Circle to release Kutar series for 3DS on Thursday

Posted on November 8, 2016 by Jason Nason

What is Kutar? Kutar is the character who has an incredible expressionless emotion that can’t be distinguished by laughing or crying. Kutar is not a dog, cat or bear. Kutar is always Kutar no matter where he is going or doing.

In all seriousness, Kutar is a series of microgames developed by Giga Rensya and being released by Circle Entertainment in North America on Thursday. The games, ten of them in all, each retail for $0.99 USD. It’s not clear if they will be sold as a bundle at this point.

They look pretty crazy, but for such a small price they could be interesting. Kutar definitely looks reminiscent of the Wario Ware series.

Fairune 2 | REVIEW

Posted on November 6, 2016 by Jason Nason

When I played Fairune just under two years ago I fell in love with the simple adventure RPG. Looking and feeling somewhat reminiscent of the early The Legend of Zelda games, the game was wide open and fun to play. Circle and developer Skipmore have followed up the game with the sequel Fairune 2 and have built a game that stays true to the success of the first one while also expanding into a much bigger game.

Fairune 2 is a game that is built on exploration. You’ll need to not only explore the various maps in the game, but also pay close attention to the surroundings. There will be many times in the game when you’ll suddenly find yourself lost without a clue what to do next. Where do you go? The game is built with such subtlety that if you’re just rushing through the game you can very easily overlook something pivotal to progressing in the game.

Circle announces new game Picontier

Posted on September 14, 2016 by Jason Nason

Circle Entertainment announced a new game at the Tokyo Game Show today which is being developed by Skipmore, developers of the Fairune series. The game, titled Picontier, is a pixel art slow living miniscape RPG which allows you to enjoy a slow living on the island.

In the game you spend your time farming, crafting, mining and fishing. And apparently if you’re the adventurous sort, you can take a journey to the dungeons to fight off monsters. What you do in the game and how you spend your time is all up to you as you follow the charming story by communicating with the strange beings on the island.

Designed by indie label SKIPMORE, who are known for their high quality pixel art and sound design, the game will be available in both English and Japanese. The game is currently on Steam Greenlight but is also being planned for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4.

Adventure Labyrinth Story | REVIEW

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Jason Nason

Sometimes there are games, along with movies and other media, where if you haven’t experienced earlier titles in the series then you’re lost. You won’t know who the characters are, their motivations, or what exactly is going on. Luckily Adventure Labyrinth Story isn’t one of those games. While it may technically be the third game in a series, you won’t need to have beaten or even played the first two games.

Adventure Labyrinth Story stands on its own and is definitely something to experience.

Adventure Labyrinth Story takes place in the same locale as Adventure Bar Story and features many of the same characters, except instead of running the bar like the first game you’re instead exploring a mysterious labyrinth which appeared next to the town. And what makes this labyrinth even more mysterious is that every time you enter it the layout has completely changed. But not only will you be going down there blind every time, there are more complications to this exploration.

Circle bringing Polara to 3DS eShop on September 15th

Posted on September 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

Circle Entertainment confirmed today that their localization of Polara will hit the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS in North America on September 15th. The game will be released in the European and Australian eShops on September 22nd.

The game was released in Japan by Flyhigh Works in April of this year.

Polara is a runner where the goal is to keep the hero running while changing the color of the protective clothing of Lara as you pass through the environment. Areas in the city, including the surfaces you she runs on and items in the environment, will change colour from red to blue. If your colour doesn’t match where you are then you wont’ make it through.

It’s like a colour changing runner.

The game looks very simple, but not easy.

Polara will retail for $5.00 USD / €5.00 when it is released.

Ambition of the Slimes | REVIEW

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews for games in the genre, you’ll know that I enjoy turn based strategy role-playing games. I’ve played and loved playing games like Final Fantasy Tactics (and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) in the past, and more recently games like Fire Emblem Fates or Mercenaries Saga 2. So when I learned that Circle was making a spin off of Witch & Hero in this genre I jumped at the chance to check it out.

Ambition of the Slimes is a great molding of the two. The game is very much a strategic role-playing game that also borrows a lot from the simplistic spirit of the Witch & Hero games. It is a very simple game to play, with a lot of the depth left out of the game. You don’t buy weapons, armour, or upgrades. But that lack of depth actually allows for an entirely different level of depth.

Sometimes it pays off to follow game publishers on social media

Posted on August 24, 2016 by Jason Nason

If you’re really into the gaming scene and eat up every tidbit of news out there then you probably follow a slew of gaming websites. From the Gamespots to the IGNs, and Kotaku to Broken Joysticks, following gaming news website is a good way to find out anything and everything from the world of video games.

But it can also be good to follow publishers. Not only will you get some juicy news right from the source, which is where a lot of gaming media get their news (spoiler alert) you can also be treated to some sweet online goodies.

Some publishers share exclusive downloadables like wallpapers, but some also give away free stuff including game codes.
