Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 19th

Posted on July 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Well, yesterday’s plot didn’t work out so well, and the Steam Sale marches on. I’ve been thinking about ways to stop this ravager of wallets. Perhaps I’ll start a Kickstarter project to bring an end to these deals. The basic concept is that I will build some sort of giant magnet as well as a “mancannon.” We’ll suck out Valve employees with the magnet and shoot them into the Puget Sound with the mancannon, forcing Gabe Newell to end this madness. I’m estimating that this will cost several million dollars and can only hope that EA’s Senior Vice President of Global Ecommerce, David DeMartini, will donate a few million to help get this started.

That being said, you may see today’s deals below.Read More

Steam Summer Sale Deals For July 18th

Posted on July 18, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The Steam Summer Sale continues despite my best attempts at monkeywrenching. In fact, I used all the knowledge at my disposal. For instance, while cutting my cable company’s fiber optic lines, I made certain to cut a section of wire out and take it with me. That makes things harder for the technicians to fix. I also used a taser on my modem and router for good measure.

Then I discovered that this DIDN’T affect Steam in anyway. In fact it just messed things up for me. Oh boy, am I in a pickle now! On the plus side, I won’t have the money for anymore of these pesky sales!

That being said, you may read today’s deals below.Read More

Steam Comes To Linux, First Game Left 4 Dead 2

Posted on July 17, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

There has been one major platform that has been overlooked in regards to Valve’s Steam service and that is Linux. Rumors have circulated for years that THE major digital distribution platform would finally make its way to the open source platform and over the weekend Valve confirmed the existence of the “Steam Penguins” project.

They aim to port the full steam client to Ubuntu 12.04 and currently the small team is working on porting the client over alongside Left 4 Dead 2, which will be the first game to support Linux. Valve has used Linux servers for years, the company says, and development of the Ubuntu version of Steam began in 2011.Read More

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 14th

Posted on July 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

As I feared, the Steam summer sale has continued, and it shows no signs of abating before the 22nd. I tried to fight it, but I eventually gave into the temptation and bought some games. My friend better enjoy Space Marine, because that’s one submarine sandwich that I’ll never be able to eat.

You can see today’s daily deals below.Read More

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 13th

Posted on July 13, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Shortly after 10 AM Pacific Daylight Time, the Steam Summer Sale of 2012 began its second day. The carnage is unspeakable, as Valve continues to ravage the wallets of countless PC gamers. I was even suckered into partaking in one of these so-called deals. For the sake of my discretionary spending, I can only pray that the sale doesn’t start back up again at around 10 AM PDT tomorrow.

That being said, we’ve posted today’s daily deals below. Anything look enticing?Read More

Steam Summer Sale Begins

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Steam Summer Sale has officially started. Are you ready to throw money at GabeN?

There are a few changes from the last couple of sales. First off, there are no achievement hunts or contests. These have been replaced by “Flash Sales” and “Community Choice” deals. Flash sales last for less than a day (for instance Deus Ex Human Revolution is on sale for $7.50 for the next four and a half hours or so). The “Community Choice” deals are voted on by Steam users and last for 8 hours. At the moment, users can choose between massive discounts on Saints Row: The Third, Batman: Arkham City, and The Witcher 2.

Since the Flash Sales and Community Choice deals may very well change before you read this, we’ll just give a rundown of today’s daily deals.

Killing Floor Summer Sideshow Event Begins

Posted on July 6, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The second annual Killing Floor Summer Sideshow event has just begun. As with other seasonal events, the sideshow changes up Killing Floor’s usual menagerie of misanthropic mutants. Instead of facing off against angry, generally nude, specimens, Killing Floor owners will be facing angry specimens with freak show skins. The free update also includes some new achievements, another chance to unlock the Steampunk Mr. Foster skin, the new “Hellride” map, and 5 new weapons that were originally part of the IJC community weapons pack mod. While the skins and seasonal achievements will only be available until the 23rd, the new map and weapons are permanent.

Read on for the trailer and my impressions of the additions.Read More

Second Free DLC Released for Wargame: European Escalation

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Eugen Systems released additional free downloadable content for Wargame: European Escalation today. The “Conquest” DLC adds a new mode (which also goes by the moniker “conquest”). This mode, playable against the AI or other people, is based around seizing and maintaining control of victory sectors on the map rather than annihilating the enemy’s forces. It also comes with 7 new maps (bringing the total number of maps to around 27). To commemorate the new DLC, Wargame is half off on Steam from now until the 9th of July.

You can read my review of Wargame here. Read on if you’re interested in my initial impressions of the DLC.Read More

At Long Last, Meet Team Fortress 2’s Pyro

Posted on June 27, 2012 by Kirk Williford

After Team Fortress 2 was released back in 2007, Valve has steadily released “Meet The” videos for all of the games classes. There was a huge gap since the last video was released, leaving fans wondering when we’d finally get to “Meet the Pyro”. Today, that wait came to an end, as Valve finally released the video — and it’s quite possibly the best one yet. In addition to the video, you’re able to purchase an inflatable Balloonicorn, the Mayor of Valve’s “Pyroland,” for $29.99 on ThinkGeek.

Oh, and no, we still don’t know if the Pyro is male, female, or human at all. I, for one, hope we never find out. Check out the video!

Get ready to install biomechanical modifications with this weekend’s steam deal. Right now you can save 70% off of Edios Montreal’s excellent action RPG Deus Ex Human Revolution. For 14.99 you can’t go wrong with picking up this game, especially since it was almost $60 just last August.

If you already own human Revolution you might want to consider picking up any of the other Deus Ex titles. Both the original Deus Ex and Deus Ex Invisible War are 75% off as well. Had on over to Steam’s storefront for more details.

Civ V Mods Now Available Through Steam Workshop

Posted on June 15, 2012 by Andrew Minott

Civilization V joins Skyrim and Portal 2 on the Steam Workshop section of Steam, a clearinghouse for user-created content. At launch, players had access to map packs such as Middle Earth and Westeros (the main continent in Song of Ice and Fire), additional, wonders, and religions such as Jainism, Baha’i, and Pastafarianism. All downloads are free (though you do need to own the actual game itself), and users are able to rate and comment on individual mods, as well as create custom packs of mods to share with others.

You can check 2k Games’ announcement or go directly to Civilization V’s section of the Workshop to check out what’s available, either in a web browser or your Steam client.

Ubisoft Titles On Sale All Weekend On Steam

Posted on May 19, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft’s vast PC library will be up for sale during various points this weekend thanks to Steam. Every day this weekend Ubisoft will be featuring a different franchise, with each game in that respective franchise a whopping 50 – 75% off. If you can deal with “always on” DRM, then this might be the time to jump into the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry or Rayman franchises. If the particular game you’re looking for isn’t heavily discounted Valve has slashed all Ubisoft published games by 33% for the weekend as well.

Today’s deal has you occupying the shoes of Demond as he relives the genetic memories of his ancestors. Here’s the rundown of all of the Assassin’s Creed savings:

Assassin’s Creed 1 – $4.99

Assassin’s Creed 2 – $4.99

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – $4.99

Assassin’s Creed Revelations – $19.99

It’s too bad I missed yesterday’s deal on the Tom Clancy’s games. I am missing a few of the Ghost Recon games from my collection.
