The world of Azeroth has existed online for over two decades, drawing in more than 100 million registered accounts as the game expanded through regular expansions. Now, Blizzard’s latest release—World of Warcraft: Forever—returns to the spirit of 2004, trading end-of-the-world stakes for personal adventuring and connecting with friends. Following a successful beta test last month, World of Warcraft: Forever is now live for all active and returning subscribers.
Unlike World of Warcraft: Classic, which recreates the original 2004 experience with minor quality-of-life tweaks, Forever explores an alternate timeline: What if adventurers never stepped through the Dark Portal in The Burning Crusade, and Blizzard instead continued expanding Azeroth with new content, quests, zones, and class tweaks? That “what-if” scenario is the foundation of World of Warcraft: Forever.

Retaining the original 2004 level cap, players peak at level 60—a cap the developers confirmed will never rise. Instead of constant power creep, Forever emphasizes horizontal progression, allowing adventurers to team up with friends to earn exclusive gear loaded with unique perks.
New zones introduced in Forever include:
-
Mount Hyjal – A previously unfinished area that never made it into the original release.
-
Darkwhisper Gorge & Shen’dralas – Expanded regions offering fresh storylines and challenges.
Alongside these territories comes a brand-new playable race: the Skyborne (or shen’dorei), blue-hued elves boasting unique wind-based racial traits. Their journey begins in the new level 1–12 starting zone, Zephras Isle. True to the spirit of choice, Skyborne characters can align with either the Horde or the Alliance.

WoW: Forever packs in far more than a single article can hold. Players can look forward to new race/class combinations, toggleable HD visuals alongside 2004-era graphics settings, a new campsite system for resting alongside fellow travelers, and a full slate of server types including PvP, PvE, RP, and RP-PvP.
World of Warcraft: Forever is available now on PC and Mac, included at no extra cost with any standard World of Warcraft subscription. We’ll be diving in and sharing our full impressions soon. Will you be joining us in Azeroth?
