New Titanfall 2 Update Brings Holiday Themed Decals, New Playlist and New Weapon Skins

After nearly a year and a half of release, I figured that the days of Titanfall 2 updates were over but apparently not. Next week the next update for Respawn Entertainment’s criminally under-played mech shooter, dubbed Operation Endeavor brings a whole pile of smaller content drops just in time for the holidays. 

Six weapons will be receiving new Elite Warpaint skins which will be available for $4.99 USD or $19.99 USD for all six. 

These new skins include: 

  • Heat Sink EM-4 Cold War 
  • Masterwork D-2 Double Take 
  • Phantom Longbow DMR 
  • Purple Fade G2AS 
  • Crimson Fury R-21 Carbine 
  • Sky R-97 

Two new banners will be made available in standard and gradient quality: “Before Grapple” and “Sliegh-er”. 

Also coming just in time for the snow to start falling are a set of tweaked gameplay modes with modified rule sets. It might not be that new map you wanted for the holiday update or an entirely brand new mode but what we do get is Last Titan Standing with huge cooldown and health changes. Also coming to Titanfall is the classic arena FPS mode, Rocket Arena! Old school fans of the Quake series might have a reason to check out TF2’s latest patch. 

Here’s a full breakdown of the new modes: 

  • Turbo LTS – Last Titan Standing gametype with double core generation and dash regen rates. Everyone also has Turbo Engine kit. 
  • Spicy Attrition – Attrition where everyone’s Ordnance ability is replaced with Ticks. 
  • The Otherside – All Phase Attrition. 
  • Rocket Arena – Live Fire with modified EPGs and autopistols. 
  • Turbo Titan Brawl – Titan Brawl with double core generation and dash regen rates. Everyone also has Turbo Engine kit.

I know a lot of the community were not happy with the huge Grapple nerf, meaning no more swinging around like your pilot belongs in Attack on Titan. Respawn has at least reverted a bit of that nerf, in that the Grapple ability can now store two charges. 



Next Titanfall 2 DLC – The Colony – Drops Alongside Free Trial Next Weekend

Titanfall 2 pilots who might have lapsed in their combat training or perspective pilots who have yet to get behind the controls of giant mecha have a reason to suit up with news of the game’s next content drop & free trial hitting consoles & PC next weekend.

Respawn Entertainment will release an updated version of The Colony map from the 2014 original alongside a new execution that will be available to all players. Other additions in this latest content drop include a selection of new premium (as in real world $) Titan skins & nose artwork as well as the new R-101 Carbine rifle which will be available to all players as well.

For Titanfall 2’s second free trial weekend new pilots will have access to the multiplayer suite from March 30th through April 3rd as well as the training course and “Beacon” single player mission. Both the training course and Beacon will stay unlocked for trial participants after April 3rd, although multiplayer will no longer function.

EA Disappointed With Titanfall 2 Sales But Remains Committed To The Series

During Electronic Art’s most recent earnings call executives from the company discussed the company’s view on Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2. It turns out that despite large amounts of critical acclaim, especially for its’ single player campaign, and high user satisfaction scores this FPS sequel failed to live up to EA’s expectations.

Even in the face of disappointing sales numbers, EA has recommitted itself to the support not only the already released 2016 sequel but also the franchise as a whole. Titanfall 2 will continue to see new maps, modes and cosmetic DLC released throughout its life, it is not known if the next Titanfall title will be developed internally at Respawn but their deal with EA does provide Respawn with the ownership rights to the franchise.

No particular reason for the less than expected sales figures was provided but could it have something to do with the fact that Titanfall 2 was released one week after EA’s other massively successful shooter Battlefield 1 and a week prior to the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare? With so many shooters releasing in such a short time I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a couple of folks decided to only pick up one of the three excellent FPS titles released back-to-back-to-back last Fall.

Here is a quote from the investor’s call:

We’re excited about our long-term plans for the Titanfall franchise.”



Titanfall 2 Trial Coming For PC, Xbox One and PS4

Respawn Entertainment’s absolutely excellent first person mecha shooter Titanfall 2 will be getting a limited time multiplayer trial for PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC via the Origin Client. Players who subscribe to the Origin Access (PC) or EA Access (Xbox One) can start the multiplayer trial – which is the full multiplayer suite – on November 30th, with everyone else getting access to the trial on December 1st. This time limited multiplayer trial will run until the end of next weekend, December 4th.

A brand new map, Angel City, will also be available for Titanfall 2 on November 30th for pilots who pre-ordered the game, everyone else will get access to the new map before the end of the trial on December 3rd.The remainder of the December 3rd DLC drop will include the Wingman Elite Pistol, six new Titan kits and a new unlockable pilot execution. All of Titanfall 2’s DLC will be provided for free on all platforms.

It turns out that Respawn Entertainment posted an official blog post describing the multiplayer trial thusly:

“Titanfall 2 will host a free trial of the game’s full multiplayer offering. The trial* will begin for EA Access and Origin Access members on November 30th, and become available for all players starting December 2nd on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Origin for PC. This will feature a full offering including all maps, modes, weapons and more including brand new content from Angel City’s Most Wanted DLC on December 3rd. “

Also as the blog post points out, any progress made by trial users make will carry over to the full version should they choose to buy it:

“Progress from the trial carries over to the full game when you upgrade, so you can keep going right where you left off.”


Latest Titanfall 2 Patch Brings Dynamic Resolution Scaling To PC

Respawn Entertainment has released a major patch for the PC version of their recently released shooter Titanfall 2. This patch brings a feature usually reserved for the console iteration of games – dynamic resolution – which will down-sample and scale the game’s resolution in-order to maintain a 60 frames per second cap while playing depending on the load placed upon the system. In order to take advantage of this feature pilots must have TSAA enabled under their video settings, in their official blog post Respawn noted this should help players who either are using lower spec’d machines or those trying to push the game @ 4K.

Other changes outlined in the patch notes include Aim Down Sight improvements for Archer and Thunderbolt while wall-running, improvements with streaming in-game assets in-engine so that players should experience less stuttering and several resolution related bugs.

Here are the complete notes:

– Stability and GPU performance improvements
– Titan weakspot highlighting respects colorblind settings
– Reduced stuttering and playback issues with voice chat
– Improved speed of allocating Private Match dedicated servers
– Adjusted Recommended settings for lower end GPUs
– Reduced hitching when changing between no antialiasing and TSAA
– Increased performance of streaming textures, reducing stalls and hitches
– Archer and Thunderbolt now go to Aim-Down-Sights when wallhanging (oops!)
– Better Network chatroom moderation tools
– Fixed various grapple gameplay issues
– Fixed Kraber shots going through Bubble Shield
– Fixed certain combinations of weapon mods and menu selection resulting in no weapon model showing in customization menus
– Fixed spawning halfway underground after playing third person animations in Kill Replay
– Fixed tracker lock-on HUD elements not reliably showing up during Kill Replay
– Fixed Titan executions not triggering reliably
– Fixed mantling up stairs
– Fixed incorrect aspect ratio when switching from fullscreen 1920×1080 to windowed 1600×900
– Fixed some rare hardlocks and crashes
– Fixed subtitles being stretched in 21:9 ratios
– Fixed race condition when accepting Origin game invite with application closed
– Fixed some display issues in Networks lobbies
– Fixed disappearing grapple rope with TSAA enabled
– Fixed NVIDIA Surround crash


3 Reasons Why Everyone Should Try TitanFall 2’s Multiplayer Stress Test

TitanFall 2 will be deploying in a limited fashion this weekend with the recently announced PSN exclusive Stress Test. After playing two rounds of the shooter at EA Play this past June I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that there is a lot to be excited for in this long awaited sequel.

Here are just a few of improvements that you should be looking forward too:

  • Enhanced Abilities– The first game really only had cloaking & enhanced movements as its most noticeable enhancements that pilots had at their exposure. While burn cards provided players with ‘amped up’ versions of existing weapons, the sequel’s inclusion of a grappling hook makes the series’ verticality even more important. Not only can you run along wall and use a double jump but at the press of a button your pilot can swing onto roof-tops and ledges, making it even harder for opponents to spot you.
  • Executions Add To The Immersion – Standing behind someone and pressing a button to execute a melee kill, it might as well be an action game cliché at this point but for some reason I found that it enriched the Titanfall 2 experience. Perhaps it is Respawn Entertainment’s Call of Duty roots but having an option that shifts the perspective away from first person, even for a few seconds, helps TitanFall 2 set itself apart from its contemporaries.
  • No Bull%$% DLC Policy – If you’re worried that TitanFall 2’s on-disc / day one multiplayer offerings will soon become splintered due to expensive add-ons, fear not. At E3 Respawn affirmed that ALL DLC for TitanFall 2 will be provided to users free of charge. There will be no splitting of the community due to multiple map packs or $20 add-on packs after launch. Maps & Modes will be provided to all players for free, what hasn’t been mentioned is whether not Titanfall 2 will include optional cosmetics.


Just a small taste of TitanFall 2 will be on offer during the first weekend of the technical test. Here is how the PlayStation Blog described the content that we will get to enjoy this weekend:


Bounty Hunt (5v5): A brand new mode in Titanfall 2 that pits you and your teammates against an opposing team of Pilots as well as the Remnant Fleet. Earn bonuses by killing grunts and enemies, but make sure to deposit all your points at the bank between waves without getting killed! Once a bounty Titan shows up you’ll want to focus all fire and take it down as a team for a massive payout!

Pilots vs. Pilots (8v8): Think you have what it takes to be the best Pilot on the Frontier? Put your combat and mobility skills to the ultimate test in this classic eight-on-eight Pilots-only mode.



Boomtown: A secret underground IMC facility where the latest in R&D is put to the test. In this facility Pilots can use the many peaked roofs as cover against combatants below, as well as numerous interiors to maneuver through for a variety of firing positions without being spotted. With tight lanes through the middle, Titans can easily be ambushed unless they head off the main pathways and into the surrounding fields.

Homestead: The IMC have claimed Imminent Domain on a small commune’s plot of land when valuable natural resources are found. A series of raised, rocky plateaus with a river running down the middle, Pilots are mostly safe from Titans among the rocks and trees but they also can duck into the caves and buildings when needed. Titans control the large rolling fields, so be extra cautious when traveling between the plateaus.”

A second technical test with an additional map “Base Kodai” and an additional mode “Amped Hardpoint (6 Vs 6) will be included during the August 26th through 28th test. E3 Hands-On: Titanfall 2 Multiplayer

At EA’s new publicly accessible EA Play Event two teams of paramilitary soldiers battle it out for supremacy in multiplayer matches of Titanfall 2. I got the chance alongside our own Fionna Fox to try out one ten minute match during our visit to EA Play this afternoon. Find out why Titanfall 2 looks to take everything good from the first game and some great new mechanics that change how the flow of battle unfurls.

I played one of the two available classes in the EA Access demo version of the game – this class came complete with an automatic sub machine gun and a grappling hook as my class’s special ability. It seems that each class in Titanfall 2 comes with a special ability mapped to the L1 button that is unique to them. Using my grappling hook allowed me to quickly scale up to the rooftop to take out enemy players or NPC grunts / specters with ease. My grappling hook wasn’t just good to get a good vantage point but was also useful as an enemy titan descended from the skies.

Speaking of the giant robots, of course the titans were going to return – their right in the name of the game. While the single-player focuses on the link between the titans and their pilot, the multiplayer’s version of these walking death machines function very similar to their Titanfall 1 counter-parts. The titan I chose for the single match that I played came equipped with a slower firing main weapon that did moderate amounts of damage, my titan also had a shoulder mounted laser that could be charged in a few seconds. The shoulder mounted laser was especially effective against enemy titans, there was at one point during a particularly close encounter that my laser saved my life – unleashing a blast at my enemy that destroyed their titan within seconds of them taking me out.

Titanfall 2 looks to include everything from the original game – Grunts, Mercs & other NPCs, awesome giant robots, fast paced movement – and new elements like the grappling hook and titan super abilities to spice things up. Firefights were fast paced and I could hear my chest pounding as the match ended.

Now your hearing from Fionna Fox, who also went to the live play event! EA play first of all was pretty amazing I really enjoyed the whole exclusive feel of the event, even if the lines were really short and the place felt a bit empty on the last day at like 2pm.

Titan Fall 2 itself really gave me the same feel as the first, but bit more refined. I really feel like the gameplay was a bit more refined feel than Titan Fall 2, since so many games now use a similar movement system for their game, I really felt at home with wall running, jumping, and grappling. This year it seems will be the year of the grappling hook, as both Titan Fall 2 and Modern Warfare have demonstrated grappling hook style movement. Movement still feels fast and fluid, with a lot of emphasis on verticality. You can easily get on top of what ever building you need to get to snipe, or shoot down.

I started off with a class with some kind of rifle that didn’t have ammo (extremely odd and didn’t feel very good) I quickly changed out for the other available class which was a sniper rifle that was not scoped.  This rifle was pretty dam cool, but hoenstly im not sniper and so I felt a bit like I was out of my element.

The game mode we were allowed to try is a new one where points appear on a map and you must go to that point and kill NPC’s on the point. Not just NPC grunts like the first Titan Fall game though. Grunts now get titans, stupid titans, but titans non-the-less. These NPC titans show up at those points and you have to kill them. Killing or dooming an enemy titan will get you a bunch of the points you get for killing NPC’s on the map. This game mode felt slower than Titan Fall one, something I honestly think isnt bad at all.

Overall I am interested in at least giving the game a whirl when it comes out in October. I think its going to tough market in October for shooters, with both Cod, and Battlefield on their way so shortly after, I hope they dont swallow up Titan Fall 2, which I feel like could be solid entry in to the franchise.

Titanfall 2 Ready For Launch On October 28th

It is official – Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts will unleash an assault upon both online & offline players in the form of Titanfall 2 on October 28th. Unlike the first title, which was released exclusively for Windows PC & Xbox One, Titanfall 2 will include both a single-player campaign and multiplayer component.

In the narrative driven portion players enter the shoes of Jack Cooper, a member of a paramilitary militia that links with a one of the titular Titans after its’ pilot is killed. It appears that this link between robot & pilot will be front & center in the single player portion of the game. In Titanfall 1 the link between the two wasn’t really emphasized save for the ability to have your titan defend you through an automated A.I if you ejected during combat.

On the multiplayer front things appeared to have evolved quite a bit since the last time pilot’s strapped on their uniforms. The parkour movement system that helped set the original apart from the pack of other sci-fi shooters has been upgraded with the ability to use a grappling hook and then slide into a safe space. EA will also launch a network test for the game’s multiplayer ahead of release but no solid information on that has been confirmed at this time.

Titanfall 2 Is Coming This Fall According To EA Investor Call

Respawn’s Titanfall sequel that they have been teasing for weeks now has a solid release window according to the recent EA investor’s call.  Listed in the publically available PowerPoint presentation shown during the call were 8 already announced titles, with Titanfall 2 sharing the same release window as the recently announced Battlefield 1, meaning that we will see Respawn’s next game sometime this Fall.


The 8 games featured on this particular slide included:

  • Mirrors Edge Catalyst (Q1 FY 2017)
  • FIFA 17 / Madden 17 / NHL 17 (Q2 FY 2017)
  • Battlefield 1 (Q3 2017)
  • Titanfall 2(Q3 FY 2017)
  • NBA LIVE (Q4 FY 2017)
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda (Q4 FY 2017)

Respawn released a teaser trailer for Titanfall 2 last week and more information is expected to be released before E3 2016 during EA’s “EA Play” event. The original Titanfall was released exclusively on Xbox One and Windows PC. Its’ sequel will be coming to those platforms in addition to the PlayStation 4.

Titanfall 2 Teaser Trailer Drops

Respawn entertainment has literally dropped the first teaser trailer for Titanfall 2. Clocking in at just 45 seconds it is rather short – giving the viewer a rundown about why it is so dangerous to be a mech pilot in the Titanfall universe. No official date for the game has been announced but it is expected to released sometime before March 2017. We will have more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.

Titanfall 2 Campaign & Television Spin-off Details Drop From Orbit

Fans of giant mechs, parkour-infused combat and future warfare rejoice because details about the single-player campaign, setting and spin-off television series for Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 have final landed.

The lead writer of the sequel, Jesse Stern spoke to financial focused major news outlet Forbes and the juiciest tidbits finally found their way onto the popular gaming forum Neogaf.

In bullet form here are some of the things that Jesse revealed about the world of Titanfall 2 and how it will change when compared to the 2014 original:

  • The world of Titanfall 2 will include the use of magic – an element that was absent entirely from the original game. Stern promises that the use of magic will still be grounded in a world that was primarily centered on humanities’ early attempts at space colonization with no pristine Star Trek-esque future tech to be found.
  • A dedicated single-player campaign has been confirmed for Titanfall 2. The original game was an online only multiplayer-focused affair that offered narrative details in the form of pre / post-match dialogue sequences.
  • A tie-in television series is currently in development at Lion’s Gate TV which will be episodic in nature.
  • The developers are currently targeting a multiplatform release for Titanfall 2. This presumably means that the game will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
  • America’s founding Revolutionary War and the American Civil War are cited as influences for the game’s setting and narrative. Respawn wants to explore the consequences of the first groups of humanity’s refugees colonizing the far reaches of space.
  • Respawn is only a year into development and publisher Electronic Arts expects to ship the title before March 31st 2017
