The Witches Festival Spooks Up Some Fun In ESO For The Next Week

Posted on October 23, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Denizens of the online version of Tamriel can spend the next week collecting time limited epic loot to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve with The Witches Festival in-game event. After picking up a free “Crows Caller” memento item from the Crown Store players can begin a special holiday quest. Completing the quest will reward players with a Witchemother’s Whistle and Witchemother’s Cauldron Memento items. While players can keep these items, their XP granting powers will only work until the event ends.

Defeating World Bosses and Delves bosses will award players with a “Plundered Skull” which is a time-limited item that will provide with special Witches Festival recipes, housing items, and even armor motifs!

Here is the full rundown of items available from the Plundered Skulls:

  • Hallow Jack Crafting Motifs
  • Sweet Sanguine Apples (Recipe)
  • Crunchy Spider Skewers (Recipe)
  • Pumpkin Snack Skewer (Recipe)
  • Ghastly Eye Bowl (Recipe)
  • Frosted Brains (Recipe)
  • Witchmother’s Potent Brew (Recipe)
  • Witchmother’s Party Punch (Recipe)
  • Double Bloody Mara (Recipe)
  • Pumpkin Mask (Runebox)
  • Scarecrow Specter Mask (Runebox)
  • Spooky Housing Items (Housing – Various)

Bethesda and Zenimax Online Studios have also included seven different achievements for The Witches Festival. Unlike other achievements completing them won’t give you access to exclusive dyes but if you manage to complete all seven you’ll be granted the unique title: “Sun Dusk’s Reaper”.

I spent the majority of my evening farming delve and world bosses to get my hands on some of the Plundered Skulls. In combination with the several Plundered Skulls that I collected this evening and the gold I had on my main character I was able to afford the Hallow Jack style pages for my feet, chest, and gloves. I’m only missing shield, sword, shoulders, and helm and I’ll have the complete set. World bosses seem pretty generous when it comes to the Amber needed to craft any of the Hallow Jack styles that you may learn.

Stock up on these items now because in a week they’ll be gone. More information on The Witches Festival is available at the source link below.

Quake Champions Will Hopefully Learn From DOOM’s Multiplayer Missteps

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Today at their pre-E3 press conference Bethesda revealed the rumored Quake reboot to the world and this re-introduction to id Software’s 1990s darling is probably not what a lot of people expected – an arena shooter.

Foregoing the series roots as a open ended corridor shooter Quake Champions aims re-live the glory days (or is that gorey days?) of Quake III arena with a focus on arena style combat. Bethesda says that the game will be accessible for players of all skill levels but will also offer options that cater to the series’ hardcore fans such as an unlocked frame-rate and 120hz monitor support.

A Shot From 1999’s Quake III Arena

After watching the debut trailer, which you can also enjoy in the embedded trailer below, I can’t help but wonder if Quake Champions can learn from last month’s DOOM. The single player of DOOM was absolutely excellent but the game’s multiplayer was not so well received. Featuring generic announcer voices, an odd lack of ambient music during key moments in firefights, a paltry selection of weapons and over powered demon summons – DOOM’s multiplayer pretty much has written the book on HOW NOT to make an arena shooter in 2016.

Bethesda’s pre-launch marketing for DOOM’s multiplayer hailed it as a return to the arena shooters of old and with the announcement of a season’s pass and a lukewarm reception to the game’s open beta it was a foregone conclusion that they would take another stab at building a lasting multiplayer shooter. They’re promising a focus on e-sports combined with character specific abilities abilities and certainly Blizzard’s Overwatch proves that there is a market for such a product, but with contenders like Paragon up and coming – is it took late for one of the FPS team arena champions to make a return?

We’ll find out more about Bethesda’s plans for Quake Champions at this August’s Quakecon. Until then we can just keep watching the debut trailer over and over….

Fallout Shelter Convinced Bethesda to Create More Mobile Games

Posted on February 20, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Fallout Shelter, which was released last year during E3, had a surprising amount of success. As a result, Bethesda has expressed a desire to create more games like it. Speaking to Gamespot, Director Todd Howard said:

“It’s in your pocket, a lot of [the games are] free or easy to try. So every time you’re playing, you’re thinking, ‘We could do one of these, I think we could do something special here.’ So we’re gonna do more.”

Fallout Shelter did so well it temporarily over took Candy Crush Saga as the number one game on the Android and IOS marketplace, and is still making quite a bit of profit to this day. Bethesda is also not the first publisher to have success with mobile spin-offs of major franchises either, with both Tomb Raider Go and Hitman Go making a tidy profit for Square Enix. With these proven successes in the mobile market, it would not surprise me to see more of these spin-offs very soon.

Bethesda Working on Three Big New Projects

Posted on February 18, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

New projects Bethesda

Apparently Bethesda is working on no less than three big projects, each of which represents a “Bethesda-style game”. Speaking at Dice in Las Vegas today, Todd Howard, the director of both Fallout 4 and Skyrim, had this to say:

“We have three longer-term projects we’re doing that are all … we’ll talk about them at a much future date. But they’re different than anything we’ve done before while also being a Bethesda-style game; (they’re) big and crazy.”

It is not known whether one of these three projects is the next entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise, although seeing as “they’re different than anything we’ve done before”, they might very well all be new IP. Calling them Bethesda-style games seems to suggest they will be modern RPG’s in the vein of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Like with Ubisoft, I am somewhat worried that making the same game with a different coat of paint will eventually become tiresome. Bethesda isn’t milking that cow nearly as hard as Ubisoft however, and applying the formula to vastly different settings could be interesting. We still have far too few wild-west RPG’s in my humble opinion. Plus, if that happens, somebody will mod in Macho Man. Somebody always mods in Macho Man. And it will be glorious.

Bethesda Releases Brief Doom Teaser Trailer

Posted on May 18, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda Game Studios in collaboration with id Software have released a very brief 15 second gameplay trailer to promote their upcoming Doom reboot. The trailer promises that we will get more information at Bethesda’s E3 Press conference on June 14th.

Gameplay for Doom was first shown to the public at last year’s QuakeCon but the publisher did not allow anyone to record what was shown. According to reports the game goes back to its early 90s FPS roots complete with strafing, jetpacks and of course the awesomely overpowered B.F.G 9000. Apparently the developers have also incorporated finishing moves into some enemy encounters. The player is able to eviscerate their opponent by ripping off their jaw, tearing out their heart and other gruesome fatalities.

No release date for Doom has been given but considering it is getting a large presence at Bethesda’s E3 press conference a late 2015 / early 2016release date isn’t out of the question. Doom will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Bethesda Teases New Video Game, Reveal Tomorrow

Posted on April 18, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Bethesda, for the past few days, have released some really weird teaser clips for their next game. Announced today that the full reveal will in fact be tomorrow (April 19th, 2013), we can’t wait to see what they got up their sleeve. I know I personally am looking forward to the next Fallout game, but I’d gladly welcome any new franchise that they want to put out.

The first video features a spinning record, the second features burning flowers and a mystery background person, and the latest one features a shadow creeping around…

Can anyone make any sense of these clips? Bethesda mentioned this has nothing to do with the Fallout franchise, so this must be something new yes? Rumors say that it could be the next Wolfenstien or Zwei (next game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami).

Skyrim DLC Dated For PlayStation 3

Posted on February 1, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Have you been waiting to learn when you can enjoy Skyrim’s add-on campaigns Dawnguard, Dragonborn or Hearthfire on the PlayStation 3? Wonder no longer, players on Sony’s platform are finally going to get their chance to swing their swords into brand new content, and it will all be 50% off during the first week of availability.

Dragonborn will be released on Feb 12th, Hearthfire on Feb 19th and Dawnguard on 26th of this month. You can snag the house building expansion Hearthfire for $5, while the other two are priced at $20.

I’d recommended grabbing them during the half off sale as there is quite a lot of content packed into Dragonborn and Dawnguard.

TES V: Skyrim DLC Leaked? Possible Dragon Mounts?

Posted on October 16, 2012 by Joshua Rust

If any truth is behind the information hidden away in the PC version of the most recent patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it appears that the next DLC could be called “Dragonborn” and feature ride-able dragons.

OXM reports:

“Quest markers for Solstheim, Telvanni, Castle Karstaag, Raven Rock and Miraak Temple have been discovered, alongside entries for what appear to be four new armour varieties – Bonemold, Chitin, Nordic and Stalhrim. Finally, there are files for the aforesaid dragon-riding animations. Looks like you’ll be casting spells from dragon-back, too. “

This could be all too real. I’m sure with the leak, that Bethesda will announce something concrete soon. If the patch files aren’t enough proof of this, Zenimax (parent company of Bethesda) trademarked the name “Dragonborn” earlier this year.

What say you about some dragon-riding-spell-casting action?
