Skyrim Gets Even More “Legendary”

Posted on March 4, 2013 by Joshua Rust

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the best looking games you will find on a console. Probably one of the most massive worlds you will ever roam as well. It’s great to see a game, especially of this size, still getting the support it needs and deserves from Bethesda for the players who are still roaming the land in pursuit of legend, fame, and an arrow in the knee.

So, if you’ve mastered playing Skyrim on the hard difficulty get ready because when the new update launches (sometime soon) it will add a “Legendary” difficulty. In addition to that, you will be able to reset your skills once they reach level 100 (deemed: Legendary) and start leveling them back up again – along with your character level…presumably resulting in an unlimited level cap? Read on for more details.Read More

RAGE DLC “The Scorchers” Arrives Next Week

Posted on December 14, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Rage released October 4th, 2011…and now, over a year later, id Software and Bethesda have announced that they will be releasing The Scorchers DLC next week for 400 MSP (or $5). The Scorchers was originally planned to be a part of the main game but was cut from the title before it released.

Here is the press release from Bethesda:

Return to the Wasteland in The Scorchers, an all-new RAGE add-on from id Software – arriving on 360, PC, and PS3 next week for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points).

In this brand-new adventure spanning six all-new areas, you will fight alongside new allies to defend the Hager Settlment from a maniacal bandit clan known as The Scorchers. Along the way, you’ll participate in a new season of Mutant Bash TV, encounter new mini-games, and wield the overpowering and brutal Nailgun.<

In addition to the new content, this DLC includes ‘Ultra-Nightmare’, a new high difficulty mode, as well as an ‘Extended Play’ option that allows you to play past the original ending of the game – giving you the opportunity to finish collecting items and achievements.

So we get a new difficulty level, an extended play (which I need to wrap up some collectibles), and a whole new adventure. Heck yes! Next week is going to be awesome! Anyone still holding onto their Rage copy or will  you go pick it up again at the store?

Dishonored 1.2 Patch Available

Posted on December 4, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bethesda has released a new patch for Dishonored bringing the game up to version 1.2 on all platforms. The majority of these fixes are rather minor including one or two encounters that invalidate a non-lethal playthroughs and a bug that prevented the game from being played offline on Steam.

Check out the full list of fixes courtesy of the Bethesda Blog below:

BUG FIXES

  • Support for playing the game on multiple screens.
  • Game Settings are now saved and restored properly even when using Steam offline.
  • Fixes for some interactions with Granny Rags that invalidated nonlethal playthroughs under certain circumstances. (Note: These fixes work even for savegames AFTER the final Granny Rags encounter.)
  • Fix for a crash that could happen during loading/transition between areas – notably near Dr. Galvani’s house.
  • Reworked “Choke” interaction to make it more reliable in valid contexts.
  • Fixed minor localization issues (PS3/360).
  • Fixed global post-process that sometimes worked improperly during some missions.
  • Fix for a rare crash that could happen when killing a NPC with a possessed rat and spring razor (PS3/360)

Bethesda Considers Dishonored ‘A Franchise’

Posted on November 28, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dishonored has been a bit of a critical darling recently and Bethesda has gained from this in terms of higher than expected sales. Speaking about the title Bethesda’s Pete Hines tells Destructoid that the game is now considered a franchise.

Here’s the direct quote:

“We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise.”

Did you enjoy Dishonored? We would love to hear your impressions of the game in our comments section. Perhaps now that we know that Bethesda is committed to the franchise perhaps we’ll see a new entry come the launch of the next generation consoles, or shortly there after.

User Video Shows Off Improvements In Boom II BFG Edition

Posted on November 27, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Doom 3 BFG Edition didn’t exactly set the world on fire when it launched last month. Promo’d on Bethesda’s official twitter feed this morning was an impressive user video that shows off some of these changes including some impressive lighting displays that really enhance the dark creepy corridors of the original.

For the uninitiated BFG Edition includes a remixed version of 2004’s Doom III including a brand new set of levels, polished graphics & reworked textures and game-play balance changes such as the ability to wield the flashlight while weilding your weapon of choice. It also includes the original Doom and Doom III with achievements (or trophies).

At press time this video doesn’t have many views but let’s change that, shall we?

The Elder Scrolls Online Gameplay Video Released

Posted on November 9, 2012 by Les Major

Many fans were concerned when the first images of The Elder Scrolls Online were released. It looked and sort of felt more like Warcraft than The Elder Scrolls. I havn’t kept up much on the project since then and the gameplay video recently released really stands out as looking much more like the art style we’ve come to expect from the series.

It really is surprising considering at times it feels more like you’re watching Skyrim third person action rather than the MMO fans were unsure about. This is really something to check out and there are quite a few details released in this developers diary video below. Just for the basics it looks like all of Tamriel is accessable however Cyrodiil (the area from Oblivion) is contested and the location of the games PVP combat.

New Dishonored Dev Diary Immerses You

Posted on September 11, 2012 by Joshua Rust

The amazing people over at Arkane Studios may have a winning formula on their hands with their new IP Dishonored. Recent releases have been categorized by being the “same old stuff”. Dishonored will try to ease these pains by bringing something a little different to the tables.

This developer diary shows of the world of Dunwall. This is an awesome looking game and if you haven’t checked it out yet you need to start right now.

[youtube id=”P9E9FEcyfAY” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Hearthfire Skyrim DLC Coming To Xbox Live Next Week

Posted on August 28, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Announced today by Bethesda is a new download for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Xbox 360. Hearthfire is the name of the upcoming DLC in which you have the option to buy a plot of land and build a house for yourself.

You will be able to customize the house by adding kitchens, greenhouses, libraries, an alchemy room, and even a trophy room inside the house. Outside you can create gardens, fish hatcheries and beehives for all your harvesting desires!  Also, you are able to hire a steward to help you will all the daily duties that come with the house.

If that’s not enough, you can now adopt and raise orphans there as well. It’s a shame they don’t let you have your own kids with your wife/husband. What would be cooler than a Half-Orc/Half-Khajiit?

Hearthfire will arrive on the Xbox Live Marketplace on September 4th for 400 Microsoft Points. As far as I know, no details on the PS3 version of this…I assume Bethesda is still trying to get the Dawnguard DLC out first.

Rumor: Fallout 4 In Development, Set In Boston

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Fallout series might be taking another venture out to the east coast with the next installment in the revitalized Role-playing franchise. Reportedly the next installment which Bethesda Softworks is hard at work on will transport players to The Commonweath, also known as Boston Massachusetts.

Members of Bethesda’s development staff have apparently been scoping out the MIT campus and the surrounding area, all the while working on the game. The connection to MIT is of particular interest, as IGN points out, because of “The Institute”, a future version of the school that is connected to a conflict involving deadly androids.

No word on whether or not this game will be released on current generation hardware or is set for release on the PlayStation 4 (or Orbis) or the Xbox 360. Given that Bethesda has published 3 RPG titles this generation (Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim) a Next Gen version is almost a certainty, just remember it took them almost 3 years to release Fallout 3 after Elderscrolls IV went gold in early 2006. Perhaps a late 2014 release? We’ll have to wait and see.

Skyrim’s 1.7 Patch Is Finally Coming To Consoles This Week

Posted on August 8, 2012 by Seung Lee

It’s August 8 as I write this article. Why is this little fact important? Well, the latest title update for Bethesda’s Skyrim is version 1.7, and it’s going to be hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 tomorrow. Specifically, 360 Skyrim players from all across the world can expect the patch tomorrow. For the PS3 version, the patch will only be hitting the states on the 9th. The European version of 1.7 will be out the following week.

What exactly does 1.7 do? That’s a good question; it fixes a number of glitches such as general memory and stability optimizations. That’s not all, the 360 version will receive fixes for Spanish, German, French, and Italian shouts. Check out the Twitter announcement regarding patch 1.7 here.

P.S. Still don’t have any info on the PS3 release date for Dawnguard. It’s coming though, don’t worry.
