Rumor: Nintendo Wii U Launch Date Leaked? [UPDATED]

Posted on August 27, 2012 by Jason Bassett

UPDATE:
Kotaku has an update to a story they posted about the Nintendo Wii U release. PDP Community Manager: Candice Hinton wrote:

“At this time we can’t confirm Nintendo’s dates and we don’t know exactly what was heard, but we simply do not know that this point. We are launching accessories, but the date for the accessories doesn’t mean a confirmation on the hardware. If you seek confirmation on the date that is something that is going to need to go specifically though Nintendo, but we can’t confirm or deny dates on any of their hardware.”

Original Story:
The news on the newest Nintendo device has all of us scratching at the bit for any new information that Nintendo will at throw us. Well, now, we may have found out one of the biggest pieces of the Nintendo Wii U puzzle: It’s release date.

Today, during the Gamestop Manager’s meeting, a video game peripheral manufacturer gave us the goods on upcoming hardware for the Wii U. It also, may have inadvertently showed the release date for the console? So, what did it say on the trusty slide? November 18th, 2012. This date fits perfectly for Nintendo.Read More

New Mythical Pokémon Keldeo Coming To EB Games

Posted on August 25, 2012 by Les Major

Nintendo is adding a new Pokémon to the Black and White series. Named Keldeo, this is a Water-type Pokémon that cannot be caught in the game. Rather players will be able to bring their DS or 3DS systems and a copy of Pokémon Black or Pokmon White to their local EB Games and collect it there. Keldeo is noted to excel at super effective moves against seven different Pokémon types: Normal, Fire, Ice, Ground, Rock, Dark, and Steel. However, Keldeo becomes even better when transferred to either Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2.

Not only will trainers be able to transform Keldeo into a new form when transferred to the new game, but they will also be able to play out a scenario based on this event. When transferred, Keldeo learns ‘Secret Sword’ and transforms into Resolute Form, a new look that features a more porminent horn on it’s head. Because Keldeo can learn this fighting-type move at the very first stages of the sequel, it makes it a powerful ally to add to your team.

Madden NFL 13 | Review

Posted on August 24, 2012 by Seung Lee

Just as the sun always comes up in the morning, there’s a new Madden game out every year. Back when Madden NFL 12 was released, I heard some people mutter the words, “another year, another Madden.” Admittedly, I haven’t played a Madden game in a while (in fact, the last game I played was 2005!), but this year’s edition definitely feels like it tries to break the mold that’s built up on the franchise over the years.

This Is What The Wii U’s Game Covers Might Look Like

Posted on August 7, 2012 by Seung Lee

wiiu

Amazon actually has what might be the covers for Wii U games. Assassin’s Creed III and Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth‘s covers both have yellow curves, with a blue border above and the Wii U logo. These may very well be placeholders, so don’t completely freak out just yet.

We’ll keep you updated as more info comes in about the Wii U. Until then, you can check out Amazon’s boxshot of Assassin’s Creed III for yourself here.

Japan Gets Donkey Kong By Downloading NSMB2

Posted on July 23, 2012 by Seung Lee

New Super Mario Bros. 2

North American Club Nintendo members who plan on downloading New Super Mario Bros. 2 can look forward to receiving double the amount of coins to use on the site than those who don’t download the game. The download bonus for the people over in Japan, however, will be a free copy of Donkey Kong: Original Edition. Yes, the 1981 arcade classic will be an incentive for the Japanese to start buying more games digitally. Nintendo plans on making games available with purchasable physical and digital copies, and a promotion like this one will help spread the word.

Donkey Kong: Original Edition is special because it includes an extra stage that the 1983 Famicom version of the game was originally intended to have. This edition of the game has never been sold, and it was only included in the Mario 25th Anniversary red Wii bundle back in 2010 for the European market. Sadly, there’s no information on when, or if, Donkey Kong: Original Edition will ever make it here to the states. Read More

Nintendo Download UK Edition – 09.7.12

Posted on July 9, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

It’s Monday and that can only mean one thing for our friend across the Atlantic, time for new releases on the Nintendo E-Shop and 3DS shop. Headlining this week’s release are Sparkle Snapshots from Nintendo, a 3DS application that lets you customize your photos and share them wirelessly.  For 200 DSi points you could also snag “99Seconds” – an 8 bit game that involves the manipulation of time.

If you’re not looking for full games on the go why not snag the Hyper Arcade edition of Konai’s Frogger for Wii or the first downloadable songs for Square Enix’s  THEATRHYTHM.

Check out the full descriptions and price listings after the jump.Read More

Say Hello To The Nintendo 3DS LL

Posted on June 21, 2012 by Kirk Williford

In one of the more surprising post-E3 twists, Nintendo announced today via their “Nintendo Direct” conference that a version of the Nintendo 3DS with a 90%-larger screen will be released next month in Japan.

Dubbed the Nintendo 3DS LL, the system, the top screen measures in 4.88 inches — A full 90 percent larger than it’s regular 3DS counterpart. The bottom screen is 4.18 inches, also 90% larger. The battery life is measured between 3.5 and 6.5 hours for 3DS games, compared to the regular 3DS’s 3 to 5 hours. Normal DS game battery life is between 6 to 10 hours.

Nintendo announced that in an attempt to cut production costs, they will sell the AC adapter separately; however, the regular 3DS AC adapter will work fine.

The 3DS LL arrives in Japan on July 28th and will come in three colors — White, Red X Black, and Silver X Black. It’ll retail for 18,900 yen — which is only about $40 more than a regular 3DS.

In America, the 3DS LL arrives on August 19th and will retail for $199.99. At only a $30 increase from the normal 3DS, is there really an excuse to not pick up this version of the hardware?

Nintendo Hands Over The Smash Bros Series To Namco Bandai

Posted on June 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Are you still wondering why the previously announced 3DS/Wii-U Smash Bros game did not make an appearance at this year’s E3? Well it turns out that is because Nintendo isn’t developing the game. That is not to say that long time series director Sakurai won’t have any input but the development details have been handed over to Namco Bandai.

More specifically the Ridge Racer team will be working on the title. Honestly, I am not sure how to take this news. Namco produces some of my favorite games, namely the Tales Of series, however the quality of the more recent Ridge Racer games have been lacking.

Perhaps they will launch the next Smash game with 5 characters and the rest will come to the Nintendo E-Shop in downloadable packs? Just like the PS Vita version of Ridge Racer…

NintendoLand Announced At E3

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Kirk Williford

Nintendo announced during their E3 Press Briefing a new title for Wii U, called NintendoLand.

Developed to be the “game that makes you understand the Wii U,” Nintendoland is a party game that features your Mii exploring a Nintendo theme park, loaded with attractions and games to play that tie to various Nintendo franchises.

Nintendo aims for the game to be fun for both multiplayer and single player gamers, and will tie in closely with Miiverse, Nintendo’s online community infrastructure.

Promising Asymmetric gameplay, Nintendo did an on-stage demo of Luigi’s Ghost Mansion, one of the multiplayer attractions found in the game. This minigame features 4 players on Wii Remotes in a maze trying to find and successfully drain the health of a ghost, being controlled by a single player on a Wii U gamepad.

The game looks like a compilation of various Wii U tech demos we saw introduced at last year’s E3 Briefing.

The previously announced Lego City for Wii U now has a subtitle: Undercover.

Using the Wii U gamepad, players will be able to access special elements of the game, like communicating with mission leaders and finding criminals.

You’ll also be able to assume various roles via disguises.

The game has the known humor element that all Lego games have, and appears to be an open-world, HD title.

In addition to the Wii U version, a 3DS version was confirmed.
