Disney Buys Lucas Film, Promises Star Wars VII

Posted on October 30, 2012 by Les Major

In news that will no doubt flow over into video games, and makes one wonder what in the world future Kingdom Hearts games will include now that Disney has both Marvel titles and Lucas Arts titles, Disney has purchased Lucas Film. News has it to the tune of $4.05 Billion.

This is very surprising news including that Disney plans to release Star Wars episode VII by 2015. I’m actually skeptical about all of this still since it seems very surreal.

News media is quoting George Lucas as saying, “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”

What do you think?

Closure of Broken Joysticks Forums

Posted on October 30, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Our forums will be riding off into the sunset tomorrow… Here’s the announcement:

Phase out of Community Forums
Effective November 1st the BrokenJoysticks community forums will no longer be active. We appreciate everyone who took the time to sign up and enjoy during this two month trial run. As a staff we learned quite a bit about what goes into fostering and maintaining a successful community. We feel that at this time the amount of moderation required to keep the forums clean of spam outweighs the benefit.

To those dedicated few who have stayed with us, don’t fret. We will be working on a solution to the problem with a better, upgraded message board to launch sometime in 2013. We want to make sure that the Broken Joysticks forums are easy to use, well maintained and not full of Chinese advertisements.

We will keep them archived and hopefully when it is time to roll out the new forums sometime next year as many accounts and messages will be archived there.
Thanks again!

Dragon’s Dogma | Review

Posted on October 30, 2012 by Jason Fayta

Editor’s note:  Storms are raging on the east coast of Canada and the United States right now. Here’s a review from our very own Jason Fayta as he looks back on this past spring’s Dragon’s Dogma. Our original content schedule should be back on track soon!

Version tested: PlayStation 3

Capcom, famed developer and publisher that has brought gamers such franchises as Resident Evil and Street Fighter, enters the action role-playing genre on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with Dragon’s Dogma, a successful foray into fantasy open-world role-playing games.

Taking inspiration from Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Capcom’s own offerings, Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma stands out by being derivative of several games and in turn becomes uniquely its own title and hopefully it’ll be the start of a new series.Read More
