Hands on with Zen Pinball 2: Balls of Glory | Review

Posted on October 20, 2015 by Erika

First off, I want to say that I’m a huge pinball fan since I got an Atari 2600 with Virtual Pinball back in 1995. I’d spend hours playing on it trying for a high score, so when I’m able to go to an arcade, I always hit up the pinball sections to see how high of a score I can get. So imagine my surprise when I was given an opportunity to try a themed pinball set for Zen Pinball 2.

After downloading the Fox Digital Entertainment Balls of Glory corroboration pack for Zen Pinball 2(ZP2), it came with four following boards to try out: Archer, Family Guy, American Dad, and Bob’s Burgers. At first glance, I noticed the most recently announced Archer board, and as being a big Archer fan, I immediately started it up to play. After starting it up, Archer’s theme played to my delight.

Archer Pinball

What Archer fan wouldn’t love to be able to play this?

With standard pinball fare, the player is able to rack up points by hitting bumpers, and by trying to complete minigames by hitting certain bumpers and objects a certain number of times, or though certain timed events. As an example for the latter, Archer’s cell phone rings and if you can light up the two small bumpers that are to the right of it, Archer will send it to one of his voicemail soundboards. It can be quite entertaining to listen to the small touches like this that the developers have put into the boards. One of the more unique minigames though is where it’s a first-person persepctive of Archer and you’re trying to shoot terrorists with a very limited ammo supply, all the while not trying to shoot friendly targets.

New Sword Art Online: Lost Song Story Trailer

Posted on October 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bandai Namco US has released a new story trailer for their upcoming action RPG Sword Art Online: Lost Song. This new trailer, which was also screened at the New York Comic Con, focuses around the “mysterious guild” which players will encounter over the course of the game’s story.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song takes place in the world of 2012’s Sword Art Online, itself an Anime based upon a popular Japanese light novel. In the world of SAO players are transported to virtual worlds and MMORPGs through devices such as the NeuroLink which allow for complete immersion, with the player’s brains unable to tell the difference between the game world and the real world.

Lost Song is set during the game’s second arc in ALfheim Online but differentiates from the original anime series in that Lost Song tells its own version of events.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song was originally released in Japan on March 16th on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3. It is set for a November 17th release in North America and can be pre-ordered from the PlayStation Store.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Vs. SEGA Hardware Girls Detailed

Posted on October 3, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The world of Hyperdimension Neptunia is already a pretty bizarre place – consoles have been personified as videogame heroines, the world uses ‘credits’ as their currency and enemies resemble the ghosts from Pac-Man – but things are about to get even more rad with the inclusion of the ‘SEGA Hardware Girls’.

In the upcoming game Hyperdimension Neptunia Vs. SEGA Hardware Girls Nep-Nep & CO. will take on personifications of classic SEGA hardware from the past thirty years. If you ever wanted to know what an officially sanctioned Dreamcast-tan looked like, you no longer have to wonder. The folks over at Idea Factory Japan and Compile Heart have revealed a bunch of new details for the upcoming action RPG.

Here’s a brief rundown:

  • Attack order returns from the previous games
  • A new “Fever Gem” gauge has been added. When you attack the percentage on this meter increases and will eventually provide you with a Rainbow Gem.
  • While in “Fever Mode” all of your party members gain 10% to their stats, enemies are unable to take their turns – meaning you can beat the hell out of the, you can also perform your EXE special attacks.

Also included with the combat system details were a number of new screenshots. It should be obvious who the Dreamcast is – she’s literally wearing a Dreamcast controller as a tiara! I also want Game Gear’s multi-colored hair aesthetic.. Like GOD DAMN!

Hypedimension Neptunia X SEGA Hardware Girls will be released in Japan on November 26th for the PlayStation Vita. No word on an international release.

CHARTED: Week Ending January 4, 2014

Posted on January 18, 2014 by Jason Nason

Previously I’ve been looking just at Nintendo’s titles in the top thirty to see where they stack, but this time I’m going to instead take a look at just the top ten games for both the USA and Japan.

It’s amazing to see the differences in the top tens between the two territories. There is only one game from Nintendo systems in the top ten in the United States for the week ending January 5th, 2014, with the title being Pokémon X/Y for the 3DS. The highest ranked Wii U game is actually Super Mario 3D World, which landed on the chart at 16. Interestingly enough Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2014 for the Wii landed at number 6.

Taking a look at the Japan top ten we see a different story, with games from Nintendo systems taking up eight of the top ten spots. Only Square Enix’s recently released Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster on PS3 and PS Vita could crack into the top ten.

Take a look at the full top ten rankings for the USA and Japan.
