Jason West/Frank Zampella vs. Activision Avoids Jury Trial

Posted on May 31, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Jason West and Frank Zampella have officially settled their case with Activision for their mistreatment of workers during the development of Modern Warfare 2. This ends the year long struggle both Activision and the Infinity Ward studio heads have endured. Zampella and West, in their final hour, decided to settle their dispute before reaching a jury trial.

If you haven’t been following this fiasco when it started, West and Zampella sued Activision for the a number of bonuses (rumored to reach over $10,000,000 for both West and Zampella), included in that deal were all the staff that worked on Modern Warfare 2. Following their departure from Activision and Infinity Ward, Jason West and Frank Zampella opened their own studio and to work on a new game with Electronic Arts. During the struggle of making Modern Warfare 2, West and Zampella were outed for having met with Electronic Arts prior to releasing the game.

While the results are currently closed to the public, it was noted by The Verge’s Michael WcWhertor, that Jason West was said to be in a happy mood and “smiling in the courtroom”.

Source: Settlement reached in Call of Duty’s billion dollar West v. Activision lawsuit.

THQ Promises To ‘Turn Up The Attitude’ In WWE 13

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Did a 1990s nostalgia movement begin without someone alerting me? THQ is looking to recapture the excitement of the WWE Attitude era from the late 90s – early 00s with the release of WWE ’13 this fall for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

THQ promises that prominent attitude era super stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin will return for WWE ’13. Perhaps we will also see The Rock in this game? He did make a pretty awesome appearance at Wrestlemania this past April.

WWE 13’s single player campaign will be centered completely on the Attitude Era and will focus on eight to be announced super-stars from that time. THQ promises a full roster reveal, multiplayer details and more in the coming months.

CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk RPG Announced

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

CD Projekt RED announced that it is developing a new game based on Mike Pondsmith’s venerable Cyberpunk 2020 RPG (originally known as Cyberpunk 2013 when it was first released in the late 1980s). As is typical of this sort of thing, Cyberpunk is set in a future dystopia where the United States is a borderline police state run by ruthless, nearly omnipotent corporations (the rest of the world isn’t doing too hot either).
Speaking at CD Projekt’s Summer Conference, co-founder Marcin Iwinski promised that the RPG will follow in the Witcher series’ footsteps. It’ll be non-linear, morally ambiguous, and “mature.” Unlike the Witcher series, the upcoming cyberpunk game will allow players to create unique characters with different classes. Presumably this means that you will be able to hack and sleep your way through the game or, alternatively, spend your time tasering protestors on behalf of a company using homeless people in their human-animal hybrid experiments.

So far we don’t know what platforms it will be released on (given CD Projekt’s history, it’s a good bet that it’ll be released for the PC) or when it will see the light of day. We’ll keep you posted.

Crusader Kings 2: Sword of Islam DLC Announced

Posted on May 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Paradox Interactive has just announced the Sword of Islam DLC for Crusader Kings 2. The main selling point of this DLC is that, for the first time in the history of the series, you’ll be able to play an Islamic dynasty. Finally, you can experience building up a powerful dynasty (only to see it crushed by the Mongols) from an Islamic perspective. Paradox hasn’t released many details about how the Muslims will play differently than European Christians, but the latest developer diary promises “lots of specific new mechanics for the Muslims, creating a whole new experience for the player, where laws, marriage, holdings, traits, titles and more work entirely different.”

This DLC will come out alongside the 1.06 patch for the game which adds new features like “ an expansion of the map into Mali-Songhay, differentiation on strong and weak claims, new plot,” and a more in-depth combat system. You can watch a trailer for the Sword of Islam DLC after the jump.Read More
