Make Money From League of Legends, Officially

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Today Riot Games released a brief guide (in plain English, not legalese) officially informing the League of Legends community that they fully allow not only the production and uploading of League of Legends content on video sites such as YouTube and Twitch.tv, but also the collection of advertising revenue associated with such content by the producers. This was done to remove any ambiguity regarding the legal problems that could potentially arise from someone broadcasting (and making money from) intellectual property that is owned by someone else.

In the past few months, the number of popular professional players who occasionally stream their games live online has increased dramatically, even receiving front page news coverage on Riot’s LoL site. And the public launch of a full Spectator Mode last month has also increased the amount of amateur commentary tracks to be found on YouTube. Today’s official announcement puts to rest any concerns that such content producers could possibly be committing any kind of copyright infringement, especially in light of controversies surrounding the embattled Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the United States, and similar legislation currently under discussion in other countries.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare | Review

Posted on May 28, 2012 by Andrew Minott

This week, on Night Springs….

Now available on PC, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, a quasi-sequel to Remedy Entertainment’s 2010 third-person adventure Alan Wake, is so concerned with name-dropping and referencing its predecessor that it never really finds a strong voice of its own. While this game is not true DLC for the original, neither the premise, the dialogue, nor the combat will make sense to those who have not completed Alan’s initial story. Nor, I suspect, would they care.Read More

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Andrew Minott

In the wake of the announcement of the closing of Kingdoms of Amalur developers 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, a large number of gaming  professionals took to Twitter to post notices of job openings in the industry under the hashtag #38jobs.

Companies such as Epic Games, Microsoft, Bethesda/Zenimax, Insomniac, Blizzard (with a reported 110 openings), and dozens more responded in merely a few hours, encouraging those affected by the layoffs to send in their applications. Unfortunately, as the hashtag became more popular, Twitter spambots decided to descend upon the proceedings, resulting in a very poor noise-to-signal ratio.Read More

The Top 5 Songs That Would Get Me To Spend Money On Rock Band

Posted on May 21, 2012 by Andrew Minott

I have a love/hate relationship with Rock Band.

That’s not exactly accurate.

When it first came out, I hated it (because I hated Guitar Hero). Then in early 2008 I moved into a house with three other guys, and they all loved Rock Band. And then I did too. Now I haven’t touched it in two years, though I remember the time we spent together fondly. So really, my relationship with Rock Band is hate/love/sexless marriage. Those two years ago, I bought the Lady Gaga track pack (don’t judge me) and the AFI Crashlove pack (I SAID DON’T). Since then, though, I haven’t noticed anything that has been put up on the marketplace that would inspire an end to my music game famine.

So what would it take?Read More
