Major Changes Coming To Destiny’s PVP Loot System

Posted on April 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bungie will be making some substantial changes in how loot drops work for crucible players with the release of House of Wolves this May.

As reported by IGN today:

  • Completed matches in crucible will now be worth 6 marks instead of the current 3, allowing players to earn mid-tier gear a lot faster.
  • Bungie will also be increasing the number of rare drops available to Crucible players – we should be seeing a lot more blue and even some purple drops from PVP!
  • Players will receive one etheric light (used to upgrade exotics) after hitting levels 3 or 5 in the Iron Banner Challenge.
  • Xur the notorious vender who appears during the weekend will no longer be used to upgrade exotic gear. Instead all upgrades will be handled via etheric light drops.
  • Players who place first in PVP matches will be more likely to receive decent drops.

The source article also has some pretty cool quotes from members of the development team as well!

Black Ops III Officially Unveiled

Posted on April 27, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Yesterday Activision and Treyarch took the wraps off of Call of Duty: Black Ops III with a reveal trailer that has amassed over 6 million views on YouTube in the past 24 hrs! Activision has also revealed that the game will be released on November 6th 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

In terms of game modes Black Ops III’s campaign mode can not only be played alone but also co-operatively with up to three friends with the new 4 player Co-Op campaign feature. Fans expecting the popular Zombies mode, which Treyarch pioneered with the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, can rest assured that the mode will be making a return. Activision mentioned that the Zombies mode will actually have its own progression system separate from the one used in the multiplayer mode.

In the world of Black Ops III a new type of bio-engineered super solider is being developed thanks to technologies like the Direct Neural Interface (DNI). Hopefully the game will try to tackle some of the less military focused questions that the teaser trailer brought up in regards to what rapid technological advancement could mean for the human race.Read More

Black Ops III “Embers” Teaser Asks How Far Can Technology Take Us?

Posted on April 23, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

With only 3 days left until the official reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops III Activision Publishing Inc has released a brand new three minute trailer for their upcoming title. Beginning with a montage of technological achievements from the last fifty years such as the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2000 and the rise of wearable computers this decade the trailer, titled “embers”, quickly heads down a very speculative path.

What would happen if organ replacements became an option for only the rich and famous? How would athletics handle the introduction of augmented humans into competitions? What would happen if the military were using augmentation technologies to build the perfect super soldier?

Honestly this trailer gives me some hope that Treyarch are ready to explore some of the societal questions they’ve raised in their pre-reveal campaign. In all honesty this three minute trailer raises questions about technological advancement a lot better than Square-Enix did with their three day long #CantStopProgress marketing event a few weeks ago for the new Deus Ex. It was also kind of amusing that Activision decided to use an Edward Snowden lookalike in their latest trailer as well.

The world reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops III  is scheduled for this coming Sunday, April 26th!

Alongside the release date news the publisher also released a two minute long prologue trailer to get us all hyped up to defend the galaxy once again.

The wait for new content for Activision’s Destiny is almost over with the announcement of a May 19th release date on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 for the next expansion The House of Wolves. Alongside the release date news the publisher also released a two minute long prologue trailer to get us all hyped up to defend the galaxy once again.

Data-miners have already begun combing the latest patches to Destiny to try and find out what content will be available to those who purchase House of Wolves. Expected content includes at least three new story missions, one new strike “The Shadow Thief” and three new crucible maps “The Time Keeper”, “Thieves Den” and “Widow’s Court”.

This trailer was released the same day (Monday) as news broke that House of Wolves will not feature a third high level raid. Bungie issued the following statement via their website:

House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity. We didn’t make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year. House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders.

Black Ops III Full Reveal Coming April 26th

Posted on April 9, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Activision sent out a cryptic press release this morning that simply linking to a YouTube video with the hashtag #BackInBlack. Anyone who is familiar with the Call of Duty franchise will recognize the stylized “III” up in the header of this article as being very similar to the font used to promote Call of Duty: Black Ops II. We’ll find out what the pair of companies has planned when the game’s world reveal takes center stage on April 26!

It is important to note that Activision also partnered with popular Advanced Warfare YouTuber TmarTn for this reveal. Perhaps we will get more small glimpses of the game on his channel before the big reveal.

Earlier in the year there were a number of rumors that the next Call of Duty game would take place during World War 2. Perhaps Black Ops III will have us hoping between the near future and the battles of the Second World War?

More as it develops…

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions | Review

Posted on December 1, 2014 by Les Major

After playing so much of the second Geometry Wars game, I was satisfied and didn’t think the series could evolve further (see what I did there?) but this third installment is a wonderful worthwhile addition. From the newly reformed Sierra we have an unexpected and awesome release. Imagine the gameplay of Geometry Wars, but featuring 3d objects as the grid you move across. It’s like you’re flying around a world in Super Mario Galaxy.

The main feature of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is adventure mode. You’ll encounter various shaped fields to orbit, different alterations that change levels into almost new modes themselves, and even boss battles! At first you may look at adventure mode and think it’s rather small, but each level is actually a quality stage that you’ll want to play again.

It’s an intense game, especially when you’re returning to previous levels to beat your high score and earn more stars. Boss battles need a certain number of stars to be accessed and collecting them is an increasing challenge. When you finally reach a level that focuses on a mode you’re good at, it feels like you’re flying through like a pro.Read More

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Released

Posted on November 26, 2014 by Les Major

One title that really stood out to me as an Xbox Live Arcade game that made challenging your friends fun was Geometry Wars. It’s a pure top down shooter that encourages you to rack up an insane score. Feeling like a classic arcade game, you could easily check the leader boards. I battled it out for a long time against my friend on the original. Every time I logged in, I’d check to see if he’d beat my score and I’d up the ante. Geometry Wars 3 is available across PC, Playstation 3 and 4, as well as Xbox 360 and One.

The sheer enjoyment of besting my friend aside, Geometry Wars is just pure fun. The sequel added even more modes, and now Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions takes the game into a Super Mario Galaxy sort of orbiting the surface of a 3D plane. It really looks to be a game changer! Which says a lot, considering adding new content to the series does feel like a tough challenge. I’m thrilled to see what is in store though. Read on for the trailer and see for yourself!Read More

Skylanders: Trap Team | Review

Posted on November 21, 2014 by Les Major

Skylanders Trap Team expands well with the latest addition of trapping enemies to use as playable characters. This easily could have been a convoluted system, but fortunately it’s quite simple and easy to enjoy in game. No one enemy is confined permanently to a trap (Kaos aside), so for gamers concerned about full trap key sets, worry not. You can enjoy the games content with just one of each element.

Why do I bring this up first? Trap Team has a lot to offer and it’s always intimidating when you’re trying to figure out just how much the base game will cost. After all, buying additional figures comes later when you get eager throughout the year to add more to your collection even though your promised yourself you wouldn’t. It’s that initial step that is always difficult.Read More

This is also the first game in the series to be developed within the newly announced 3 year development cycle. Destiny | Review

Posted on November 5, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PlayStation 3

Destiny quickly become one of the most pre-ordered titles in recent memory and of course it was backed by one of the largest marketing campaigns we’ve seen in a while for a videogame. Needless to say expectations for Bungie’s first post-Halo release reached into the stratosphere and after playing Destiny for quite some time I’m ready to render my verdict. Should you forge ahead into the stars and join the ranks of the Guardians or pass at being an interstellar savior?Read More

Become a Legend With The Destiny Launch Trailer

Posted on September 9, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bungie’s latest title – the  MMO/FPS hybrid Destiny – is now available through both physical and digital retailers. To celebrate Activision released a live action trailer. This live action trailer was directed by Josepth Kosinki whom is probably most well known for helming TRON: legacy. He’s coupled his live action trailer with some Led Zepplin , which if you ask me is a pretty awesome choice.

Activision is trumpeting Destiny as “the most pre-ordered new video game IP” and according to them over 4 million people participated in the in the game’s beta this past July. Players take on the role of a Guardian on the last city on Earth. Adventures aren’t just limited to this planet of ours – the interactive world promises to span the stars with missions located on Mars!

Check out the live action trailer in the player below. Activision has provided Broken Joysticks with a PS3 copy of Destiny and we will be posting our full review in the coming weeks.
