War Pike Added To Online Monster Slaying Title Dauntless

Posted on November 22, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dauntless is an early access online monster slaying, title not unlike Capcom’s own Monster Hunter, series that offers players the chance to take down larger than life enemies using a variety of different weapons.   The War Pike is a brand-new weapon type coming to the game with this December’s Sharpen Your Skills update. As a polearm the War Pike brings a bit of a difference in terms of gameplay mechanics for seasoned hunters out there who might be sued to the other four weapon classes. Instead of memorizing specific sets of inputs to maximize damage the War Pike allows players to chain basic and heavy attacks together for seamless interwoven combat. As slayers successfully land successive hits their special meter will fill, allowing them to pull

H1Z1 Receives Major Update That Includes New Map and Daily Challenges

Posted on November 20, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Daybreak Studios’ long running battle royal title H1Z1 (formally H1Z1: Just Survive) received a major update late last week that adds a brand-new combat focused map called Combat Zone, new daily challenges and a whole lot of miscellaneous bug fixes / quality of life improvements that may help players climb the ranks and be the last one standing.  Combat Zone differs from the regular wide open forest area map in a number of ways: first and foremost there is no parachuting into position. Instead all players start already on the ground with a full loadout of equipment, so there’s no more rushing to find a shotgun, pistol or rusty work.. You know whatever happens to be lying around.

Clockwork City DLC Now Available On Elder Scrolls Online Public Test Realm

Posted on September 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

A world of interlocking gears, steam power, golden metal, and robots might sound like a steampunk paradise envisioned by the wildest visionaries of the Victorian age of sci-fi but I’m actually describing the broad aesthetics of The Elder Scrolls Online‘s next major expansion known as The Clockwork City. Owners of The Elder Scrolls Online willing to install the near 80GB Public Test Region’s in-development client can accept the quest to explore the weirdly wonderful world of the Clockwork God,  Sotha Sil.  Here is Bethesda’s brief description of this new DLC zone and how players can accept the introductory quest: Clockwork City. Venture to the bizarre realm of Sotha Sil, the Clockwork God

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Launch Trailer Released

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is out on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This standalone sequel to last year’s Dishonored II also provides Billie Lurk with the starring role as the playable protagonist for this entry in the Dishonored franchise.  Billie does not have “the mark of the outsider”, instead she has her own unique set of abilities allowing her to plan a bank heist, enter underground fight clubs and ultimately take down the Outsider and bring a close to the plotline of Dishonored II.  Content Warning: Bethesda’s recently released launch trailer does mature content including graphic violence and at least one beheading.

Sine Mora EX Has A Date With The Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sine Mora EX – the beautiful 2.5D shoot’em up co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Digital Reality makes a pass at the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe thanks to THQ Nordic. In this sometimes-brutal bullet hell title, players guide a three-dimensional ship along the X and Y axis while avoiding the sea of oncoming bullets. Complimenting the vibrant art style is a unique health mechanic where each stage has an allotted amount of time – taking damage speeds up the countdown while routing enemies adds time back to the countdown clock.  Several enhancements have been made when compared with the 2012 original for the Nintendo Switch release including support for 16:9 resolutions, full English voice over, an improved

Otaku stereotype and laser sword enthusiast, Travis Touchdown, returns to a Nintendo console with the reveal of No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again for the Nintendo Switch due out in 2018. In the self-aware and stylish in-engine trailer – Travis gives the viewer a basic rundown of his world. As the worlds top assassin Travis loves a few things in life: namely gaming, killing, and anime. When antagonist The Bat comes to collect on al old debt Travis is sucked into “the phantom game console” towards the climax of the brief video. All of this is an allusion to an

Four New State of Decay 2 Screenshots Released At GamesCom 2017

Posted on August 22, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Microsoft alongside State of Decay 2 developer Undead Labs released four new screenshots and a brand new trailer for the 2018 survival title at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. State of Decay 2 is, of course, a direct sequel to the 2012 Xbox 360 original that was ported to Windows PC a year later. Like its predecessor, SoD2 will allow players to immerse themselves in a single-player experience where they must team up with other survivors and build settlers to keep themselves safe from the oncoming hordes of the head. New features and changes from the original game are to be

An Extended Look At The Cancelled Doom 4

Posted on August 2, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last year’s Doom reboot was both a critical and commercial success that build upon the gruesome nature of the franchise’s past while introducing new mechanics like weapons with secondary modes and dismemberment. Before the “back to basics” reboot of “Doom” there was a numbered sequel in development at id that would see multiple iterations and reboots in the midst of a buyout by Zenimax (owners of Bethesda). Detailed in an excellent piece by Kotaku’s Jason Schreir in 2013: The project then known as “Doom 4” entered development sometime in 2007 and continued until ZeniMax acquired id Software in 2011. At

Watching Four People Speed Run Pokemon Red Simultaneously Is Oddly Captivating

Posted on July 31, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Take a trip back in time with me, not too far, but to SGDQ 2016. Last year the folks at Summer Games Done Quick hosted a four way race between Gunnermaniac3, Keizaron, Extratricky and Exarionu to see who could complete Nintendo’s Pokemon Red with the fastest time. The Pokemon games have had a dedicated speed running community for some time and while I can’t profess to be anything other than a casual consumer of speed run content, I find these runs in particular absolutely fascinating. Perhaps it is the fact that the generation 1 Pokemon titles have been distilled down

Kingdom Hearts III Visits The World of Toy Story, Release Window Announced

Posted on July 15, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

At the D23 Expo Square Enix dropped a brand new 5-minute trailer for the conclusion of Sora’s adventures, Kingdom Hearts III. For the first time in franchise history players will guide Sora & friends through a world based off of a Pixar property – fittingly enough it is based upon the first film to put Pixar on the map, 1995’s Toy Story. Watching Buzz and Woody interact with Sora, Donald and Goofy is a treat in itself but this new footage has so much more to offer us. Sora using a hand drill to launch spikes out of the ground?

Player Made FFXIV Music Video Is a Work of Art

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Final Fantasy XIV YouTuber denmomcstronghuge has been publishing videos set in Eorzea for awhile now but his latest work – “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” – is both a stunning tribute to the many different zones featured in the game’s latest expansion and a marvel of editing mastery. It is easy to see why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” will be appealing to both longtime players, newcomers and even those unfamiliar with the MMORPG. The video featuring some catchy Japanese Electronica and breathtaking time lapse panoramas as we follow a female Aura through some of Stormblood’s new zones. This is only the tip of the iceberg as to why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” is such an achievement. Denmo’s seamless editing makes it appear

Spider-Man Does Whatever A Spider Can In First PS4 Footage

Posted on June 13, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

It has been awfully quiet on the Spider-Man front as of late. Oh sure, there is a huge co-produced Marvel & Sony Pictures film coming out next month but I meant in terms of Insomniac’s web-slinging simulator announced at E3 2016. A year later and Sony closed their press conference last night with an [X] demo, surely they were hoping to wow the crowd by recreating Spider-Man’s signature moves in video game form. The demo picks up with Spidey taking on a series of henchmen on the inside of an unfinished skyscraper. Spidey dodges, leaps and performs acrobatics exactly like

Posted on June 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft announced a brand new IP at their E3 press conference this afternoon, the swashbuckling multiplayer title Skull & Bones. Players try to work their way up the pirate food chain to amass riches across multiple trade routes on the Indian Ocean as a freelance pirate captian. Taking place in an online open world that is persistent – the obstacles players have to face are ever changing – whether those are raging storms, rough seas or other pirates looking to sink their ship. Players will create their own custom pirate avatar through a character creator and can play by themselves,

State of Decay 2 Brings Post Apocalyptic Scares Next Spring

Posted on June 11, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

State of Decay 2’s trailer asks us the hard questions about surviving in an urban post apocalyptic hell-scape like:  “who do you decide to save?” and “do you kill a friend or do everything you can to save them?”. Player choice, player action and the consequences of both of those are front and center during the gameplay reveal trailer shown at Microsoft’s E3 press conference earlier today. We see the survivors make choices like where to build their settlements, whether or not to give a party member the last remaining antidote and whether or not to take revenge against the
