Persona 4: Arena Behind The Scenes Video

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Atlus’s Persona 4: Arena has the attention of not only series fans, Otaku (like yours truly ^_~), but also fighting fans due to the pedigree behind the game. Combine one of the pest roleplaying publishers like Atlus with one of the premiere fighting developers in Arc System Works and you’ve got a recipee for success.

The latest promotional video for Persona 4: Arena gives us a glimpse at one of the game’s recording sessions. The video features Yuri Lowenthal, voice of Yosuke Hanamura as he spends sometime behind the mic. Even the pros miss their cues and look kind of silly flubbing their lines.

Persona 4: Arena  will be available in North America on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on August 7th!

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft has a pretty big stable of highly anticipated games coming to Germany’s Gamescom next month. I’m pretty sure everyone expected Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Liberation to be there in full form but how about a chance to check out ZombieU, their much talked about survival horror game from this June’s E3?

On top of the playable demos for the above games Ubisoft will also be hosting a press conference on August 15th at 3PM where they promise to announce at least one new free to play game. Check out the full list of games set to be on the show floor after the jump.Read More

The Broken Joysticks Top 5: Nostalgic Pick Me Up RPGS

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

Greeting dear readers, you will have to excuse my infrequent posts as of late as I prepare for a big move I’m finding myself with less time. Chores, apartment viewings, work and, Rainbow Moon (Yes that review will be posted VERY soon). As life keeps throwing curve balls at me I tend to get depressed. When I get down I always seem to gravitate to immersive games from my childhood. I get wrapped up in these games. They provide an escape which can be a great break from reality. I always come back feeling refreshed ready to tackle whatever life has to throw at me.Read More

See Insomniac Games’ Outernauts On Facebook

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Seung Lee

Outernauts

Starting today, Outernauts is playable on the biggest social networking site right now, Facebook. What is Outernauts? It’s a new game from the folks that brought you classics such as Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Spyro the Dragon. As for how it plays, Outernauts is much like the popular Pokémon franchise.

According to the press release from EA, players will “explore planets, harvest loot, and fight asynchronously alongside or against friends to master a wild, untamed universe.” Don’t think that Outernauts is just a simple flash game to waste an hour or two on though. Ted Price, President and Founder of Insomniac Games, says that by  “bringing the breadth and elements of console gaming to a social game, we hope to give our fans—both old and new—a unique gaming experience on Facebook.”

Try the game now at https://apps.facebook.com/outernauts/. See EA’s press release at http://news.ea.com/portal/site/ea/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&ndmConfigId=1012492&newsId=20120724005027&newsLang=en.

Report: Silent Hill Downpour Developer Under Review

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Vatra Games, developers behind the mediocre Silent Hill Downpour are in trouble according to reports around the industry. Parent company Kuju Entertainment issued a statement regarding Vatra Games, simply saying that they are reviewing all aspects of their games business including the Silent Hill studio.

“[We have] been conducting a strategic review of all aspects of the business  and the activities of Vatra are currently under review.”

Despite all of the denial going around, officially, members of fellow Czech based developer, 2K Czech, tweeted ” Vatra Games RIP” despite no reports of mass layoff, closure or sale just yet. If more develops we will be sure to bring it to you.

Two Older SNK Games Released As PlayStation Minis

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Through the magic of emulation SNK Playmore have brought back a few of their older titles for the modern generation to experience. When we say older, I mean just about as old as our staff members. If you’re reading this and can remember  Time Soldiers on the SNK Alpha from 1987, well then you are a much more hardcore gamer than I can ever hope to be.

Joining Time Soldiers is Gang Wars, ports of games from the 1980s that ran on pre-NEO GEO hardware. Each game is available for $2.99 through the PlayStation Store and will run on either PS3 or PSP using the Minis option on your system’s dashboard. Unfortunately there was no mention of PS Vita compatibility at the time of writing.

Arma 2: Combined Operations Patch Released

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

After Day Z came out, Arma 2: Combined Operations has sold, and this is just a rough estimate, about a bazillion copies. In fact, it always seemed to be in the top 5 best sellers of the latest Steam summer sale even when it wasn’t heavily discounted. Now that so many more people are playing Arma2: Combined Operations, Bohemia Interactive has released a patch (version 1.62) for the title. The press release promises lots of “fixes to multiplayer, which- aside for the large scale military battles, will also make zombie hunts much less prone to crashes and should improve server stability.”

The main highlights of the patch are below, and you can read the whole change log after the jump.

  •     Multiplayer optimizations, security and server improvements
  •     Overall stability was improved with numerous tweaks and fixes
  •     Added new video options (Post-Process Anti-Aliasing, Alpha To Coverage)
  •     Additional AI improvements and numerous bug fixes
  •     Resolved issues with several training missions
  •     Added a lot of new script commands for content makers

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Not even PC’s are safe from the Blacklight Virus that spreads in Activision’s Prototype 2. The publisher has announced that the Windows PC version of Radical Entertainment’s last game will be available in North America starting today and in Europe on July 27th, that’s this coming friday.

The Windows version of the game will retail for $49.99 through several digital distribution services and casts you in the role of James Heller as he traverses a devastated New York City.

If you’re worried your rig won’t be up to the task, you might want to take a peek at the minimum specs for Prototype 2 after the jump. Unfortunately Dual Core machines are out of the running, Prototype 2 seems to be one of the few games that requires at least 3 cores running at 2.6gh with a 3GHZ quad core recommended.Read More

ASTRO Announce A50 Wireless Gaming Headset

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Are you looking for a pair of headphones that may never leave your ears? ASTRO’s latest wireless gaming headset may come at a hefty price, $299.99, but we can guarantee they’ll probably sound better than what you’re using right now. If you need a set of headphones that will put you right into the action of Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty is there any other choice?

Admittedly, we’re not the kind of gamers to spend more on our headphones than we did on the console we’re using them on, but there is no denying there is a market for high quality headphones. You see these things everywhere: whether its demoing a game at a retail chain or convention or watching pro-gaming high quality headphones have a place in the gaming landscape.Read More

Persona 4 Arena Challenge & Story Mode Screens

Posted on July 23, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Atlus has released multiple sets of screenshots for both the challenge mode and story mode for next month’s Persona 4: Arena. If you’d like to see what the Persona 4: Arena will throw in front of you before the game ships, this gallery is for you.

Challenge mode seems to throw the player into pre-determined scenarios against computer controlled opponents. During these matches certain moves will have to be performed in order to progress.

The story mode screenshots are a mixture of anime cut-scene screen grabs and dialogue sections that will be familar to anyone who has played Persona 3 or Persona 4. Persona 4: Arena will be available in North America on August 7th and has already launched in Japan.
