Medal Of Honor: Warfighter And Linkin Park Team Up

Posted on August 4, 2012 by Seung Lee

MoH

Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly Linkin Park, but Mike Shinoda, the man behind the popular band (and Fort Minor, a hip-hop side project), is composing the music for Electronic Arts’s upcoming game, Medal of Honor: Warfighter. This isn’t the first time that Shinoda has composed for others, however. He was behind The Raid: Redemption‘s soundtrack, which wasn’t too bad, if I do say so myself. EA’s main competitior, Activision, has called on Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails to compose Call of Duty: Black Ops II‘s theme song, and he wrote the tracks for the films, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network.

In addition, Danger Close, the developer of Warfighter, and Digital Domain, a special effects studio, collaborated on a music video for Linkin Park’s song, Castle of Glass, from its recent Living Things album. The video will be finished in October, and it’ll mix live action footage with gameplay from the new Medal of Honor.

According to the press release from EA, players will “explore planets, harvest loot, and fight asynchronously alongside or against friends to master a wild, untamed universe.” Don’t think that Outernauts is just a simple flash game to waste an hour or two on though. Ted Price, President and Founder of Insomniac Games, says that by  “bringing the breadth and elements of console gaming to a social game, we hope to give our fans—both old and new—a unique gaming experience on Facebook.”

Battlefield 4 Beta Access Included With MOH: Warfighter?

Posted on July 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA’s Origin service may have leaked the existence of Battlefield 4 early. Promotional banners for Medal of Honor: Warfighter promised users who pre-order the game exclusive access to the Battlefield 4 beta. THeadvertisements where spotted by users on NEOGAF and IGN before being pulled by Electronic Arts shortly after their existence was made public.

There is no solid proof that Battlefield 4 is even a real game, these banners are the first public omission of the game, and as such they could have been a mockup or placeholder of some kind. But considering the fact that Battlefield 3 was tested in the manual for the original Medal of Honor and Warfighter was teased in Battlefield 3’s case, there is a precedent for BF4’s existence.

Build Your Own Metropolis With Sim City 5 and Sim City Social

Posted on June 4, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Arts promises that the SimCity franchise will “reclaim the city building crown” with the release of SimCity five and SimCity Social for Facebook.

The SimCity 5 demo highlighted the brand-new engine the developed for the title, called the Glass Engine. For the first time ever the SimCity franchise is taken into the multiplayer space with challenges and online play. You’ll be able to play against friends or take on players in your region. Decisions that you make will affect not only your city but those around you.

The SimCity 5 engine looks promising, with detailed buildings that seemed to almost construct themselves and individual cars that drive along your cities’ streets. the second trailer even hinted at some of the disasters that we may see in the game including a T Rex attack, surprisingly there was a subtle reference to 1996’s Sim Copter with the inclusion of a helicopter as the logo zooms out.

Details surrounding SimCity Social were scant, the brief trailer showcased traditional two-dimensional artwork reminiscent of the earlier sin city games. The trailer even took jabs at Zyngas city bill promising that SimCity social will be “less ville & more city”.Read More

EA Admits to Poor Origin Communication

Posted on May 3, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Origin, Electronic Art’s digital distribution platform that has been around for just over a year now has turned to its user base to help get some corners smoothed out. EA, admitting they could have done a better job in “communicating what’s available” is hoping to improve this by asking its 9.3 million registered users for some feedback on the issue.

Despite the $100 million Origin generated in 2011, and which continues to grow with the addition of new publishing partners, they still want to make Origin more user friendly and is confident that it’s user base will be able to express their concerns so that they may be able to make the platform more streamlined.

Continuing The Origin Conversation currently has 900 comments with many users hoping for a more streamline front page, less hassle with accounts and DRM, as well as little requests such as an overlay clock are common requests. EA will be hosting a live Q&A session with product manager Mike Lewis and creative director Robert Kissinger, in which they intend to address as many of these problems as possible. This session will be held on May 8th at 10:00AM PDT.

Star Wars the Old Republic Already In Decline

Posted on April 20, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Star Wars: The Old Republic might already be on the downslide. A new analyst report from Cowen and Company has is suggesting that the ambitious new MMO has been facing a decline in subscriptions, with a peak of 1.7 million players in February down to a forecasted 1.25 million at the end of the fiscal year.

Analyst Doug Creutz believes that EA’s heavy marketing could be a sign that a decline is a very real threat. Including offering free trial subscriptions and free-periods for already invested gamers, this has been causing quite a stir within the fan community.

Electronic Arts Set To Lay Off Up To 1000

Posted on April 16, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Electronic Arts has announced  a companywide lay off from between 500-1000 people. A number that will result in having 5%-11%  of their staff back out on the job market. This lay off was originally planned to happen last Monday (4/9) but was pushed back. It has been confirmed that they are coming very soon however.

After EA’s plummeting stock prices dropping from a once lofty $61 per share has recently fallen to $16 per share. While being speculated to keep falling. This is believed to have been caused by 2011 not having as many big blockbuster hits aside from Battlefield 3,  highly underwhelming success from Star Wars: The Old Republic, and high marketing costs. Additionally The Consumerist naming the company as the “Worst Company In America” recently, may have the higher ups considering some restructuring.
