Dedicated Fans Develop Twilight Princess HD Texture Pack

Posted on October 4, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like one particularly dedicated The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Fan has decided to take it upon themselves to develop an updated texture pack for the nine year old Nintendo Wii / Nintendo GameCube title.

Running off of the very popular GameCube/Wii emulator Dolphin this project aims to clean up some of the standard definition textures while adding a bit of a touch of Skyward Sword’s art-style. This isn’t a complete remake but rather touching up assets that already exist.

Project developer Tomoya describes the upgrade as follows:

I’ve decided to retexture Twilight Princess GC! I wanted to keep the original textures, but convert them into HD format as much as possible, and also add a little Skyward Sword style. Twilight Princess was suppose to aim towards a dark look+feel, but failed miserably by the power of blurry/ugly textures. The game also lacks lighting effects and shadow effects, so I’m working on getting shader addons(ReShade, SweetFX, etc.) to become compatible with the game. I’m aiming to get SSAO or HBAO, and DoF to work properly. I’ve seen some people that had success with some effects, but no tutorial. I NEED SOME HELP WITH APPLYING THOSE EFFECTS! I really want to get Twilight Princess polished as much as possible. The textures, that I’ve done, are looking beautiful, but the lackluster of HBAO, SSAO, and DoF is killing the feel. I know it’s possible to get the effects working because I have successfully implemented HBAO and DoF on the Project64 ROMS(Majora’s Mask, OoT, and Conker.) So yeah…

Check out all of these visual upgrades in motion in the video below which amassed over 20,000+ views after being featured on R/Gaming. I personally think this looks absolutely amazing both in still screenshots and when streamed.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask | Review

Posted on February 12, 2015 by Jason Nason

I’ll be honest. I never played the original Majora’s Mask.

Way back when the game was released on the Nintendo 64, I never got around to playing it. I sank countless hours into the game that came before it, Ocarina of Time. But somehow I just never got around to this one. I had heard a lot about the game and it always intrigued me but I never played it.

Until now.

Nintendo is continuing the tradition of updating older games in their catalogue and releasing them on current generation systems. I had always thought that the practice was a little silly, but that opinion has changed because of Nintendo’s latest game.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is a marvel of a game and looks magnificent on the Nintendo 3DS.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds | Review

Posted on January 1, 2014 by Jason Nason

Nintendo has done it again.

You would think that after twenty years and just about as many Zelda titles that the series would have gotten stale. Everything that you think could have been done in a game which, at its core, hasn’t really changed since the start. Well, except for Zelda II but that is a whole other type of game. You would be wrong. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is the first new game for the Nintendo 3DS and the developers have utilized the system’s stereoscopic 3D effect to perfection. They have introduced a brand new game mechanic which adds a whole new level of challenge and complexity to dungeons and exploration, and is one which really gives the game a fresh feel.

New Cartoons Breathe Fresh Life into Nintendo Video

Posted on November 17, 2013 by Jason Nason

Well Nintendo released the first few episodes of The Legend of Zelda: The Misadventures of Link over the last weeks on Nintendo Video. The videos are short as expected, topping up at just over a minute. The first such short little video just has Link, in the polygonal art style of The Wind Waker, crawling through a tunnel collecting rupies before he is dropped through the floor.

The video isn’t anything to write home about but I must say that I love the continued addition of added content to Nintendo Video and not just more music videos. Personally I didn’t really watch the random music videos and skipped right passed them in favour of the other content.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds | PREVIEW

Posted on November 16, 2013 by Jason Nason

Anytime Nintendo launches a new Zelda title it’s a big deal. No matter the time or the system that the game is on every Nintendo and Zelda fan is excited. This time is no different.

There has been no shortage of Zelda games since the series launched on the NES way back in 1986 (1987 in North America). The newest game will be the fifteenth game in the series and the first original title to appear on the Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps the favourite and most celebrated title of the Zelda series is A Link to the Past, the third in the series and only game to appear on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This newest game, A Link Between Worlds, is a sequel to that game.

Two worlds collide in the all-new adventure set in the world of Super NES classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. In this game, Link transforms into a living painting to cross into a dark, parallel dimension mirroring Hyrule.

Nintendo shed a little more light on their upcoming title The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct, including the revelation that the company will be releasing four new 15-second mini-trailers for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds mini trailers. The quick clips will debut on Nintendo’s Instagram page.

Nintendo also detailed a number of characters in the game, including Irene and her magic broom; Seres, who is trapped in a painting; and Gramps, who can help facilitate battles with other players encountered via StreetPass.

Perhaps the biggest news about the game, which wasn’t entirely unexpected, is that on November 22nd when the game launches a new Nintendo 3DS XL bundle will launch.
