Bio – Yukiko Amagi

Posted on July 2, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

We’re back from a lull during Canada Day to bring you a brand-new character bio for Persona 4: Arena. Just like our last bios we’ve got screenshots and a official bio from Atlus USA. Hopefully this won’t be the last biography that Atlus releases before Persona 4: Arena’s August release.

Yukiko Amagi has appeared in both Persona 3 and Persona 4. First as a non-playable character and finally joining the player’s party in the fourth installment. Her stylish red blouse, black tights and black skirt aren’t the only thing going for Yukiko, she also has some of the best grades in the class. Well she’s rich and popular with almost everyone she doesn’t let it get to her head, although she does have a tendency to be interested.Read More
