Trials of Cold Steel II Coming To Europe This Fall For PS3 / PS Vita

Posted on June 23, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Legend of Heroes: Trials of Cold Steel II will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Europe thanks to Nippon Inchi Software. This sequel to the 2013 original (JPN release) sees the fate of Erebonia hang in the balance as the narrative picks up just one month after the conclusion of the first game. NIS confirmed that Trials of Cold Steel II will be available in both physical and digital versions upon release for all platforms.

A narrative link between the previous game and Trials II isn’t the only part of this new game that looks to improve upon the past. Colorful and playful dialogue was at the heart of the first game and Trials of Steel II promises even more great exchanges between the cast of characters. The Combat Link System allows allies to combine various combat benefits such as healing, guards from enemy attacks and statistic boosts. New to the Legend of Heroes’s combat is the Overdrive System which allows linked characters to perform up to three consecutive attacks, giving players a new strategic option in battle.

Publishing for Trials of Cold Steel II will be handled in Europe by NIS, it will be published by XSEED in North America. The Legend of Heroes: Trials of Steel II was originally released in Japan in September of 2014. If you’re primarily a PC gamer and feel a little left out that the majority of the Legend of Heroes games have yet to see a Windows release , 2006’s Trials In The Sky is currently 50% off on Steam for a very reasonable $10.99 CDN/

Check out a trailer for the English adaptation of the first Trials of Cold Steel below:

XSeed to distribute Shante: Half-Genie Hero; will be shown at E3

Posted on June 9, 2016 by Jason Nason

While not officially announced by WayForward that I’ve seen, XSeed announced today that Shante: Half-Genie Hero will be among the upcoming games being released by XSeed Games to be shown off at E3 next week.

With vibrant, high-definition graphics bringing new detail to the series’ charming hand-drawn sprites, the newest entry is set to be released in the near future. According to XSeed’s release, they will be handling the physical release for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and the Wii U.

In the game Shantae is roused from a deep sleep, suddenly alert. She plunges into the moonlit forest in search of answers. In nearby Scuttle Town she discovers a mysterious trapdoor, and beyond that, a luminous subterranean cavern. A familiar voice calls out, drawing Shantae to a beautiful fountain. Touching its waters she is immediately spirited away to the fabled Genie Realm. At her feet a magical seal swells as some powerful evil seeks escape. The chamber trembles with a deep, bellowing roar and everything goes white. Shantae sits upright, back in her bed. Was it just a dream? Or a vision of things to come?

Idea Factory International Announces Release Date For Trillion: God of Destruction

Posted on February 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Do you have what it takes to best a boss with one trillion hit points? That’s the question that Idea Factory International’s upcoming PS Vita exclusive strategy RPG Trillion: God of Destruction. IFI has announced that the game will be available both physical and digitally on March 29th in North America and April 1st in Europe.

In the world of Trillion: God of Destruction peace in the world of demons, the Underworld, lasted over a thousand years until the demon god of destruction, Trillion, appeared with intentions to consume the entire world.  Players will have six overlord candidates at their disposal to take down Trillion and possibly through forming strong bonds this goal can be achieved.

Alongside the announcement of the release date for Trillion: God of Destruction IFI also released several screenshots an official description of one of the characters in the game Levia:

Levia holds the Crest of Envy and is Zeabolos’ childhood friend. Fiercely loyal to Zeabolos (almost to the point of obsession), she chooses to fight for him to take vengeance against Trillion for harming her friend. When she’s around others, she respectfully refers to Zeabolos as “Great Overlord,” but when they’re alone she’s a lot more forward. However, she definitely lives up to the Crest of Envy when she sees Zeabolos talking with anyone else

Check out the brand new screenshots after the jump. We’ll have more about Trillion: God of Destruction closer to its release date.

GDC 2016 Survey: VR Support Up, PS Vita Support Nowhere To Be Found

Posted on January 20, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The upcoming Game Developer’s Conference will be held in San Francisco this coming March and ahead of the conference GDC has released their annual “State of the Industry” survey results. State of the Industry captures the pulse of the development community thanks to over 2,000 participants, the results give developers, students and the media (heh.. that’s us) a sense of what is trending in development circles.

Here are some of the interesting findings from the 2016 survey:

VR’s Popularity Among Developers Is On The Rise

Oculus-Rift-5

Development kits for the popular Oculus Rift have been available for sometime, Samsung has entered the fray with the Samsung Gear line-up of headsets and the consumer version of the Oculus will go on sale for $600 later this year. With all of that providing unprecedented levels of hype for Virtual Reality it is no surprise that 16% of respondents said that they were developing games with VR in mind.Read More

Voting For PlayStation Blog’s Game of the Year Opens

Posted on December 19, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Official PlayStation Blog has opened up voting in their annual user lead series of polls for The Game of the Year Awards. As 2015 comes to a close perhaps it is time to reflect upon which games have left the biggest impact on you over the past 12 months before clicking on over to vote.

The year in PlayStation started off with a bang with the release of exclusives like The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne while continuing to amaze right up until December with massive open world games like Just Cause 3.

SCEA’s Social Media Manager Justin Massongill outlines some of the rules that Sony used in the selection of their eligible titles. Readers even suggested new additions in the comments section of the original poll, like Life Is Strange, and they’ve found their way into the official polls.

Here are the ground rules:

  • Nominees are limited to games that have never appeared on a PlayStation platform before.
  • Additionally, if a game has won for a specific category in a previous year, it’s no longer eligible to win in that category this year.
  • We tried to include a (very) wide range of nominees for each category, but if your favorite isn’t on the list feel free to write it inat the bottom of each form.

Voting is performed via a series of rather long polls available on the PlayStation Blog. Each category contains a number of titles – for example in the running for “Best PS4 Game” are Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Axiom Verge, Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Broken Age, Black Ops III, Dying Light, MLB the Show 15 & more. So take your time and pick your favorites carefully.

Did your favorite game make Sony’s cut? 2015 was certainly a fantastic year for gaming!

Mighty Number 9

Comcept the developer behind the Kickstarted Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty Number 9 has released a whole set of brand new screenshots for your viewing pleasure. We’ve got an entire gallery containing all of the high-rez colorful screnshots at the bottom of this post.

Mighty Number 9 was originally revealed back in September 2013 and reached its funding goal only after 2 days. With gameplay that is reminiscent of Keiji Inafune’s former Capcom creation, long time platform veterans and those familiar with his other works should have no problem jumping right into protagonist Beck’s shoes.  This past August the project was delayed from a September 2015 release into February of next year for most versions of Mighty Number 9. It will be released on Windows PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, OSX, Linux. Wii U and at a later date PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax | Review

Posted on October 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PlayStation Vita

Anime and fighting games are two things that have come hand-in-hand at least early as the success of Street Fighter II back in the early 90s. Whether discussing games that utilize anime tropes and art-styles like Melty Blood or games that feature anime characters from a number of high profile series – like Dengek Bunko: Ultimate Fighting Climax, the synergy between the two is obvious.  SEGA USA brings us a brand new fighting game for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita that features a number of characters from some of the best anime from the past 10 years, but does it hold up?Read More
