New Deus Ex in the Works?

Posted on February 27, 2013 by Jason Bassett

Dues Ex: Human Revolution released in 2011 with great fanfare. Not only was the game revered for it’s great stealth gameplay, but excellent narrative. Since then, people have been clamoring for something new for Adam Jensen and Deus Ex…do we have what we’re looking for?

Well if you head over to NeoGAF, you’ll find that Square Enix has just trademarked the name “Deus Ex: Human Defiance”. Currently, the thread at NeoGAF suggests a few things. One of which, it could be a direct sequel to Human Revolution. Defiance could also be an HD remake of the original name. Putting the first two letters of the sub-name together, you will get HD.

Of course this is all wild speculation at the moment. Stay tuned as we hear more on this game in the future.

New Tomb Raider Video Guides You To Survive Combat

Posted on February 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Man, I can’t rave enough about how awesome Tomb Raider looks. To think where she originated and to what it looks like now is truly amazing and inspiring.  A new video has been released by Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics that will teach you everything you need to know about “Combat Survival”.

[youtube id=”P9u4Roxo9jw” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Here is how Square Enix describes this video:

The first two episodes of Guide to Survival highlighted how an inexperienced Lara Croft must use her intellect and whatever she can scavenge to survive the harsh conditions of Yamatai. In this final episode we dig deep into Lara’s scrappy and raw approach to combat.

The elements aren’t the only thing after Lara on the island – predators come in both two and four-legged varieties. Lara’s unlocked skills and weapon upgrades culminate in her combat style, executed in both close-quarters and frenzied firefights.

Outnumbered and outgunned, stealth is frequently Lara’s strongest advantage. Approaching enemies undetected will allow her to pull off silent kills and keep fellow Solarii in the dark. The environment will also provide frequent opportunities for Lara to gain the upper hand. She must always be prepared to brawl up close, however, aided by dodge and counter moves and improved equipment. With wits and weapons combined, Lara is a smart and ultimately very dangerous fighter.

Tomb Raider will launch on March 5th, 2012…and I will reiterate like I always do: I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS!

Murdered: Soul Suspect Trailer Released

Posted on February 19, 2013 by Joshua Rust

“What is the hardest case to solve?” Well, Square Enix thinks they know the answer with their newly announced upcoming game Murdered: Soul Suspect. It was announced only a few weeks ago, but there has not been much information released on it yet – other than the tagline “What is the hardest case to solve?” and that it is a new Square Enix IP (a developer’s name hasn’t been attached to this project just yet). But today they released a teaser  trailer for you to enjoy!

[youtube id=”V3v3fM9BbQQ” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Of course with little to no details about Murdered: Soul Supsect we can only speculate. I’m hoping for something in the wake of the Sherlock Holmes games, which it could quite fall into that category. Any thoughts on who you think the developer might be? Crystal Dynamics? No release date has been announced, but stay tuned as more information becomes available!

Travel Back To Base Camp In This Tomb Raider Video

Posted on February 6, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It’s officially less than a month until the release of one the most anticipated games on my list: Tomb Raider. While I’m not overly thrilled with the inclusion of multiplayer to a single player franchise, I won’t completely off it until I’ve played it.

In this new video that was released today from Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics, Lara will show you how upgrading your stats and weapons will allow further exploration into the island. As well as detailing what Base Camp offers you in means of interacting with other characters and upgrading Lara herself.

Are you as excited as we are? Tomb Raider launches on March 5th for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

News regarding the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has been in limited supply. Heck even this trailer is just an extension of the one already released. But it’s better than nothing right? Right?

[youtube id=”OGv2CDo8qQo” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII currently doesn’t have a set date, but is expected to release this fall. If you could have any Final Fantasy game re-released in HD on PS3/Xbox 360 which would you choose and why?

Tomb Raider Multiplayer Video From Square Enix

Posted on January 8, 2013 by Joshua Rust

I won’t lie and say that I was happy when Square Enix announced that Tomb Raider would be receiving a multiplayer component to a single player franchise.  I’m an avid Tomb Raider fan and while I know why developers/publishers want to include multiplayer in single player games sometimes I believe it affects the outcome of the single player game. While Square Enix has assured the media that it won’t have any effect on the quality of the single player campaign, I guess we will play the waiting game to see if that is indeed the case. Let’s hope so. A prime example of this would be Dead Space…do you remember Dead Space 2’s multiplayer? Yeah, me neither.

Hopefully I’m wrong about this and Tomb Raider multiplayer turns out to be completely amazing (which I do hope for). There are some games that adding a multiplayer component has indeed expanded the lifetime of the game – look at Mass Effect 3, it has a ton of success from adding a multiplayer component. But the thing is, it’s cooperative…not competitive.

So here is the first look at Tomb Raider’s multiplayer (starts at about the 4:35 mark):

[youtube id=”aOPONlOqxFY” width=”600″ height=”350″]

So what do you all think about the addition of competitive multiplayer to Tomb Raider? For it or against it? Tomb Raider launches March 5th, 2013.

The world of Final Fantasy XIV came crashing down with their world ending event earlier this year. Square Enix is working on a new version of the game with a brand new engine, new mechanics and other enhancements. The publisher has announced plans to begin a multi-stage beta test of A Realm Reborn starting this February. Alongside the announcement of the beta testing plan they also released a short video from an alpha version of the game showcasing the new instanced dungeons.

Legacy players from the original FFXIV and holders of a special pass bundled with Final Fantasy XIV will gain access to all four stages of the beta. The beta steps are as follows:Read More

Square Enix Releases A “Guide To Survival” For Tomb Raider

Posted on December 17, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Today Square Enix has released part one of a new series that shows off some of the choices young Lara has to face throughout her journey in the upcoming Tomb Raider game.

Here is what Square Enix has to say about Lara:

“Though she doesn’t begin as a fully accomplished heroine she’s smart, resourceful and full of potential: you’ll see Lara using the Basecamp System to upgrade her skills and gear, see how she uses her Survival Instinct to explore on the island, and get an insight into her signature weapon, the bow.”

[youtube id=”dfz8S5Y_vZU” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Tomb Raider will release on March 5th, 2013. If you haven’t seen the Collector’s Edition for North America, I’d suggest checking this out. Hurry and pre-order it while supplies last! I know I’ve got mine pre-ordered!

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Agent 47 is back, and he’s returning to some of his oldest missions from way back in the PS2 & original Xbox era. With the announcement of the Hitman HD Collection fans of the series will can get their mitts on HD ports of   Hitman Contracts and Hitman 2 Silent Assassin. Also included in the collection is 2006’s Hitman Blood Money which was previously released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

The collection will be released on January 29th for PS3 and 360 with a suggested retail price of $39.99. There is also a “premium edition” which is exclusive to the first print run of the Xbox 360 version and includes a limited edition art book! It sounds like there is lots of killing to do.

Square Enix Announces Star Galaxy

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Square Enix officially announced Star Galaxy. A brand new social game that will work in-tune with your browser of choice. The entire page is mostly in Japanese and it’s was pretty hard to gauge at first read. The trailer that they provided didn’t help matters either with all the Japanese text. But, on the very bottom of the page, it says that the system of choice is Windows 7, Vista and 8. It also works with Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox.

If you head over to the Twitter page, you’ll notice a lot of comments being aimed directly at Star Ocean; and it’s not pretty. Many people seem to be pretty pissed and/or disappointed over the result.

You can view the site here.

Original Story

Are you ready for a new Square Enix game announcement? Well, if you’re not, then you better be. Because Square Enix is about to lift the curtains on a…spacey game. If you head over to the countdown page, you’ll be treated to a new huge picture of space with a bunch of words on the right side. Not to mention the big clock and a Twitter feed running down at the bottom of the clock.

But what will the game be? Given the premise of the space shot, I would bet a lot of money on the game being a new Star Ocean. While the Star Ocean: The Last Hope received average reviews, we question on why they have gone back to the game when only 720,000 people bought the game. Regardless, Square Enix seems to be heading in that direction. We will have details as the announcement happens later in the day. So watch this space!

UPDATE

We’ll be updating this page when the game is announced. So stay right here!

10:09PM  – Ahhh…yeah…we’re still waiting for the big announcement. Twitter is ripping Square to bits… uh oh!

Square Enix Teases “New Title” – Possible Star Ocean?

Posted on December 8, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Is a new Star Ocean title in the works from Square Enix? Well, it’s possible. A new teaser site has popped up over on the Square Enix site with words “Star”, “Border War”, and “Divide” on the page. There is a countdown clock that sets the reveal date for next Tuesday, December 11, at 10 p.m. EST.

Currently there has only been one Star Ocean game that has hit this generation of consoles that received mixed responses from the gaming community – weighing in at 72/100 over on Metacritic. Personally, I think it was a pretty solid game. Nothing that would win any game of the year awards but it was fun to play. This is all in speculation that the “New Title” is in fact a Star Ocean game.

Guess it’s a matter of wait and see…until then, we’ll be patiently waiting for that countdown clock to hit zero. Be sure to stay tuned here for more information as it becomes available! Anyone interested in another Star Ocean game or is Mass Effect the only true space rpg for you?

Square-Enix Creates And Pulls Hitman Absolution Facebook App

Posted on December 4, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

In just a single day, the P.R. department representing Hitman Absolution went from celebrating the creation of a brand-new Facebook App to promote the release of said game to initiating damage control because of it.

The idea of the app in question was it gave people a chance to send a virtual death threat (yes, that’s the intent of it, I kid you not) by providing a description set from a list of cruel attributes (i.e., muffin top, annoying laugh, small “breasts”, etc.) and a reason why Agent 47 should step forward and kill the person in question, along with a picture of the target.
