Call of Duty: Black Ops II | Review

Posted on November 21, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Version tested: Xbox 360 It’s that time of year again. The days are becoming darker; your wallet is getting lighter, and your waist is growing larger. To curb these seasonal blues, Activision is here with Call of Duty: Black Ops II (hereafter Black Ops 2), the ninth entry in the series and the fourth developed by Treyarch. You may not remember there being nine Call of Duty games, and that’s because Activision is cognizant of the stigma sequelitis projects. After Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, they dropped the sequential numerical approach and adopted subtitles to differentiate installments. Besides, Call of

Assassin’s Creed III | Review

Posted on November 19, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Very few instances in American history have a greater importance or significance than the Revolutionary War. It marks a time when the colonists stood up to their motherland and fought for freedom and independence. We all know the story… or do we? What if there was a more sinister plot that the history books left out? What if the Templars & Assassins secretly altered history for what they believed was the true vision of America? I can’t think of a better point in history to bring one of the most intriguing fictional storylines in gaming today. Without ruining too much

007 Legends | Review

Posted on November 14, 2012 by Jason Bassett

I have been a big fan of the 007 franchise since the days of Goldeneye (both the movie and the game). I haven’t missed one in theaters since Die Another Day and I have loved the countless old-time 007 movies to this day; The Man with the Golden Gun is my favorite. When Activision announced that they were going to be making a game out of some of the old favorites and Die Another Day, I was really excited to see where they would take this game and its routes. Apparently, Activision and Eurocom seemed to forget what James Bond

Hotline Miami | Review

Posted on November 14, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

First impressions are often deal-breakers for so many, especially for those that look for the next video game to play. It can seem quite obvious that when anyone looks at a single glance at a screenshot for Dennation Games’ Hotline Miami, they see a pixelated 2D top down game that seems to take place inside a decently detailed building layout that also takes place in an ever-color-changing gradient. From a basic perspective, it’s not enough to win over an audience; that is until you see the game for what it truly is and discover that it’s more than looks that

Halo. Just the sound of the word has many meanings to many fans around the world. There are bands and there are even ideologies of a “halo”. For many people around the world, it is a major part of life. Spanning fans from many countries around the world, it’s no longer just a video game. It is a universe. The universe of Halo spans multiple mediums from video games, movies, music and reading material. This year, we celebrate the legacy of Master Chief and his AI Cortana for a whole new trilogy, starting with Halo 4. Halo 4 was released

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams | Review

Posted on November 12, 2012 by Les Major

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is an incredibly challenging platformer for gamers who also enjoy puzzles. It doesn’t seem that harsh at first, you’re bounding through fields, going through the basic game mechanics to learn how Twisted Dreams is played. Then it hits you as you start getting into the castle levels, and only hardcore gamers need apply.

Worms: Revolution | Review

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

If you were to think about video game franchises that have had a constant stream of releases in spite of economical and cultural shifts in the last few years, you would immediately point fingers at the more obvious Mario, Legend of Zelda and even Call of Duty as of recent. However, no one would ever mention Team 17’s algebraic trajectile strategy franchise, or better known as the Worms series; a franchise with more than a dozen titles to its name on everything from the Amiga to the Xbox 360. Truthfully, the only reason that people often forget about Worms is

Double Dragon Neon | Review

Posted on November 5, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Version tested:  PlayStation 3 Double Dragon has one of my favorite openings in games:  A babe stands alone in a street and a gang approaches her; a dude steps forward from the gang and he punches the babe straight in the gut. He then hoists her over his shoulder, turns, and walks off with the gang. The garage door of the residence in the background opens, and 1P emerges. He has a Camero by his side, but ignores it. He’s taking this to the streets. Everyone on the street. You’re Billy Lee, and some dudes just took your girl, and

WWE’13 | Review

Posted on November 4, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Woo Woo Woo You Know It, it’s time for the annual WWE release with WWE’13, developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ. The game was released on October 30th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii consoles. The game is the second of the WWE series of games but the fifteenth overall in the combined series. This review is based on my experiences with the Xbox 360 version of the game. The question now is should you go smell what WWE’13 is cooking? Or avoid it like the rebranding of ECW in 2008. Find out below.

Dragon’s Dogma | Review

Posted on October 30, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Editor’s note:  Storms are raging on the east coast of Canada and the United States right now. Here’s a review from our very own Jason Fayta as he looks back on this past spring’s Dragon’s Dogma. Our original content schedule should be back on track soon! Version tested: PlayStation 3 Capcom, famed developer and publisher that has brought gamers such franchises as Resident Evil and Street Fighter, enters the action role-playing genre on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with Dragon’s Dogma, a successful foray into fantasy open-world role-playing games. Taking inspiration from Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Capcom’s own offerings, Monster Hunter and

Resident Evil 6 | Review

Posted on October 27, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

There is no hope left… that is until you take control in the next entry of Capcom’s popular survival horror franchise with Resident Evil 6. The game was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with a PC release sometime in 2013.  This review is based on my experiences with the Xbox 360 version of the game. Is Resident Evil 6 worth it, read on if you dare…

XCOM: Enemy Unknown | Review

Posted on October 26, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

XCOM: Enemy Unkown is the resurrection of a once great series. The original XCOM titles were amazing tactical and unforgiving you could lose hours trying to save the world. I’d love to say that Enemy Unknown is the perfect return to form however that would just not be true. This series has been updated sometimes for the better and other times for the worse.

FIFA 13 | Review

Posted on October 23, 2012 by Jason Nason

FIFA 13 is a solid soccer game with lots of depth and the key to playing the game is to remember the old phrase that “there is no I in team.” While that may seem like a silly thing to say when playing a single player game the game is much more satisfying and you will have more fun playing if you let the other game controlled players on your team take part in the defending.

NiGHTS into DREAMS… | Review

Posted on October 22, 2012 by Jeff Wade

Much like listening in on someone’s dreams, NiGHTS into Dreams… is endlessly fascinating to those experiencing it but incomprehensible to anyone listening in. First released on the Sega Saturn 16 years ago, NiGHTS (hencforth just Nights for the sake of copy editors everywhere) was Sonic Team’s big push for the console, an ambitious game that aimed to accurately convey the feeling of flight just as their namesake aimed to capture the sensation of speed. This re-release comes in two flavors; a no frills rendering of the original as seen in 1996 and an HD upscale of the 2008 Japan only
