The Monster Hunter Generations hunt begins July 15th

Posted on May 12, 2016 by Jason Nason

Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Generations will launch in North America on July 15th for the Nintendo 3DS. A NEW Nintendo 3DS XL Monster Hunter Generations Edition also launches on the same day.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL Monster Hunter Generations Edition comes in a beautiful blue hue and features artwork of the game’s Fated Four, an elite group of powerful new monsters. Players can get straight into the action with enhanced graphics, fluid camera control options with the C-stick functionality, and mappable ZL and ZR buttons for Hunter Arts offered on New Nintendo 3DS systems.

The new hardware isn’t a bundle however, so the game doesn’t come pre-installed in the hardware. The game will need to be purchased separately from the new hardware.

Mini Mario & Friends amiibo Challenge | Review

Posted on May 12, 2016 by Jason Nason

While Mini Mario & Friends amiibo Challenge is not the answer to the killer ap question for giving amiibos a solid use, it is a great start and a positive sign for what Nintendo can and should do with the figures. Much like Skylanders, you’ll need at least one amiibo to play the game, but you can unlock a whole lot more the more figures you have.

Mini Mario & Friends amiibo Challenge is a great game and finally does what I’ve been crying for Nintendo to do. Sure it’s neat to tap an amiibo in a game to unlock a new costume for my mii, or add a unique item to the game, but for the most part amiibo have been nothing more than an novelty. Sure I have a ton of them. Any Nintendo fan who is in this for the love of it already has a growing collection of the figures. But for the most part amiibo have just been NFC enabled toys with potential.

Mini Mario & Friends amiibo Challenge has unlocked that potential.

9 Ways To Revitalize The Skylanders Franchise

Posted on May 12, 2016 by Les Major

Skylanders-Weeruptor

It’s scary news seeing a Toys to Life series like Disney Infinity come to an end. Especially after Skylanders fans have heard that Supercharger sales aren’t up to expectation. The franchise has a lot of life left in it and I only hope we will see the changes needed to keep it going. Following is my advice for what I’d like to see.

Skylanders is a series I’ve enjoyed for a long time now. In the beginning it was easy to even laugh at. We had characters with names like Eruptor and Whamshell that at the time sounded silly. As time went on though and you got into playing the games, you came to treasure these members of your team. Now, so many years later we’re about to move on into the sixth Skylanders game. Obviously the concept took off.

Even other companies began to produce their own toys to life games. Disney Infinity, amiibo, and LEGO Dimensions joined the ranks of NFC figure titles. The concept was popular and very lucrative. But how can that keep going?

Civilization VI Coming To PC This October

Posted on May 12, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It has been quite a few years since we got a properly numbered Civilization title – sure side adventures like Civilization: Beyond Earth and its’ expansion were fun but they really did feel like an incremental step forward from Civilization V, rather than a completely new experience.  Firaxis Games and publisher 2K have announced that the next mainline entry in the 25 year old franchise, Civilization VI will be released on Windows PC in late October.

Civilization VI looks to build on the successful franchise formula by introducing changes to some of the key components that comprise Civ’s signature gameplay. Cities will now be able to expand across the map, meaning that cities will now be able to take up multiple tiles as they grow. Diplomacy and placating other factions within the game world has always been one of the keys to a successful campaign and now your relationship with A.I rulers will change over the course of the game – your first interaction with another faction could shape how your relationship forms right until the end of the game. Multiplayer enhancements in Civ VI will include a new set of tutorials designed to allow multiple players to take on pre-designed mini-campaigns that can be completed in a single session.

Speaking about the visual presentation and overall experience of Civilization VI Lead Designer, ED Beach said:

“The visual presentation of the game is inspired by the maps and tools of the Age of Exploration, and we’ve made several key gameplay changes such as expansive cities and active research that makes Sid Meier’s Civilization VI an entirely unique experience while remaining true to what makes the Civilization series so special.”

Civilization V is one of my favorite local games to play with friends, as surprising as that may be to hear. That game’s “hot seat mode” – which allows each player to take a complete turn and then “pass off” to the other player – captured the strategic thrill of a complex board game, like RISK, for me – without all of the messy pieces and the need to remember the position of units when it came time to shutdown the game for the night. I spent many long nights two summers ago playing a single game of CIV V with a former roommate, if you ever wanted a game that could potentially destroy a friendship over hundreds of turns, Civilization  is one of those games!

2K Games and Firaxis will have more on Civilization VI at this year’s E3!
