Nintendo Announces a Second Beta For Splatoon

Posted on May 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo of America has confirmed that they will hold a second Global Test Fire for their colorful upcoming third person shooter Splatoon. If you already have the Global Test Fire Demo installed on your Wii U you should be good to go, otherwise make sure to grab it before the one hour stress test on May 23rd between 3pm – 4pm (Pacific Time).

Splatoon was announced during E3 2014. It is a third person action title for the Wii U where players take the role of adolescent Squids who can transform into humanoid shape. Instead of focusing on the kill/death ratio that other shooters rely on, the Turf War multiplayer mode in Splatoon are all about the amount of ground your team is able to cover with colorful ink.

Splatoon’s full version will be available on May 29th for $69.99 USD.

Sony Begins Sending Out PlayStation Now Beta Invites

Posted on January 29, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last evening Sony began sending out invites for their upcoming PlayStation Now game streaming service, IGN.com has reported. The streaming service is entering a small closed beta period ahead of its official release sometime later this year and requires a 5MB internet connection and the use of a PlayStation 3 is recommended according to the invite email.

PlayStation Now is an online streaming service that will allow gamers to play titles from the console maker’s nearly 20 year history on the PlayStation 3, PS4 as well as Sony Bravia televisions and Smart Phones. The technology behind PlayStation Now based off of GaiKai’s streaming services, whom Sony purchased for $380 million dollars in 2012.

We don’t have a definitive list of launch titles for PlayStation Now but when the service was shown at CES 2014 both Beyond Two Souls and The Last of Us were both playable. We also do not have details on a pricing structure, launch window or whether or not PlayStation Now will tie into PlayStation Plus.

If you got into the beta, we’re super jealous!

Progress Of The Starbound Beta

Posted on December 10, 2013 by Les Major

Chucklefish, the developer behind the recent Terraria-like space adventure, has kept beta players going with lots of fast and furious updates. They’ve actually apologized for a slow update progress, which is surprising since they only released the beta on December 4th and this is already the second patch sent out today. Perhaps there was mention of an update sooner on their forums or such.

So far Starbound has been lots of fun! Unlike Terraria, you planet hop in your space ship you can beam up to from each planets surface. Things such as coal and wood can power your ships fuel up, allowing you to go out into a star chart and pick what planet you want to visit next. Also, planets are looping environments, so there’s no massive ocean blocking off either side of the map. Read on for Read More

F.E.A.R Online Revealed, Beta Applications Open

Posted on July 26, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Horror goes free to play with the announcement of the closed beta for F.E.A.R online. Aeria games raised the curtain on the title earlier in the week, providing not only a reveal trailer but also an open application for the game’s upcoming closed beta test.

Alma Wade, the icon little girl featured in the game’s marketing, has been scaring gamers since the first F.E.A.R was released in 2005 for the Xbox 360 and PC. Since then we’ve had two proper sequels, 2009’s F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin and 2011’s F.E.A.R 3.

F.E.A.R Online is a continuation of Monolith’s original horror FPS, being developed by Inplay Interactive. It will feature the Soul King mode, originally introduced in F.E.A.R 3, as well a story driven component that will continue the narrative beyond the first three titles.

You’ll need an Aeria Games account to access the beta registration page, no word yet on when F.E.A.R Online will be available to general public.Read More

God of War Ascension Beta Releases Fury On PSN This Jan

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

If you’re a Playstation Plus member it is not just free games that you will get to enjoy early next year. The multiplayer beta version of God of War Ascension will hit the PlayStation store next month but those of you who completed the Rise of the Warrior social game earlier in the year will be able to jump in on the gore filled madness on December 16th.

God of War Ascension was announced at this year’s E3 expo and brings multiplayer to the series for the first time in its five game history. Developed by series creators Sony’s Santa Monica Studios this entry shakes things up a bit by featuring a single player story that has a revised weapon system and a “prompt-less combat” which does away with the traditional quick time events in favor of a more button mashy configuration.

The beta will feature two modes – Team Favor of the Gods and Free for All Favor of the Gods. You earn points via kills, opening chests or holding certain objectives. The full game will be available on March 12th 2013 in North America.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Open Beta This Weekend

Posted on October 4, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Still sitting on the fence about EA’s Medal of Honor Warfighter? An open Beta for Xbox Live gold members will go live tomorrow morning and last until Sunday. For Canadians, like me, this means a Thanksgiving filled with bullets, kills and certainly swearing teenagers over Xbox Live headsets.

The beta features a territories style gameplay mode called ‘Hospot’. This mode has two opposing teams rushing to secure moving control points, similar to a king of the hill match. Only one map will be playable in the beta, ‘Sarajevo Stadium’, which takes place in Bosnia.

Will you be gearing up to join the battle? The Battlefeild 3 Beta last year was a huge deal and lasted 2 weeks. I don’t really see Warfighter drumming up the same buzz.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Open Beta Begins Early Next Month

Posted on September 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA’s next military first person shooter, Medal of Honor Warfighter, will get the open beta treatment on Xbox Live early next month according to the company. If you are on the fence as to whether or not the next MOH will fill this season’s shooter gap, this gives you a chance to get it out at no risk!

EA has stated that if 3 million players download the beta they will release a music video inspired by Medal of Honor featuring Linkin Park’s Castle of Glass Single. They also reminded everyone that if you pre-purchase the game before its October 23rd release they’ll throw in the Bin Laden Raid inspired DLC for free.

Killing terrorists AND a free weekend of gaming? AMERICA **** YEAH! (even though I am Canadian).

DUST 514’s Mercenary Pack Is Now Available

Posted on June 26, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

However, this is not the case, the Beta event that begins on Thursday is actually a closed beta open to those who have a redeemable invite code via dust 514’s official website or for those who purchased the mercenary pack on the PlayStation network.

CCP’s Free-To-Play person shooter tie-in to the Eve Online universe, Dust 514, will begin its first open  invite only beta on the PlayStation Network this weekend. If you’re looking for an advantage during the large-scale warfare and mayhem that Dust 514 sure to bring then perhaps you’d be interested in the “Mercenary Pack”, a collection of for purchasable items.

The Mercenary Pack is priced at 19.99 USD and is available on the PlayStation store right now.
