JOJO’s Bizarre Adventure Becomes Bizarre XBLA Game

Posted on July 16, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The original JoJo Bizarre Adventure was launched on the Sega Dreamcast over a decade ago and since then it’s one of the few Capcom fighting series, save for maybe SNK Vs Capcom, to see some form of re-release. This is about to change with the announcement of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD for the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

For fans of MVC3 or Super Street Fighter 4, JoJo may seem like a bit of a throwback. Sure it features super moves and devastating combos but there is less of a focus on performing over the top moves and more of a focus on chaining hits together successfully.

JoJo HD will be priced at $20 USD on the PSN or 1600 Microsoft points on the XBL, making it one of the more pricier offerings on each service. This HD port will also come complete with an online matchmaking system, similar to Super Street Fighter IV, which of course the 2001 original lacked.

Sonic Adventure 2 HD Grinds Online This Fall

Posted on July 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sonic Adventure 2, one of the best 3D Sonic titles from the last generation will be grinding its way onto the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation network later this fall. The announcement was made at the San Diego Comic Con, after word about the port leaked online a few months back.

SEGA’s brief trailer announcing the title acknowledges the leaks, stating that the game will “leak on to consoles this fall”. Not much else is known about the HD port of the game but if the 2009 port of Crazy Taxi and the 2010 port of the original Sonic Adventure are any indication they’ll be up-rezed versions of the Dreamcast original with achievements and possibly the GameCube exclusive Battle multiplayer modes.

I’ve played Adventure 2 on both the GameCube and Dreamcast and both versions still remain in my gaming collection until this day. I look forward to grinding down the streets of City Escape on my SOAP shoes.. Damn product placement, it’s still effective 11 years later.

Battlefield 4 Beta Access Included With MOH: Warfighter?

Posted on July 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA’s Origin service may have leaked the existence of Battlefield 4 early. Promotional banners for Medal of Honor: Warfighter promised users who pre-order the game exclusive access to the Battlefield 4 beta. THeadvertisements where spotted by users on NEOGAF and IGN before being pulled by Electronic Arts shortly after their existence was made public.

There is no solid proof that Battlefield 4 is even a real game, these banners are the first public omission of the game, and as such they could have been a mockup or placeholder of some kind. But considering the fact that Battlefield 3 was tested in the manual for the original Medal of Honor and Warfighter was teased in Battlefield 3’s case, there is a precedent for BF4’s existence.

As I feared, the Steam summer sale has continued, and it shows no signs of abating before the 22nd. I tried to fight it, but I eventually gave into the temptation and bought some games. My friend better enjoy Space Marine, because that’s one submarine sandwich that I’ll never be able to eat.

Shortly after 10 AM Pacific Daylight Time, the Steam Summer Sale of 2012 began its second day. The carnage is unspeakable, as Valve continues to ravage the wallets of countless PC gamers. That being said, we’ve posted today’s daily deals below. Anything look enticing?Read More

Steam Summer Sale Begins

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Steam Summer Sale has officially started. Are you ready to throw money at GabeN?

There are a few changes from the last couple of sales. First off, there are no achievement hunts or contests. These have been replaced by “Flash Sales” and “Community Choice” deals. Flash sales last for less than a day (for instance Deus Ex Human Revolution is on sale for $7.50 for the next four and a half hours or so). The “Community Choice” deals are voted on by Steam users and last for 8 hours. At the moment, users can choose between massive discounts on Saints Row: The Third, Batman: Arkham City, and The Witcher 2.

Since the Flash Sales and Community Choice deals may very well change before you read this, we’ll just give a rundown of today’s daily deals.

Video Game Music: Vol 2

Posted on July 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

To view Volume 1, please click here!

As I sit here to write the next song, I am reminded of a song that took my breath away playing the original Assassin’s Creed. City of Jerusalem was the first song that I took notice to in Jesper Kyd’s great soundtrack that took the video game world by storm. The reason I choose City of Jerusalem for this week is because it does something new and bold that video game soundtracks rarely see. It takes a look at a middle eastern view on music and add’s great depth to the series, especially to this particular game in the franchise.

[youtube id=”dHy5tdmCod0″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

The song starts out very slow and methodical; adding wind instruments catching the tranquility of the area when you first hit Jerusalem. This is especially powerful when you land in Jerusalem and notice the huge city surrounded by a huge wall. The powerful imagery is then cast aside by roaming people when the arabic tones come into play. The arabic tones by the man singing and his backup chorus make City of Jerusalem come alive. The beat pickups up, imagining you’re headed into the city as you passerby’s speaking to each other in harmony. Jerusalem then becomes a living city and as your enter the city and you are greeted by the townspeople and as you put your horse’s reigns on wooden piece of block you enter the city where the music ends.

City of Jerusalem adds charm to the franchise in which none have seen before. Kyd’s recognition to the area surrounding the player adds a uniqueness that will be very hard to duplicate for many games to come. This is not the only piece within this great soundtrack that has a lot of these types of songs; you should buy the album from iTunes as soon as you’re done reading this article.

Next week, we head back to the classics. For now, I will leave you with this hint: You’re a winner!
