You may have heard that NIS America recently released Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl on Blu-ray in North America. New Hundred Knight Screens Rise From The Swamp

Posted on January 3, 2014 by Les Major

Back to news about our friends over at NIS America, there are some new screens out today for the English version of The Witch and the Hundred Knight. The game itself, due out this March on PS3, is focused on the Hundred Knight, your character. You’re as a servant to the swamp witch Metallia. It’s your job to help her expand her swamp all over the world of Medea by destroying pillars that are holding it back.

The latest press release that came with these screens brings up the questions: “What prevents Metallia from leaving the swamp? Why do the other witches shun her, and how can she survive in a swamp that is notorious for how poisonous its fumes are? Is Metallia really a witch to respect, or is she one to fear?” Read More

The Guided Fate Paradox | Review

Posted on November 9, 2013 by Les Major

Taking a look at Celestia as the main focus instead of the Netherworld makes The Guided Fate Paradox a fresh and interesting title by the development team behind Disgaea. Much like the games setting, the system involved is unique as well. Technically you can think of this as angels and demons being trained differently, though you’re really training a new “god” in Guided Fate.

Basically it seems like Celestia is looking for a new “god” to take over, and unlucky teenager Renya Kagurazaka has won a magical lottery that has chosen him as the new candidate to become “god” of Celestia, or at least your section of it. With the assistance of a new angel recruit being his guide, Renya learns how to use the Fate Revolution Circuit to answer prayers.Read More

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness | Review

Posted on November 8, 2013 by Les Major

Finally, celebrating ten years later, we have a sequel to the original Disgaea. This all new game focuses again on Laharl, Etna, and Flonne after the events of the original. If you enjoyed the first game, odds are you’ll enjoy this one as well. It’ll draw you in, get you addicted, and leave you wanting to do just a few more item world runs.

The first thing I noticed about D2 is that the levels are well crafted. While this is nothing new for the series, they seem just as solid here. In some ways, the occasional one seems to be a bit more of a puzzle than usual. Of course, most of the time you can rush in if you’ve been grinding away for levels, but even then sometimes that doesn’t promise victory.Read More

Disgaea D2 Isn’t A Remake, It’s A Sequel

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Les Major

With our review for Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness just around the corner, I wanted to address fans who aren’t quite sure of what they’ve seen on the store shelves as of late. Disgaea D2, or Disgaea Dimension 2 as it’s known in Japan, is a direct sequel to the original title released ten years ago. Though even if you’ve never played a game in the series before, you won’t be left out in the dark. It’s easy to get into. Spoilers follow, but if you’re looking for reasons to pick it up, read on!Read More

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory | Review

Posted on September 8, 2013 by Les Major

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is the third in the series but was story friendly enough for me to be able to dive in and enjoy the game, even with it being my first adventure in this universe. The game feels like a hybrid between a visual novel and a JRPG. Not in the sense that you’re trying to date anyone, but more so the fact that there is just so much character interaction involved in the game; you do feel like you’re watching a visual novel, rather than playing a typical JRPG.Read More

D00D! Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness Gets New Trailer

Posted on August 30, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Want to see a new trailer for NIS America’s upcoming Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness? Well d00d you’re in luck because we’ve got a new look at their latest chapter in the long running RPG series thanks to a new trailer released for the European market.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness canonically takes place between the first title and Disgaea 2. Things aren’t are all sunshine and rainbows in the Netherworld , as the dangerous Celestial flower threatens to pollutes the world’s atmosphere. One of the coolest gameplay additions is the ability to have members of your party ride monsters! Can I get a giant prinny and ride him around town? That would be AWESOME!

D2 is already out in it’s native Japan and will be released in Europe on September 27th and October 8th in North America. Check out the new trailer after the jump.Read More

The Guided Fate Paradox Begins This Fall

Posted on July 27, 2013 by Les Major

NIS titles are no stranger to heaven and hell inspired themes in their games with Disgaea and several others in their library. So it shouldn’t be too surprising when we say The Guided Fate Paradox focuses on a high school student named Renya who becomes a “god” by winning a lottery in a mall. As such, Renya travels through a reflection of the real world known as the Copy World to answer peoples wishes.

Interestingly, the game is being developed by the same team as Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. However, as much as the game looks like your usual tactical adventure, the YouTube page notes the game as an “extremely approachable roguelike RPG”. It should be interesting to see how that plays out. Want to see more? Check out the trailer after the break.Read More

Laharl, Etna, and Flonne Return This Fall

Posted on July 27, 2013 by Les Major

You’ve quested after Overlord Zenon as Adell, and even gone to school to learn it’s good to be bad at what you do, nevermind your stop over with Marona in Phantom Brave and leading your army in Makai Kingdom to save Lord Zetta’s Netherworld. This fall for the 10th anniversary of Disgaea’s original release, it’s time to reunite with the original cast in an all new game!

While we have seen cameo appearances in the past, Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness will see familiar faces and all new characters in the familiar gameplay you’ve come to love. For me, this series was an instant hit. It’s fantastic news to see it expanding yet again. Check out D2’s second trailer after the break.Read More

Time and Eternity | Review

Posted on July 16, 2013 by Les Major

If you’re looking for a slower paced RPG with action based combat and romantic anime overtones with occasional lightly perverted jokes, this title is for you. Time and Eternity is a game you relax to since it does take a decent amount of time to play through. Combat especially can be quite lengthy and the battlefield areas can have quite a bit of ground to cover. This review contains early on spoilers.Read More

Time and Eternity Animation Looks Beautiful!

Posted on July 3, 2013 by Les Major

Coming on July 16th, the latest NIS America import by Namco Bandai and Imageepoch features some beautiful animation for 2D characters. The battle scenes, featured in the video after the break, really show just how smooth the flow is. Imageepoch, who made Black ★ Rock Shooter PSP Game, are also behind Time and Eternity. Both games have over the shoulder style combat, so it should be interesting to see if T&E plays similar.Read More
