CliffyB Compares Overwatch To Digital “Rock, Paper, Scissors”

Posted on June 23, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Team-based, hero focused first person shooters are all the rage right now and the undisputed king is Blizzard’s Overwatch. In an interview, CliffyB compared Blizzard’s latest success to a digital game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Our comrades at Eurogamer had a chance to sit down with CliffyB at E3 last week about his new game, Lawbreakers. Comparisons to Overwatch wasn’t the only thing that CliffyB discussed, he was asked about the chance that the game might have cross-play between a potential console version and the already playable PC game. He shot the idea down saying: “We like money and we like to keep the

Overwatch passes 7 million players

Posted on June 3, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

We all knew it would be big, but im not sure that anyone could have predicted that almost 2/3 of the people who played in the free beta would end up paying for the game. Seven million players have played overwatch during this its first week of existence. To put that in perspective the last COD sold a total of 5 million copies, and with in a few weeks its player population had dropped to less than one million. Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said “Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and

Purfect Team: Overwatch Kitties

Posted on June 2, 2016 by Renee Gittins

A friend recently shared with me some Overwatch art from the talented artist 솔져앓이 릴루. As the internet absolutely loves Overwatch right now, and has always loved cats, I thought that I just had to share these cute kitty heroes! Below is cat fan art for 18 of the 21 heroes in Overwatch, only the three non-human heroes have been excluded (Bastion, Winston and Zenyatta). A little skill with Photoshop or Gimp can turn these images into your very own team composition. I’ve shared my own above! Symmetra looking stoic and regal, while Mei sits next to her; cute, fluffy and joyful!

Overwatch – A Refreshingly Stylish Shooter | Review

Posted on June 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

In-universe, when the world needed the heroes of Overwatch they were nowhere to be found but thankfully they’ve come to our consoles & PCs at just the right time to save us from the onslaught of generic grey/brown FPS games. This is not only Blizzard Entertainment’s first original intellectual property in 17 years but also the company’s first foray into team based First Person shooters. Can the folks at Blizzard capture the objective and prove that they can still innovate or is Overwatch a causality of its own hype? It is almost impossible to talk about Overwatch without acknowledging what

Overwatch myths are just too cool

Posted on June 1, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

So if your alive, and awake at all, you probably have been playing Overwatch, Blizzards huge new shooter. I my self have spent about 40 hours playing since the games release just over a week ago. I often found my self wondering if some of the more prevalent “myths” about the game are real or fake. Well DefendTheHouse (of mythbusters halo fame) is here to answer your questions. With this second volume they are covering many popular myths like can you block a Hanzo ultimate with a D.iVa shield? and can Bastion kill people by landing on them. Take a gander at

These Awesome Overwatch Moments Will Leave You In Awe

Posted on May 26, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Overwatch has only been out three days but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a shortage of awesome moments, partially thanks to the closed beta that was everywhere for several months, and partially thanks to the fact that Overwatch is the only thing the internet can talk about right now. The moments I’ve selected below range from the jaw dropping (the reaper kill-streak) to the dark and twisted (scroll down to the last one). If you have your own GIF of an awesome play make sure to share it in the comments. Reaper Kills Everyone via GIPHY Torbjorn Takes Out Two Tanks

If you missed the beta or are looking for some tips, we’ve complied a list that will help ensure you enter the world of Overwatch with guns blazing: Counter Pick – One of the key features of Overwatch is the ability to change heroes in the middle of a match. This allows you to adapt

Overwatch’s beta gets a cinematic Trailer

Posted on May 3, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Overwatch may not have a dedicated story mode, but Blizzard is doing a good job telling its story through little vignettes and other lore material. Now with the open beta just one day away the masses have been given one more cinematic teaser, this time with a distinct recruitment feeling It features the same character that was present in the last short Winston, who further explains the back story of the omnic crisis and the world of Overwatch, then implores you to return and “do something” to make a difference. The short then closes with “are you with me” and

Overwatch Abominations – A New Glitch has Disturbing Results

Posted on April 18, 2016 by Renee Gittins

One of the joys of playing games still in development is the discovery of bugs and other glitches that have amusing results. Sometimes these even make it out of the betas and into the released games themselves, like the flying horse of Skyrim. This latest glitch is one that I hope to see continue to live on. During the Overwatch stress test this last weekend, one of the members of my guild discovered a glitch in Overwatch that allowed you to force a texture on another character’s model. Some of the results are quite humorous while others border terrifying. My personal

Overwatch to have a “semi-open” beta weekend

Posted on April 13, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

So if you like me are still not in the Overwatch beta, and you haven’t given up on the game you might get your first chance at playing this weekend. Blizzard will expand the amount of players in the beta for 36 hours starting April 15th. Blizzard’s announcement stated “Since this is a stress test, we’re primarily interested in technical feedback, like how Overwatch runs on players’ systems, critical bug reports, and other game-impacting problems, One of our goals is to push our hardware to the limit, so players shouldn’t be surprised if they experience performance issues or run into

Brand New Overwatch Short ‘Alive’ Debuts

Posted on April 3, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Overwatch Alive Short
Blizzard’s marketing blitz for their upcoming team shooter Overwatch with the release of a brand new 6 minute self contained animated short. This time things focus on the French assassin Widowmaker, as she moves in for the kill on a VIP in Kings Row. It’s really cool to see Blizzard using the in-game levels as the setting for their animated shorts. Does Widowmaker get the kill? You’ll have to keep watching until the end to find out! This short’s narration opens with the chilling “When I was little I had a fear of spiders…”, just how do the arachnids factor

Overwatch weekly brawls dug up by data miners

Posted on March 28, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

If you are not in the Overwatch beta (like me) then you probably missed the most recent set of patch notes which added a new mode similar to Hearthstone’s tavern brawl. Now data miners have found a cache of data which seems to name all of the brawls that will be playable. Lets get right to it here is what Overpwn found Super Shimada Bros.: Welcome to Hanamura. Genji and Hanzo only. Faster abilities, slower ultimates. Mystery Heroes: On death you will respawn as a randomly selected hero. Justice Rains From Above: Pharah and Mercy take to the skies. Arcade: More
