The Many Boothes, Game Stations & Custom Stuff From PAX East

Posted on April 25, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Penny Arcade Expo floor is absolutely massive and it’d almost be impossible for one person to see every game, exhibit and custom piece of kit being shown off. Over the course of the last three days I’ve checked out everything from hardware manufacturers, to Square Enix’s latest offerings to the Indie Mega Booth in search of some of the coolest stuff to be found on the show floor. Fionna shot an excellent 7 minute floor walkthrough video that gives you a small taste of the PAX East experience. [youtube id=”VqAjUZDMSVQ”]

Streamline is fun fast, and wacky

Posted on April 23, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

One of the first things I got to see at PAX this week was Streamline, a new game from Proletariat. The game it self is really quite simple, you play either as the broadcaster, who runs around trying to wack the contestants with a giant stop sign, or as the contestnats who run around collecting pac-man dots of varying values. Thats the whole game. I spent time playing as one of the runners who has access to a variety of jumps and a sprint. Game play is really simple, deceptively so. There are tons of ups and down areas where you

Necropolis Hands-on Video & Details

Posted on April 23, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Delving into the darkest dungeons of gaming can be a fools errand for those who are unaware of their surroundings. Washington based developer Harebrained Schemes hope to take the concept of a challenging dungeon crawler and turn it on it’s head with the addition of rogue-like elements in their upcoming game Necropolis. Each dungeon in Necropolis is procedurally generated with new item, weapon and enemy placements. The player is tasked with advancing down the dungeon’s many levels, with each floor bringing of a challenge than the last. Upon death the player loses all of their collected weapons and power-ups save

Croixleur Sigma Video And Impressions

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

During PAX East Fionna and I had a chance to check out Croixleur Sigma on the show floor at the indie megabooth. This stylized anime infused action game includes a number of different modes and during the show I got the chance to play a few solid minutes while talking with some of the developer’s PR reps. From what I played the survival mode has your character facing off against waves of enemies, stringing along combos builds your character’s score and is the key to making progress in the survival mode. Each face button on the PlayStation four controller corresponds

ITS: Into The Stars

Posted on April 18, 2016 by Kyle Scarboro

Word around the information super highway is that this little game, aptly named Into the Stars, is a hybrid of Star Trek Commander and FTL: Faster Than Light, but is it really? The people have spoken and the people are generally right. Into the Stars is filling the void of the lack of spaceship commander based games that are out there. With inspiration gathered from these games and mixing it with a collection of modern ideas and stunning graphics, Into the Stars is paving the way and breaking ground on a genre that has not been explored to its full

Posted on April 17, 2016 by Jason Nason

Activision and Sony Pictures has announced a pair of new Ghostbusters video games set in and inspired by the comedic action world of the upcoming Ghostbusters film, which hits theaters on July 15th. Taking place after the events of the new movie, both Ghostbusters games introduce new casts of rookies keeping watch over the station while the now-famous Ghostbusters tour the country stopping high-profile poltergeists. When paranormal phenomena unleash apparitions across New York City, these new squads of recruits must don their proton packs and wrestle those rogue spirits back to the afterlife! The console game, Ghostbusters, is a third-person

Weekend Steam Deals: Activision Publisher Sale

Posted on April 14, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

This weekend’s Steam deals include a number of deals on several Activision titles across a number of genres. Everything from several Call of Duty titles, multiple Transformers games and Platinum Game’s recent Legend of Kora title have been heavily discounted until Monday morning. If you’ve wanted to jump in on older Activision games like 2012’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, which seems to be several times better than last year’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 now is the time time to do so for less than $5! Here’s the some of the better deals in the Activision Publisher Sale (in Canadian Dollars): Call of Duty

Marble Mountain Rolls in | Review

Posted on April 11, 2016 by Erika

Marble Mountain Logo
When I first looked at Marble Mountain, it reminded me of a game that I used to play back in my Commodore 64 days: Marble Madness back around 25 years ago. For people not familiar with that game, the goal was to guide the marble to the exit. Simple, right? With small pathways to navigate and obstacles that deliberately tried to knock you off, along with a very short timer proved many a gamer wrong. Lose enough marbles and you’ve lost the game while probably in a mood to throw a controller due to how difficult the game was. While

Paragon Early Look

Posted on April 3, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

I was lucky enough to get in to the Beta test phase of Paragon from EPIC studios. The game is very ambitious Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that is challenging many of the traditional MOBA elements, while still keeping to the genres roots. The first thing that anyone who plays this game is going to notice is how pretty it it. The game is rendered in Unreal engine 4, and everything looks amazing. Colors pop, champions animations are fluid and beautiful, and the map is alive with terrain that is anything but flat. The second thing you are likely to

PolyRace races in for a review

Posted on March 30, 2016 by Erika

PolyRace logo-d
PolyRace may seem like a deceptively basic and easy racing game at first glance, but it provides enough variety to be able to play though and try for the best times while not trying to crash and burn. After starting the game up and customizing the controls to my liking, I fired up a training mission to get a feel for the overall game. With a fresh game, the player is limited in their options for choosing hover-cars, difficulty, and track type. As one progresses though Missions, those will unlock, which gives decent variety for running through races.   One

Hands On With Adventure Quest 3D & A Chat With Artix

Posted on March 24, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Adventure Quest is one of those intellectual properties that feels timeless, not in the fact that it has never advanced, but in the sense that it has always just kind of been around in one form or another since 2002. At GDC 2016 I got the chance to sit down with a member of the Artix development team working on the game, as well as play a pre-beta version of their new cross platform MMO, Adventure Quest 3D. After a successful Kickstarter campaign which raised almost double their initial goal, totalling over $368 000 USD, Artix Entertainment is busy reimagining

GDC 2016: Sherlock Holmes: The Devils Daughter Preview

Posted on March 20, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sherlock Holmes: The Devils Daughter is an action-adventure game that transports players once again back to Victorian London on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. This latest iteration improves upon previous entries in the franchise by bringing features and gameplay elements from previous games like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment. I got the chance to check out the title at a demo booth at this year’s Games Developer Conference, here are my impressions.

Clickteam Fusion 3 Hopes To Revolution Indie Game Development [World Premiere]

Posted on March 19, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Games have been my passion since I was very young and along with this passion came the spark of creativity – hoping that someday I would be able to develop my own video games. A piece of software from then little-known French software creation firm Clickteam called The Games Factory helped me explore the core concepts of game design. 16 years later, Clickteam is still around and their most current piece of engine technology, Clickteam Fusion 2.5 powers some of the most popular indie titles such as Five Nights at Freddy’s and The Escapists. The next generation of Clickteam developers

ARK: Survival of the Fittest, New Free To Play Game, Out Now

Posted on March 16, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ark: Survival Evolved
Quickly played action-oriented survival games appear to be all the rage lately, with some of the bigger titles like H1Z1 splitting their offerings into multiple games. It should come as no surprise then that ARK: Survival Evolved would join in on the fun. Titled Ark: Survival of the Fittest, this new stand-alone ‘multiplayer online survival arena’ (MOSA???) allows players to literally drop into the world of ARK and rush to supply rich locations before their opponents do. Survival of the Fittest offers a number of different play-styles: there’s the traditional free-for-all battle royale and 2/4/6 player team competition. If the

Posted on March 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix
Square Enix announced their line-up of talks for the 2016 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco California. In total Square has 9 presentations set across the first four days of the conference. Topics range from the use of interactive story mechanics to handle tough issues like suicide, mental illness and loss in Life Is Strange, to the process of optimization that Just Cause 3 developer Avalanche Studios used in conjunction with Iris graphics to make the world of JC3 explode with such fidelity. In terms of franchises, this year’s session line-up from Square focuses on games that have already been released like the two
