New Tomb Raider Screens Get Down & Dirty

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Joshua Rust

I have to say that I’m extremely excited to get my hands on the new Tomb Raider game when it launches March 5th, 2013.  I think I have played just about every Tomb Raider game that there is and this one looks like it could live up to the classic, original, Tomb Raider game. Throughout Lara’s history there have been some good incarnations and some really bad ones (yes Angel Of Darkness…I’m looking at you).

So in order to tide you over until Tomb Raider gets here, Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics have released some new screenshots for you to enjoy. Ranging from a weapon, to Lara sneaking around, and even going toe to toe with a wolf – these babies look fantastic. So check them out!

Again, Tomb Raider is expected to launch March 5th, 2013. Who’s ready for it?!

Tomb Raider “The Final Hours” Episode 3

Posted on December 2, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have been making sure they let you know everything about the upcoming Tomb Raider title that is due out early next year. This week’s edition stars host Zachary Levi and shows off the soundtrack forTomb Raider as composed by Jason Graves.

For those of you who do not know who Jason Graves is, well…you should. Even if you don’t know him, I can almost guarantee that you have played a game that has had his musical expertise implemented in it –  titles like Dead Space, F.E.A.R., Gauntlet, and Star Trek. For a complete list of all the games (and his many many awards) he has had his hand in, check out this site.

(P.S. Video does have an age gate, so you may have to sign in.)

Posted on November 12, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Square Enix has announced today the details of the North American Collector’s Edition for the March release of Tomb Raider. I’m not sure what the deal is with these collector’s editions, but these last few have been looking sweet! (See Assassin’s Creed III & Bioshock: Infinite)

Tomb Raider is a juggernaut when it comes to video game franchises, reaching an amazing 35 million copies sold worldwide. It’s no suprise that with thisTomb Raider “refresh” that Square Enix would do something special for it.

The contents, as seen above, include:

Play Arts -KAI- Lara Croft figurine– Lara Croft has been beautifully recreated as an 8-inch Play Arts -KAI- action figure. The figure comes with an alternate set of three hands, bow and arrow, shotgun, handgun, and an ice axe.

Double-sided island map and poster – Discover Key Landmarks from the mysterious island of Yamatai, where Lara Croft and her fellow castaways were marooned after the Endurance shipwreck, in this 15” x 19” poster. On the reverse is a poster-size image of the box art that epitomizes Lara’s origin story.

Lithographic print – An exclusive 5” x 7” Lara Croft heavy-stock lithograph print with matte frame designed by Crystal Dynamic’s Brian Horton, senior art director, and Brenoch Adams, concept artist.

Experience Shields –Three iron-on badges based on the game’s experience icons: “Animal Instincts,” the “Climbing Axe” and “Fire Arrow.”

TOMB RAIDER Original Soundtrack ‘Survivalist Cut’- A collection of 10 tracks with over 60 minutes of music from the game.

If you’re like me, you enjoy making your own game content. It’s not always complex though, sometimes it’s just level creating fun. Take a look at what Bigpoint is working on and sign up for a free account on Gameglobe.com

Basically Gameglobe sounds like a level creator with freedom to play other gamers content, as well as share your own. It looks really impressive for a game running in a browser and with good community support should be a fun time!

Hitman: Absolution Video: Dynamic Audio

Posted on October 29, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Just a quick news post to highlight a video sent to my inbox this morning by our contacts at Square Enix.  Called “Dynamic Audio,” this clip emphasizes the work that goes into creating the aural mood in a game like Hitman: Absolution.  I personally find that music in video games is one of the biggest influences on me and my enjoyment of the game.  Couple a touching scene with the right music and you’ve got something that truly pulls on my heart-strings and could even see a tear roll down my cheek.  Get a nice high-beats-per-minute track down in an action sequence and my grip on the controller tightens, my pupils dilate and my pulse quickens.  But enough from me – check out the video below!

Undercover drama Sleeping Dogs is 50% off on steam this weekend for $24.99! From the creators of the True Crime series this open world action game takes you to Hong Kong. For half price this looks like a fantastic deal. I’ve been eager to check out Wei Shen’s story and it looks like a great time to join in.

Hitman: Absolution | Introducing The Kill

Posted on October 4, 2012 by Jesse Lord

IO Interactive, developers of Hitman: Absolution, have released another “INTRODUCING” video, this time showing all of us the multifarious ways in which we can dispatch our targets.  True to the assassin’s code, killing is very easy, but the rub is getting away without being found or accused.  Some people might like going in guns-blazing and leaving no one left to ask questions or make accusations, but others might like making things look like an accident.  Perhaps others would take a complete stealth approach, getting alone with the target, relieving him or her of their life and disposing of the body so no one is the wiser.  But enough from me right now – here’s the video:

Tomb Raider | FINAL HOURS EPISODE 2: Origins of a Story

Posted on October 2, 2012 by Jesse Lord

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have released the second FINAL HOURS Episode, titled Origins of a Story, today.  This video series focuses on Tomb Raider and it gives a behind-the-curtain look at the different game development processes and procedures as they get closer and closer to retail release.  This episode specifically focuses on character design and creation.  It features never-before-seen footage from the game, it is hosted at San Diego Comic-Con’s Nerd HQ by none other than the nerd-cred-certified Zachary Levi.  It features lead writer Rhianna Pratchett, narrative designer John Stafford, and creative director Noah Hughes.  They all speak about the heavy pressures that come from taking an already-iconic and fan-favorite character like Lara Croft and giving her a new look, feel and story.  There’s much more to be found in the video, but I will leave you all to it.

The worst thing about this is the fact that I’m not already playing this game.  What say you, internets?

That’s right, the popular RPG franchise that involves both Disney and Final Fantasy characters, Kingdom Hearts, is receiving a new game. Included in the game will be: Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. 358/2 Days was exclusive on the Nintendo DS, so those of you without DSes or 3DSes are in luck.
