Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix Confirmed for November Release on Nintendo Switch

Posted on October 22, 2018 by Jason Nason

CIRCLE Entertainment today announced an upcoming November release of Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix on the Nintendo Switch eShop, developed by RideonJapan. This follows the early 2018 release of Mercenaries Saga Chronicles on the Switch eShop, and more recently at retail in the North American market.

This new release in the Mercenaries series will offer familiar gameplay but a separate story and worldview from the Mercenaries Saga trilogy recently seen in Mercenaries Saga Chronicles on Nintendo Switch. It is not an orthodox sequel, nor will players need to have played the original trilogy to fully enjoy the game.

A tactical RPG in the finest traditions of the genre, Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix requires you to carefully utilise varied units and their abilities. Set Leaders to change the flow of battle, level up your units, change classes, manage equipment and make the key choices that will be the difference between victory and defeat!

This all takes place against the backdrop of a storyline revolving around war, betrayal and magical forces! We’ll reveal more about the story ahead of release.

Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix will arrive on the Nintendo Switch eShop in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand in November.

SubaraCity | Review

Posted on September 6, 2018 by Jason Nason

SubaraCity is a city-making puzzle game, giving a fresh spin on the block-matching genre. It’s simple to play and addictive, but needs a little more variety of play.

SubaraCity on Nintendo Switch offers a new twist for puzzle game fans, combining careful planning with relaxing gameplay. You’re not just matching blocks, but you’re city building at the same time.

The game has the same concept as many match-three puzzle games, however in the game you can also match just two adjacent tiles. The goal of the game isn’t to pass a level, but build the largest city you can.

Each of the coloured tiles (three different ones in casual and four colours in normal mode) represent the population of a city. At first the population is low, but as you connect like-coloured tiles they will build up to a denser building. This will grow your “population” and build your score. When you consolidate onto a single plot, other coloured tiles will drop from the top of the screen. You repeat this step to keep building up your city.

Once you connect enough tiles tiles to reach a level 10 space, they will turn into a special building which will be a white. These white tiles can only be joined with another white tile, however once you join white tiles together into gold plots they can’t be joined again.

The game is pretty relaxing and has feels very zen, especially when playing with the relaxing music in the background. As someone who has a lot of fun with city building I easily got lost playing the game.

The game can be played with either the buttons or the touchscreen. It can also be played either on the TV with a controller, tabletop mode or in portable mode.

While you can customize what some of the tile buildings look like, it would have been nice to have a little more customization. Perhaps entire themes based off of different regions with accompanying music. There is also a lack of multiplayer, online, or something in the vein of a time-attack mode.

While the game is pretty light on the extras, SubaraCity only $5 USD in the Nintendo eShop so it’s a good game to pick up if you want to pass the time with a relaxing match game.

Circle bringing JRPG style Shadows of Adam to Switch

Posted on May 20, 2018 by Jason Nason

CIRCLE Entertainment and Something Classic Games have announced that the classically-styled RPG Shadows of Adam is coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Previously released on PC, Mac and Linux, this will be the console debut of the RPG. A game that brings classic JRPGs to mind, it features a compelling story, a unique fast-paced battle system and modernized visuals for a beloved genre.

Here’s the synopsis of the game. Tucked away from the outside world by the impenetrable haze of the Misty Woods, the village of Adam has mostly lived in peace since the days of the Wraith War. Magic, the dark power that fueled that war has vanished. But darkness is descending once more and Adam’s legendary hero, Orazio, is no more.

10 years ago he left without explanation and never returned, leaving his son and adopted daughter to wrestle with the dark secret he left behind—a secret that must now be revealed if the children hope to save both Adam and their departed father, though its revelation could unhinge the world.

The game is said to feature a compelling character driven story with a deep narrative and an interesting plot. The story revolves around 4 main characters: Asrael, Kellan, Curtis and Talon. The game also features some beautiful visuals inspired by classic JRPGs of the SNES-era. It also has an original soundtrack with over 44 tracks.

There isn’t a firm release date set for the game as of yet.

Mr. Pumpkin Adventure | REVIEW

Posted on February 10, 2017 by Jason Nason

Mr. Pumpkin Adventure is a puzzling little game which is so odd that it almost defies description. In the story of the game the protagonist of the game – Mr. Pumpkin adventures in the strange vegetable kingdom only to find his memory.

Basically the game is a point and click (or in the case of the Wii U a tap and tap) game where you try to solve puzzles and advance to the goal. The game pretty much throws you into the thick of things with little explanation. After a brief comic strip style narration you are left to start the game with little idea of what to do. This is where the tapping begins.
