Microsoft Won’t Have a Presence At TGS or Gamescom 2012

Posted on June 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Microsoft will be skipping out on both the Tokyo Games Show and Gamcom in Germnay this year in order to focus on smaller promotional events the hardware manufacturer announced today through Major Nelson’s blog.

This leaves Sony as the only big manufacturer left to attend Gamescom, which is the largest public gaming convention in the world. Nintendo confirmed earlier this year that they too would also not have a presence this year at the show. Now that I think about it, Microsoft also pulled out of CES, this year. Their keynote at the Las Vegas show was unfortunately their last after a number of years in attendance.

Does this mean that Microsoft will go the Nintendo route? – Smaller invite only events and live streaming conferences? We’ll see in the months leading up the launch of Halo 4 and Smart Glass. Surely they can’t launch both of these products without some kind of promotion.

Neocore says the game features “larger-than-life heroism and snappy dialogues, with wry humor and various twists on the well-known Gothic cliches.”

Check after the jump for the screenshots that Neocore sent out today:

Broken Joysticks E3 Reactions #1

Posted on June 13, 2012 by Kirk Williford

E3 is over and now it’s time for our staff to share their thoughts on the show. First up executive editor Kirk Wiliford:

Mark down E3 2012 as being one of the most boring, uninteresting and flat-out underwhelming E3s of all time. You know it’s bad when I can only recall one major new IP being announced, and although Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs looks absolutely fantastic, it wasn’t enough to save the show. From Usher concerts to TechDemoLand, there were lots of things to be concerned about going into the future of the E3 expo. Here’s just a snippet of what I thought about E3 2012, condensed into my three biggest questions:Read More

Babel Rising Launches On Xbox Live Arcade & PlayStation Network

Posted on June 13, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ever wanted the power to smite an entire civilization? Ubisoft grants us all this power in their latest Xbox Live Arcade / PSN title Babel Rising. The goal in tower of Babel is to prevent the people of Babylon from building the ancient Tower of Babel, and in order to accomplish this players must use their divine powers, with either the PlayStation Move or Microsoft Kinect.

The whole thing sounds like it could be very entertaining. Who hasn’t stood in front of their Kinect and asked themselves “Why can’t I hurl lightening bolts with this thing?”

Posted on June 11, 2012 by Andrew Minott

2D stealth game Mark of the Ninja, coming soon to XBLA from Shank 2 developers Klei Entertainment, has five new screenshots that showcase the titular ninja’s sneaky shenanigans.

From the official site:

  • Observe… your enemies from the darkness, and use your agility to gain the high ground. Plan your line of action, and execute it before they discover you.
  • Manipulate… You foes with simple yet versatile tools. Blow out lights with a bamboo dart, create a diversion with a child’s firecracker, and kill your prey with a deadly trap.
  • Experience… The tension and thril of being a ninja — powerful but fragile, quick but deliberate.

SEGA Shutting Down Xbox 360 Phantasy Star Servers

Posted on June 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The lights will finally go out for SEGA’s Phantasy Star Universe on September 7th, just three short months from now. The Xbox 360 version of the game is actually the last of three released (the game also came out for PS2 and PC) to support online play but that is about to come to an end.

The shutdown of the PSU servers is certainly a blow for the small but dedicated community who have kept the game going all of these years. SEGA did issue a brief statement about the shutdown on their official forums:Read More

League of Legends EU Accounts Compromised

Posted on June 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

We are no strangers to Riot Game’s PC MOBA title League of Legends here at Broken Joysticks. It’s disheartening to hear that the games West and Nordic European servers have been compromised and encrypted passwords & email addresses have been placed in the hands of those who would use them for harm.

The company says that no billing related information has been obtained by the hackers but if they were to un-encrypt the passwords used for the small number of LOL accounts compromised, that would be bad.

If you live in Europe and have an active LOL account it wouldn’t be a bad idea to simply login and change your password. You also might want to make sure that the same password is not used for any other online service.
