Sony’s Sales Strong Throughout Black Friday

Posted on November 29, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

After much counting and calculating, Sony revealed its Black Friday weekend sales figures, where the PlayStation 3 and Vita bundles made a solid consumer impact.

Thanks in part to the PlayStation 3 Ultimate Value Bundles, 525,000 PS3s were sold throughout which was an increase in bundled sales by 15% over last year.. Meanwhile, PS3 systems, games and accessories sales improved as well by 9%.The PlayStation Vita bundles (ACIII: Liberation, COD:BO:Declassified, Lego Batman 2) gave the ailing system a much-needed boost, contributing to 160,000 Vitas sold.

In another Sony sales surprise, the PlayStation Plus subscriptions have exploded, resulting in an increase of a whopping 259% of the PSN service over last year’s Black Friday. Thanks in part to the myriad of discounted and free products that PlayStation Plus users can take advantage of, the service has received an overall customer satisfaction rating of 95%.

PlayStation Plus For Vita Out This November

Posted on September 19, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony announced this morning that PlayStation Plus will be launching on the PS Vita this November. At E3 Jack Trenton announced that the service would be coming to the handheld but very little in the way of details were offered. We now have a better picture of what the portable iteration of Sony’s premium membership will offer.

The most anticipated features, free games will of course be available on Vita. Sony promises more details in the future regarding which titles will be offered on Vita. Outside of the free goodies PSN+ members will be able to enjoy discount on downloadable vita games, DLC as well as regular sales. The automatic update feature, which downloads free DLC and patches to the console while on standby, will also be available this November.

What do you think about the inclusion of PSN+ on the Vita? For me, it means more reason to bust out one of my favorite handhelds. The free games do have me a little worried, the Vita doesn’t have the strongest line-up at this point so I don’t see Sony offering any premium games. Perhaps they’ll offer downloadable games like Escape Plan or the recently reduced (can be found for less than $20) Wipeout 2048 or MLB.

Resistance Burning Skies | Review

Posted on June 11, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

When the Resistance franchise launched alongside the PlayStation 3 gamers were excited for the brand IP. Now the fifth game in the franchise comes to the recently launched PlayStation Vita. Can Nihilistic Software’s story of a firefighter thrust into an unfortunate situation show us what the Vita can do? We’ve spent a considerable amount of time with the game and unfortunately there are some causalities to report.Read More

Soul Sacrifice E3 Trailer

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony has released the first trailer for upcoming action role playing game Soul Sacrifice. This Vita title is hardly your average high fantasy fare, sure it features heroes adorned in leather armor sporting broad swords but it’s magic system is what sets it apart. Instead of the usual magic points represented by a meter on screen that were used too, Soul Sacrifice requires the player make a sacrifice in order to use their magical abilities. These sacrifices can range from a limb to a human life.

The game has Artie been confirmed for North American release but no time frame has been given. The fact is being produced by Keiji Inafune of Mega Man fame is more than enough reason to get us excited. Check out the trailer for yourself and will have more as soon as it’s available! i

SEGA Europe and SEGA of America announced in a joint press release that SEGA’s Dreamcast classic Jet Set Radio will be returning on the PlayStation vita some time later this year. JSR Will also be released on the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network as well.

This isn’t a straight port of Jet Set Radio either. All versions will render the vibrant version of Tokyo gamers have come to love in high definition. SEGA also confirmed that the original soundtrack from the Dreamcast version will be returning in this version. Om the PS Vita SEGA has implemented camera integration as well as other features.

Are you excited to see the return of JSR? I sure am, as the original was one of the last games I played on my dreamcast. We’ll see more of the game at E3 in just over a weeks time.

WipeOut 2048 Vita | Review

Posted on May 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The launch of a brand new PlayStation platform and the WipeOut franchise almost go hand in hand. When the original PlayStation Portable launched in 2005 with the phenomenal WipeOut Pure followed by 2009s WipeOut Pulse. Even the PlayStation 3 got in on the action with 2008’s WipeOut HD. Does WipeOut’s formula of futuristic racing machines, hard hitting weapons and breakneck speed equal fun on Sony’s latest handheld?

WipeOut 2048 like its predecessors brings the entire package to Sony’s new handheld. Just because the game is being placed on a Vita Game Card doesn’t mean that SCE LiverPool had to compromise any of its artistic vision. Those of you looking for a faced paced racer are in for a treat with 2048, as the game offers several different game modes including offensive/defensive only events, time trials, four different classes of ships (D through A) and four distinct seaons (one per class).Read More

Mortal Kombat Vita | Review

Posted on May 16, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last year’s Mortal Kombat brought the series back from the brink of obscurity and almost self parody. In my opinion Nether Realm Studios not only gave the franchise a much needed shot in the arm by undoing several games worth of changes but made the whole thing more accessible to a whole new generation of fighting fans. Now a full year later can Nether Realm repeat their success with the first fully fledged Mortal Kombat title on a handheld?Read More
