Posted on June 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Assassin’s Creed III made a huge impact at last week’s E3, with appearances at Ubisoft’s own press conference as well as Sony’s big night.  No one can deny that the hype surrounding both ACIII and AC: Liberation are running high.

The folks at Jummy Kimmel Live filmed a brief one minute skit to promote the game at E3 complete with revolutionary cosplayers and the Creative Director of the game Alex Hutchinson.

It’s really neat – check it out in the embedded player below.

NarcoTerror E3 Hands-on

Posted on June 9, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

NarcoTerror is a topdown (mostly) dual stick shooter from the brand new publisher Rubicon, coming to XBL, PSN, and PC download platforms later this year.

The concept of the game is to turn the 80’s action movie Commando into a twin stick shooter, which it succeeds at by using a jungle setting, loads of crazy high powered weapons, and a whole lot of fun explosions from satchel charges and grenades. Also following the 80’s motif all the on screen HUD elements have a slick retro font and effect on them.

Forza Horizons E3 Demo

Posted on June 9, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

After four games in the series that have stuck to the track day, racing career formula, Forza Horizon is out to bring open road racing to the tried and true gameplay that fans have enjoyed for years now.

The playable race at the show was a nice mellow country road, mostly two lanes with a few small four lane areas. Now I know I said the road was mellow, that is until the race started… So as it turns out when you bring a Viper onto a quiet little road, quiet goes right out the window.

The game looks great, with very, very detailed car models, good roadside vistas and even damage models.
All the cars sound like the real world versions, which is to say they sound like “The god of thunder gargling nails.”

Who Is The Villain of The Last of Us?

Posted on June 8, 2012 by Andrew Minott

The end of the world has a notorious habit of showing us who we truly are. Thankfully, none of us have had to experience the end of the world, and since the whole Mayan thing is nonsense we shouldn’t have to any time soon. But we have bucketfuls of stories, ramping up sharply in number since World War II due to the fact that nuclear weapons made the eradication of human civilization relatively affordable and convenient, like a minivan.

Naughty Dog’s forthcoming The Last of Us presents a world whose end was less cataclysmic, but just as horrific. In their original teaser, the main characters Joel and Ellie (voiced by the waitress Captain America saved) fight off both a presumably human thug, and a… spore monster?

But who’s the bad guy?Read More

38 Studios Files for Bankruptcy

Posted on June 7, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios have declared chapter 7 Bankruptcy earlier today. Currently an FBI investigation is under way for the game developer for neglecting to pay their employees, according to a report filed by WPRI News.

During the development of Kingdoms of Amalur back in 2010, the development house agreed to a $75 million dollar loan from the state of Rhode Island in order to move its company and its employees to the state to create more jobs. Unfortunately, due to the strain of developing an MMORPG and the poor sales of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the developer could not pay a loan back to the state. This set off a chain of events that lead to the closing of Big Huge Games that 38 Studio’s purchased in 2009.

To make matters worse for the employees, 38 Studios have said that they will not repay the mortgages that employees were told they wouldn’t have to pay back for houses still in Massachusetts.

On a positive note, Big Huge Games will be purchased by Epic Games and will hire each employee that was working with the company at the time.

Today, at least for now, the ugly story of 38 Studios has come to an end.

Star Trek The Game: Villains, Screenshots & More

Posted on June 7, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Namco Bandai have released several new screenshots for their upcoming Movie Tie-in game for JJ Abram’s second Star Trek film. The recently released screenshots give us our first look at the game’s villains, massive hulking creatures that would scare even the most seasoned officer, as well as a glimpse of the highly detailed main bridge.

These new screenshots aren’t the only recent news surrounding the project. Earlier in the week it was confirmed that both Christopher Pine and Zachary Quinto, the new Kirk & Spock, will voice their characters in the videogame adaptation.

We also learned a little bit more bout some of the villains featured in the game. A race known as the Gom take center stage against Captain James T Kirk and his crew of Starfleet officers. The gom varry in size and ability but are warriors who are able to infect their targets with a venom that causes and hallucinations and can be fatal.

We’ll have more about the Star Trek videogame in the future. Check out the new screenshots after the jump.

Pokemon Dream Radar & PokeDex 3D Pro Work With Black & White 2

Posted on June 6, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo reaffirmed that owners of Pokemon Black & White 2 will benefit from playing the game on a 3DS, even though the game was designed for the original 3DS.

Details were sparse but players will be able to use the Dream Radar to locate hard to find & rare Pokemon via an augmented reality mini-game using the system’s rear camera. Who wouldn’t want to shoot a Lugia in the face with a yellow beam? Pokemon captured through Dream Radar will be transferable on to the Black & White conference.  PokeDex 3D Pro is an updated version of the PokeDex 3D application that was released last.

No price was available for either game but as soon as we hear a price or release date we will bring it to you.

During the Nintendo 3DS software press conference several new features were mentioned including the ability to explore multiple mansions and use a multicolored beams to the feet Luigi’s foes.

Make Money From League of Legends, Officially

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Today Riot Games released a brief guide (in plain English, not legalese) officially informing the League of Legends community that they fully allow not only the production and uploading of League of Legends content on video sites such as YouTube and Twitch.tv, but also the collection of advertising revenue associated with such content by the producers. This was done to remove any ambiguity regarding the legal problems that could potentially arise from someone broadcasting (and making money from) intellectual property that is owned by someone else.

In the past few months, the number of popular professional players who occasionally stream their games live online has increased dramatically, even receiving front page news coverage on Riot’s LoL site. And the public launch of a full Spectator Mode last month has also increased the amount of amateur commentary tracks to be found on YouTube. Today’s official announcement puts to rest any concerns that such content producers could possibly be committing any kind of copyright infringement, especially in light of controversies surrounding the embattled Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the United States, and similar legislation currently under discussion in other countries.

Soul Sacrifice E3 Trailer

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony has released the first trailer for upcoming action role playing game Soul Sacrifice. This Vita title is hardly your average high fantasy fare, sure it features heroes adorned in leather armor sporting broad swords but it’s magic system is what sets it apart. Instead of the usual magic points represented by a meter on screen that were used too, Soul Sacrifice requires the player make a sacrifice in order to use their magical abilities. These sacrifices can range from a limb to a human life.

The game has Artie been confirmed for North American release but no time frame has been given. The fact is being produced by Keiji Inafune of Mega Man fame is more than enough reason to get us excited. Check out the trailer for yourself and will have more as soon as it’s available! i

Death Is Not The End: The First ZombieU Gameplay

Posted on June 5, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The lead designer of the newly announced ZombieU for the Nintendo Wiiu, Gabrielle Shrager, debuted the first gameplay footage from the title this afternoon.

One of the hooks that sets the ZombieU apart from other modern horror games is that your character only has one life. Once your avatar has met its untimely demise you’ll be warped to the body of another survivor in a similar situation, so death isn’t necessarily a game over, but this is an interesting mechanic.

Once you’ve been warped into your body your task becomes to track down your former survivor. You’ll have to defeat them in order to recover your backpack, which acts as the gains inventory.

The idea of no death penalty is interesting, but Ubisoft still hasn’t outlined how exactly players will reach the end of the game. Hopefully we’ll find out more as the development of ZombieU continues. Check out the first gameplay video after the jump.
