The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Announced By CD Projekt RED

Posted on February 5, 2013 by Joshua Rust

The ever popular magazine Game Informer has just revealed their cover for their March issue. On that cover is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED’s next installment to The Witcher franchise. The writer of the article forGame Informer, Adam Biessner, gave this quote to get you drooling in anticipation for this issue to reach your eyes:

“Our March cover story gives a world-exclusive peek into the next generation of RPGs with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This standalone sequel takes the fascinating stories and characters, non-linear plotlines, and difficult decisions that the franchise is known for and puts them all in an open world 30 times larger than the previous game – an enormous setting even larger than Skyrim’s vast expanse, made possible with the new REDengine 3 technology that developer CD Projekt RED is debuting with the game.”

There have been statements released about the size of this open world being around 20% larger than Bethesda’s TES V: Skyrim. Hopefully in this game they will stick to what the roots of a Witcher actually is: a monster hunter. It has also been said that you will be able to research tactics, via books and townsfolk, in order to take monsters down – with time of day/night being a factor in how you handle some of these creatures.

It sounds like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to be amazing…and we just barely began to hear details about it!

Game Informer has also posted up a video for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt detailing what you can expect in the upcoming sequel:

[youtube id=”8gIsYuPIKco” width=”600″ height=”350″]

So when can you get your hands onThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?CD Projekt RED states that it will release 2014 on PC and “all high-end platforms available.” Which basically means to us Playstation 4 and whatever the heck Microsoft is calling their new system (presumably just Xbox).

Superheroes Battle It Out For Fan Votes In WB’s New Campaign

Posted on February 5, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

We already knew that our favorite DC Comics characters were going to duke it out in NetherRealm Studio’s Injustice: Gods Among Us, but what we didn’t know was that the WB planned to launch a popularity contest weeks before the game’s release. Obviously this is meant as a way to drum up hype and support for the title before its April release, but this certainly is a neat approach.

Dubbed the “Battle Arena,” every week for the next 10 weeks, Warner Bros will pit two characters against each other, with fan votes determining the winner. Each week a pre-match video will be released showcasing the combatant for that round. Fan opinion is gauged through Facebook and Twitter and a final video showcasing the results of fan opinion is released that same Thursday.

So the whole thing is kind of like March Madness, except with super heroes instead of basketball teams!

We’ve got the first pre-match video in the embedded player after the jump. Who will you vote for me? I think every vote I will cast will be for Batman, because… he’s fucking Batman, I don’t need another reason.

Correction: The original version of this post incorrectly stated that Injustice was being published by Konami. The game is in fact published by Warner Bros. InteractiveRead More

Kids Everywhere Rejoice As Skylanders SWAP Force Confirmed

Posted on February 5, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

UPDATE: The official announcement trailer has been released – see below!

Following up on news that Activision had silently registered several domain names for a possible Skylanders sequel, the publisher has unveiled Skylander’s SWAP Force for release presumably this fall on major console platforms (with no specifics available as of yet).

SWAP Force’s new gameplay mechanic gives players the ability to customize their figures by swapping parts around. With 16 new swapable characters, kids are able to modify their characters attributes, move sets and physical appearance by taking them apart and re-configuring them. Aside from the 16 new characters swapable, Activision will also release 16 brand new characters, as well as 16 “core” characters, returning fan-favorites, in a similar way that they issued “series 2” figures with Skylanders Giants.

The game will be on display at the 2013 New York Toy Fair, Feb 10th, in booth 3061 if any of you reading this are planning to attend.

If you’ve got a little one who wants to know about the plot of Skylander’s SWAP Force click the read more link we’ve got the full press release from activism after the jump.Read More

Activision Registers Four New Skylanders Domains – New Game Imminent?

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Joshua Rust

After posting a $500 million dollar profit in the United States alone, it’s safe to say that Skylanders is/has become an annual franchise. While none of these four domains are actually linked to a website it, it’s apparent that Skylanders is here to stay – no matter what Disney has to say about it!

Here are the four domains that were registered by Activision just a few days ago:

SkylandersKaosAlliance.com

SkylandersNanoForce.com

SkylandersSuperForce.com

SkylandersSwapForce.com

For reference,Skylanders Giants’domain was registered early 2012 and it released October 21st, 2012. So it’s quite probable that we will see the next Skylanders game later this year. Of the four names registered, none of them really strike me as a contender for the unannounced sequels final name. But, I guess that’s why Activison makes the big bucks, lol.

What new features would you all like to see in the next Skylanders game? Maybe with the competition with Disney Infinty, we will see some new innovations to the Skylanders franchise. Truly, the second game was really good but it failed to do anything “new” other than adding the Giants which could move “giant obstacles”.

Black Tusk Is Working On 4 New IP’s For Microsoft’s New Console

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It was revealed earlier today that Black Tusk Studios, formerly Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver, has been silently behind the scenes working on not one, not two, but FOUR NEW IP’s for Microsoft’s next home console (whatever it may be named).

It was previously revealed that the studio would be working on the next “the next Halo” in terms of a flagship franchise, not BTS actually working on a Halo game. There’s currently no mention on what any of the four IP’s are titled or may be about at this time.

Jonathan Brown, Black Tusk’s senior product manager and product planner, has been busy since joining BTS back in November 2010 taking on a role as “the primary product manager on four unannounced new IP and have been a key contributor to bringing these IP from the very early concept phase through green light to production. “

So, while not clearly stated, it appears that these new IP’s will be for the next generation of Microsoft’s console. Let’s just hope that Microsoft doesn’t abandon them so early in the consoles life that we don’t ever see a sequel. See Kameo: Elements Of Destruction – which was well received but never got the sequel it deserved.

EA Sidelines Medal of Honor Franchise

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

I hope you don’t have your hopes up for a third modern Medal of Honor game. During last week’s investor’s call EA Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore announced that the publisher will be moving in a different direction in regards to their annual FPS release. Surely it had something to do with poor sales or an absolutely devastating meta critic score.

While on the call Mr.Moore explained that Medal of Honor will be removed from Electronic Art’s bi-annual rotation, although he did not offer specifics as to what will replace it. Considering that Crytek, developer of the ever impressive Crysis series, just purchased the HomeFront IP after the demise of THQ, EA will partner them to thwart another North Korean invasion.

Did you enjoy Medal of Honor Warfighter? Speak out in the comments section, because as fellow Broken Joysticks Founder Eric will tell you, he quite enjoyed the game.

We’ve got a quote from the call after the jump.

IGN Spun-off From Fox, Sold To Ziff Davis

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Videogames megasite IGN.com has been spun-off from Fox Media and sold to former EGM/1-UP owner Ziff Davis, the company announced today via blog post and twitter. Along with the flagship site, Ziff now owns the likes of UGO, 1-UP and gaming events like the IGN Pro League.

It has long been rumored that IGN was preparing to either be sold off to a new owner, spun-off into their own entity or worse case auctioned off entirely. Reportedly News Corp spent part of 2011 looking for a new buyer for the site before working with investment bank Allen & Co to auction off the company for around $100 million.Read More

Skyrim DLC Dated For PlayStation 3

Posted on February 1, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Have you been waiting to learn when you can enjoy Skyrim’s add-on campaigns Dawnguard, Dragonborn or Hearthfire on the PlayStation 3? Wonder no longer, players on Sony’s platform are finally going to get their chance to swing their swords into brand new content, and it will all be 50% off during the first week of availability.

Dragonborn will be released on Feb 12th, Hearthfire on Feb 19th and Dawnguard on 26th of this month. You can snag the house building expansion Hearthfire for $5, while the other two are priced at $20.

I’d recommended grabbing them during the half off sale as there is quite a lot of content packed into Dragonborn and Dawnguard.
